LEAVE OF ABSENCE Bereavement Leave. 6.01 Should a death occur in a part time employee’s immediate family, (a part time employee who has completed his probationary period) shall receive time off from work with pay for an absence from scheduled work on the day before and the day of the funeral provided the employee attends the funeral with such pay equal to the hours scheduled for such an employee on the days in question.

This includes time for travel, attending the funeral and involvement in funeral arrangements and affairs. Notwithstanding the foregoing, in the case of the death of an employee's parent, spouse, partner, child, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparent or grandchild, the employee shall be granted leave of absence with pay of 5 working days.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE Bereavement Leave. (a) An employee who is absent from work solely due to the death of the father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, husband, wife, common law spouse, same-sex partner, stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother or stepsister of such employee, shall be entitled to compensation for time so lost by such employee from their regular schedule at their regular rate of pay for five (5) working days. Such leave may commence no earlier than the date of the death, and must be completed within the seven (7) consecutive calendar day period following the death, provided that if the funeral is not held within the seven (7) day period, the employee may reserve one (1) of the above five (5) bereavement days for the purpose of attending the funeral or interment, where either ceremony falls on a regularly scheduled working day. (b) An employee who is absent from work solely due to the death of the father-in law, mother-in- law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew of such employee, shall be entitled to compensation for time so lost by such employee from their regular schedule at their regular rate of pay for three (3) working days. Such leave may commence no earlier than the date of the death, and must be completed within the seven (7) consecutive calendar day period following the death, provided that if the funeral is not held within the seven (7) day period, the employee may reserve one (1) of the above three

Such leave may commence no earlier than the date of the death, and must be completed within the seven (7) consecutive calendar day period following the day of the funeral or memorial service held in lieu of a funeral. 15.01 (c) An employee may be granted leave of absence and compensated for scheduled hours missed by reason of such absence, at the discretion of the General Manager where such leave is requested solely due to the death and/or funeral of persons other than those specified in clauses 15.01(a) and (b).

LEAVE OF ABSENCE Bereavement Leave. Where an employee with the Corporation, is absent by reason of a summons to serve as a juror, or of a subpoena as a witness, may at option: take a leave of absence without pay and retain both the fee and the expense allowance paid by the Court; or charge the absence against vacation credits and retain both the fee and expense allowance paid by the Court; or treat the absence as a leave with pay (but with no charge against any of credits) but surrender the fee and expense allowance to the Commissioner of Finance and Administration and City Treasurer when received. Notwithstanding the above, an employee who is subpoenaed as a witness at a grievance arbitration arising the administration of this Collective Agreement shall receive normal base pay for the day of the hearing and shall not be required to attend at work on normal for that day. A Division Manager may grant leave of absence without pay in case of a personal emergency. Two members of the Union shall be given time off, pay, to attend funerals of City employees. In the case of death in the immediate of an employee, namely, spouse, child, mother, father, sister, brother, xxxxxxxxx, step-mother, step-father, grandchild or xxxx or guardian, an employee shall be permitted to be absent for (5) days with pay; in the case of death of mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandmother, grandfather, step-brother, step-sister, to an employee shall be to be absent (2) working days with pay, including the day of the funeral; for a relationship beyond that, such as uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, sister- in-law and brother-in-law, an employee shall be permitted to be absent from work (1) day with pay for the purpose of attending the the memorial service of such relative. In the event of a bereavement of one of the relatives named above, the Director may increase the paid leave for up to two days for an employee to attend a or memorial service beyond the Province of Ontario or in Ontario if additional travel time is deemed necessary and reasonable. "With shall mean the regular rate of pay or if acting, "with pay" will be the acting rate of pay if acting the day before and the day after the bereavement leave. The Corporation will provide pregnancy and parental leaves in accordance with The Employment Standards Act as amended time to time, Province of Ontario, except that the leave of absence upon request shall be extended for maternity leave for a period not exceeding six (6) months.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE Bereavement Leave. An Employee shall be granted reasonable leave of absence in the event of a death of a member of the Employee’s immediate family (i.e. spouse, child, parent, brother, sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, guardian or niece, nephew, aunt, uncle.) Spouse shall include common-law and/ or same sex relationship. Step-parent, step-children, step-brother and step-sister shall be considered as members of the Employee’s immediate family. For the first five (5) calendar days of such leave of absence, the Employee shall suffer no loss of regular earnings. Bereavement leave shall be extended by up to two (2) additional calendar days if travel in excess of three hundred and twenty (320) kilometers one way from the employee’s residence is necessary for the purpose of the funeral. In the event of a death of another relative or close friend, the Employer may grant up to one (1) day off with pay to attend the funeral services.
