Temporary Work Assignments. An employee who, at the request of the Company, is temporarily required to work in a classification other than his/her own shall be paid at the rate of one and one- half (l-1/2) times of either the employee’s rate of pay, or the rate of the classification to which he/she is assigned, whichever is higher, and at the rate of one and one-half (l-1/2) times any applicable shift differential for all time spent performing such work except in those situations which have been established by longstanding past practice, in emergencies, or when the assigned classification is not available for call-in An employee assigned under long-standing past practice, in emergencies, or when the assigned classification is not available for call-in, shall suffer no reduction in rate of pay. When assigned temporarily to do work in a classification having a higher labor grade, the employee shall be paid the maximum rate of the higher labor grade.

Temporary Work Assignments. If an employee is temporarily assigned to a job of higher rate for one (1) hour or more, either within or outside of his department, he shall receive the higher rate for the actual hours worked in the higher rated job. If temporary assignments cover a full day before and a full day after a holiday, any pay for the holiday not worked shall be based upon the straight-time hourly rate for time worked on the scheduled day preceding the holiday.
Temporary Work Assignments. In cases where an employee is anticipated to be absent for an extended period of time, the Company and the Union will meet to discuss options that will cause the least disruption in service to the customer and the least adverse affect on the rights of the employees. The Company recognizes the Union’s right to file a grievance at Step 2 over any dispute that may arise under the letter.

During any such training, errors by the employee which are within the normal tolerances of the training situation will not be the subject of discipline. Temporary Work Assignments. When a staff member’s position has been temporarily eliminated or substantially reduced during slow periods, they may be assigned to other tasks without an increase or decrease in regular pay until the end of the slow period. Nothing in this section is intended to limit the University’s right to assign staff members to different campus locations in order to meet staffing needs.
