LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSIONAL IMPROVEMENT. 6.7.1 Any employee who has completed five (5) or more years of continuous teaching service in the Mentor Schools may be granted, with the permission of the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, a leave of absence for professional improvement for either one (1) or two (2) semesters. 6.7.2 The teacher shall present to the Superintendent for approval a plan for professional growth prior to such a grant of permission, and at the conclusion of the leave provide evidence that the plan was followed. The teacher shall return to the district for at least two (2) years following the leave for professional improvement. 6.7.3 No such leave shall be granted unless a satisfactory substitute is available, nor shall such leave be granted to more than five percent (5%) of the professional staff at any one time. No such leave shall be granted to a teacher more often than once for each five (5) years of service, nor shall such leave be granted a second time to the same teacher when other members of the staff have filed a request for such leave. 6.7.4 Each certificated employee who meets the requirements and is granted a sabbatical leave may elect to have the year count as a year of service by having his/her share of retirement payments deducted from the leave pay. The salary base for these payments will be the same salary that the person would have received during the year for which the sabbatical leave was granted. 6.7.5 The employee must make the necessary application to the State Teachers Retirement System for approval of retirement fund payments during the leave of absence. The Board will furnish the necessary information to accompany the application. 6.7.6 The Board of Education will remunerate the teacher on leave of absence for professional improvement the difference, if any, between the replacement teacher's salary and the salary of the teacher on leave. After Board approval, individual teachers shall have the right to waive this provision. 6.7.7 Failure on the employee's part to return for two (2) years following this leave shall entitle the Board to take action to recover remuneration paid him/her while on leave. 6.7.8 Upon return from leave of absence for professional improvement, the teacher's placement on the salary schedule will be commensurate with his/her years of teaching service and verified level of training. 6.7.9 A teacher may be granted a leave of absence for professional improvement after three (3) years of service in the Me...

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSIONAL IMPROVEMENT. A public school teacher who has completed five years of service may, with the permission of the Board of Education and the Superintendent of schools, be entitled to take a leave of absence with part pay, for one or two semesters subject to the following restrictions: The teacher shall present to the Superintendent for approval, a plan for professional growth and/or work experience prior to such a grant of permission, and at the conclusion of the leave provide evidence that the plan was followed. The teacher may be required to return to the district at the end of the leave for a period of at least one year, unless the teacher has completed twenty-five years of teaching in this state. The Board of Education may not grant such a leave unless there is available a satisfactory substitute, nor grant such leave to more than five percent of the professional staff at any one time, nor allow a part salary in excess of the difference between the substitute’s pay and the teacher’s expected salary, nor grant a leave longer than one school year, nor grant a leave to any teacher more often than once for each five years of service, nor grant a leave a second time to the same individual when other members of the staff have filed a request for such a leave.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR PROFESSIONAL IMPROVEMENT. An administrator may be granted a leave of absence, without pay, for a period not to exceed one (1) year for the purpose of: Graduate study (a minimum of ten [10] semester hours each semester or its equivalent), independent research in education or an educationally related field under the supervision of the Superintendent or an accredited college or university, or educational travel (itinerary must accompany application). If substantial changes in the planned program of the leave as outlined in the approved application are to be made, the administrator shall immediately request approval from the Superintendent. Upon the administrator's immediate return to the School District, the administrator shall be granted credit for up to one (1) year on the then-existing salary schedule. In addition, one (1) administrator every other school year may be allowed a sabbatical leave for approved educational work toward a specialist or doctorate degree at 50% annual pay. Approval for the leave shall be subject to the established District procedures. The administrator must work in the District for a minimum of three {3) years following the sabbatical. Not later than 60 days after the administrator returns to the District, the administrator shall file a written report with the Superintendent. The report shall include the name of institutions attended, course pursued, credits received, experience gained, and the itinerary of travel, together with the administrator's appraisal of the professional value of the activities while on leave. An administrator will not be considered as having completed the requirements of the leave until the final report has been approved by the Superintendent.

No member may be granted a leave a second time when other members of the bargaining unit have filed a request to be granted such leave. J. Upon return from sabbatical, a member shall be returned to the same or similar assignment held prior to such leave. Supplemental contracts or extended service do not apply. K. Bargaining unit members on sabbatical leave shall retain all previous seniority.

  • Educational Leave of Absence Leaves of absence may be granted up to six (6) months under the above provisions only if the course would be beneficial to both the University and the employee.

  • LEAVE OF ABSENCE 12.01 Employees requesting leave of absence shall make written application to their Location Manager giving at least seven (7) working days· notice. The Company may, at its discretion, grant such leave of absence for a period of up to three (3) months provided the services of the employees are not immediately required and there is an employee available who has the qualifications to perform the work. Such leave of absence shall be granted in writing, with a copy to the Local Chairperson. Leaves of absence will not be granted during the month of September. The Company's response to the request shall be given in writing within seven (7) days of the· Company receiving the employee's written request. 12.02 Leave of absence may be extended in writing by the Company upon application in writing from the employee, provided such application is received at least seven (7) calendar days prior to the expiration of the leave of absence. 12.03 An employee who fails to report for duty on or before the expiration of a leave of absence shall forfeit his seniority and his name will be removed from the seniority list. In the case of an employee being granted an extended approved unpaid leave 6f absence, the employee may not be permitted to sign for a regular school run and/or the run vacated by the employee may be posted. 12.04 Absolute proof of illness preventing return upon expiration of leave of absence shall excuse an employee's failure to return at that time. 12.05 Leave of absence shall not be granted to enable an employee to work outside the Company's service. Leave of absences or illness longer than five (5) working days will be posted as a temporary position. 12.06 An employee elected as a full-time representative of the Union shall be granted leave of absence without pay while so engaged. 12.07 Upon written request of the National Representative, Local President and/or Local Chairperson, employees delegated and attending general business of the Union shall be granted leave of absence without pay for that purpose. As much advance notice as possible will be given by the National Representative and/or Local Chairperson prior to the effective date of the requested leave of absence. The Company will pay lost time for regular scheduled work for all union leaves under this article to employees at their regular rate of pay and such rate of pay will be reimbursed by Unifor Local 195. 12.08 The name of an employee who is on authorized leave of absence shall be retained on the seniority list and shall continue to accumulate seniority. School bus drivers on an approved leave shall be returned to their scheduled work on the scheduled return date. 12.09 An employee wishing to return from leave of absence prior to the expiration of his approved period of leave must advise his Supervisor at least seven (7) days in advance of the date upon which he wishes to return to work. The Supervisor will, if such leave is due to illness, make every effort to change the work schedule to accommodate the returning employee, but if this is not possible, the employee shall return at the earliest possible date following the receipt of such notification by the Supervisor. If the leave were for other reasons, the employee will resume his duties at a time specified by the Company.

  • Medical Leave of Absence Where you have a medical leave of absence due to any medically determinable physical or mental impairment that can be expected to result in death or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than six months, and you have not returned to employment with the Company or an Affiliate, a Separation from Service has occurred on the earlier of: (A) the first day on which you would not be considered “disabled” under any disability policy of the Company or Affiliate under which you are then receiving a benefit; or (B) the first day on which your medical leave of absence period exceeds 29 months.

  • Extended Leave of Absence Professional employees who have attained renewable contract status may request extended leaves of absence for one (1) year without pay under any one of the circumstances listed in this section. All requests for such extended leave of absence will be applied for and granted or rejected in writing. Such application will be reviewed by the principal and superintendent. If the latter approves, he/she will recommend that the leave be granted by the Board. An employee returning from an extended leave will be assigned to the same position as that which he/she held before assuming the leave, providing that position still exists.   • General Leave of Absence a) Leave of absence without pay may be granted to employees for valid reasons as set out by Company policy. b) An employee on general leave of absence shall not accumulate sick leave credits, or earn vacation but shall retain the seniority, sick leave credits, and vacation credits earned prior to commencing leave of absence. c) Employees do not have the option of continuing their benefit coverage during the leave. d) Employees on leave of absence shall be required to apply for any extension.

  • Personal Leave of Absence The Administrator may grant a request for leave of absence for personal reasons without pay provided that he receives at least one (1) month's clear notice, in writing, unless impossible, and provided that such leave may be arranged without undue inconvenience to the normal operations of the Nursing Home. Employees when applying for such leave shall indicate the proposed date of departure and return. Such leave shall not be unreasonably withheld.

  • Leave of Absence for Union Business 17.1 The Board acknowledges the right of the Union to appoint or select a Negotiation Committee of not more than seven (7) employees and will recognize and deal with this Committee with respect to contract negotiations. The Union agrees to provide the names of all Committee members to the Board in writing. 17.2 The Union may have the service of a CUPE Staff Representative, counsel or adviser at any meeting with representatives of the Board during negotiations pertaining to renewal or amendment of the Collective Agreement. 17.3 Members of the Union negotiating committee shall be paid at their regular straight time rate of pay for their regularly scheduled work time spent with officials of the Board for purposes of amending or renewing the Agreement up to and including, but not beyond the stage of conciliation, provided, however, that such committee members shall not be compensated for time spent prior to or beyond their regular working hours. 17.4 Upon request, members of the Union's Negotiating Committee shall be permitted leave of absence to prepare for the commencement of formal contract negotiations with the Board. The total number of days of leave under this Article shall not exceed 28 days during the lifetime of the Agreement and no member shall be absent for more than 4 days for this purpose. The Union shall give the Board a minimum of 5 days advance notice of any such request. An employee on such leave shall continue to receive pay and benefits provided in this Agreement. The Union shall reimburse the Board for all pay and benefits for the period of absence. 17.5 Leave of absence without pay and without loss of sick leave credits or seniority shall be granted upon request to the Board to employees elected or appointed to represent the Union at recognized Union conventions or 17.6 An employee selected for up to and including a full-time position with the local shall be granted leave of absence without loss of seniority or benefits for a period of up to two years. Such leave shall be renewed each year, on request, during the term of office. An employee on such leave shall receive the pay and benefits provided in this Agreement. The Union shall reimburse the Board for all pay and benefits for the period of absence. Upon completion of the President’s leave, the employee will be returned to his/her position if it still exists, or to a comparable position, if it does not. 17.7 Any employee who is elected or selected for a full-time position with the Union, or any body with which the Union is affiliated, upon application will be granted leave of absence without salary, benefits, and loss of seniority, by the Board for a period of up to one year. Such leave shall be extended annually, upon request, up to a maximum of five years.

  • Union Leave of Absence An employee on an unpaid Union leave of absence shall have her wages, benefits and seniority continued by the Employer, and the Union agrees to reimburse the Employer for the costs of such wages and benefits. Employees requesting leave under this article will provide the Employer with as much advance notice as possible of the dates of the leave. Where there are less than fifteen (15) regular employees at a workstation at the time the leave request is submitted, and subject to operational requirements, unpaid Union leave of absence will be granted to one employee for the purpose of conducting Union business. D) selected by the Union or its members as a delegate to attend the Provincial Bargaining Conference. E) selected by the Union or its members as a delegate to attend regional Bargaining Conference.

  • Parental Leave of Absence A. Female unit members may use any or all accumulated leave during pre and post-natal care for that period of time she is temporarily disabled, as determined by the unit member and her physician. B. Unit members desiring to use any or all accumulated leave during a period of pregnancy or post-natal care should state this in writing to the Office of Human Resources and Employee Relations using the FMLA paperwork. C. Unit members who use any or all accumulated leave as a temporary disability during pre- and post- natal care must return to active service as soon as her physical health permits according to her physician; unless she requests a leave of absence without pay or she resigns. D. Any non-probationary female unit member who does not wish to use any or all accumulated [sick] leave during pre- and/or post-natal care shall be granted a leave of absence without pay provided that a reasonable notice in writing to the Office of Human Resources and Employee Relations is made in advance. E. Unit members using a leave of absence without pay for pre-natal care, adoption, post-natal care and/or child rearing (not to exceed a period of one (1) year in duration and taken within the first year after birth or adoption) shall have the opportunity to continue benefit programs provided to unit members. Unit members with at least one (1) year of experience with the Xxxxxxx County Board of Education will be required after the first twelve (12) weeks to assume the Board’s share of the premium in addition to any premiums he/she theretofore paid for dependent coverage. Provided that a written, advanced request is made to the Office of Human Resources and Employee Relations the employee on such leave will be offered employment upon expiration of the leave in the first available position in their classification for which they are qualified. The request should be made at least thirty (30) days prior to the return and should include the anticipated date of return. If the return is within ninety (90) duty days and such return is stipulated at the beginning of the leave, the same position shall be offered. F. Adoptive parents may use up to twelve (12) weeks in compliance with Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) of any or all accumulated leave for the purpose of adoption and/or bonding. G. If using combined sick leave and leave without pay teachers who have at least one (1) year experience with the Xxxxxxx County Board of Education will have premiums paid for a total of twelve (12) weeks per year in accordance with the terms of the FMLA, and have their position held prior to such leave.

  • Leave of Absence for Union Functions It is agreed that official representatives of the Union be granted leave of absence, without pay, to attend Union Conventions or perform any other function on behalf of the Union and its affiliations, provided not more than ten (10) Union representatives shall be away at any one time. Such leave of absence shall not affect the employee's seniority and/or benefits contained in this Agreement.
