Other Unpaid Leaves of Absence. A. In addition to other unpaid leaves of absence in Article VIII - Leaves of Absence, an unpaid leave of absence may be granted to an Instructional Employee for other reasons satisfactorily justified to the Board. B. Such unpaid leaves of absence not otherwise set forth in this Agreement shall be defined as a period of time up to one year that an Instructional Employee is granted away from the District. All leaves are subject to the approval of the Superintendent or his/her designee and the Board of Education. C. To be eligible for a long-term unpaid leave of absence not otherwise set forth in this Agreement, an Instructional Employee must have completed two (2) full years in the District. The Instructional Employee must request the leave (form located in Addendum F) at least thirty (30) days prior to the date on which the leave is to begin. D. A leave of absence shall be without pay and the Instructional Employee returning from leave of absence shall not be entitled to advancement on the salary schedule for the period of absence unless provisions contained in Article 6.04 A,B,C. are met, nor shall any sick leave accrue during that time. E. Notification of intention to resume active status shall be given in writing to the Superintendent or his/her designee no later than April 1 of the calendar year if the intent is to return at the beginning of the student year, or no later than December 1 if the intent is to return at the beginning of the second semester. F. The return date to active service shall be a date mutually agreed to in writing by the Instructional Employee and the Superintendent or his/her designee. G. The Instructional Employee on leave may exercise the option of maintaining group insurance coverages, at the Instructional Employee's expense, during such leaves and if allowable by the insurers under the provisions of Article VII - Insurance. H. Upon return from leave, the Instructional Employee may purchase STRS credit under the time restrictions and other rules and regulations of STRS. I. If the Instructional Employee returns to active service on the first day of the school calendar or the first day of the second semester, the returning Instructional Employee shall be assigned to the Instructional Employee position he/she held prior to commencement of the leave. Other Unpaid Leaves of Absence. With respect to Alberta legislated job protected leaves, the Employer will adhere to the minimum provisions of Alberta Employment Standards as may be amended from time to time.
Other Unpaid Leaves of Absence. Leaves of absence for reasons other than those listed in this Agreement may be granted for no more than one (1) year in duration to tenured unit members, at the discretion of the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent.

Other Unpaid Leaves of Absence. In the sole and exclusive discretion of the Board, a tenured teacher, upon application, may be granted an unpaid leave of absence of up to one (1) year for the following reasons: to participate full-time in an exchange teaching program in other school districts, states, territories, or countries or foreign or military teaching programs; to participate in the Peace Corps, Teacher Corps, or Job Corps; to serve as a consultant or director of a teacher center; to engage in study at an accredited college or university; or for an extended disability after ninety (90) consecutive school days of absence, or 90 out of 120 intermittent days of absence. Requests for such discretionary unpaid leaves shall be made in accordance with Section 5.0 of this Article and shall be subject to all of the terms and conditions set forth in Section 5.0
Other Unpaid Leaves of Absence. An Employee may be granted other unpaid leaves of absence in accordance with relevant legislation. Requests for such leave(s) must be make in writing to the Chief Human Resources Officer or designate.

If the member has been employed in the Miamisburg City School District less than five (5) years, unpaid leaves will be limited to the remainder of the current semester plus one (1) additional semester of school. The requested time of the leave will correspond to the starting and ending dates of grading periods. d. A member shall not accrue leave while on unpaid leave. e. A member may continue to participate in group insurance by paying the total monthly premiums to the Treasurer while on unpaid leave unless such time is subject to FMLA. f. A member shall not accrue service time placement purpose while on unpaid leave, but shall be given seniority credit for the period of unpaid leave. g. The Superintendent may require a member returning to active employment status after personal illness or disability to provide a doctor's statement that the member be able to perform regular duties. h. The Board is not obligated to return a member to active employment unless the member on an unpaid leave has given timely notice of return. Such notice should correspond to the expected semester of return. Notice dates of prior to December 1 for second semester and May 1 for the beginning of the next school year. i. If a member uses an unpaid leave of absence for purposes other than those for which the leave was granted, the Board may revoke the leave (effective immediately and impose appropriate discipline). j. A member returning from unpaid leave will be assigned to a position for which she/he is certificated/licensed.
