Short Term Leaves of Absence. 13.1 Definition of Immediate Family
a. The unit member’s current spouse, domestic partner (as confidentially certified following approved District procedures), and any relative or person currently living in the unit member's immediate household; and
b. The unit member's and his/her current spouse's or domestic partner’s mother, stepmother, father, stepfather, grandparent, child, guardian, xxxx, grandchild, stepchild, brother, brother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in- law, stepbrother, and stepsister. The above definition shall apply wherever reference is made to immediate family in this Agreement except as defined in 13.4.4.
Short Term Leaves of Absence. Any request for a short-term unpaid leave of absence shall be submitted to the Superintendent or designee for a decision. That decision will be final, not grievable and will in no way establish a precedent with regard to future requests.
Short Term Leaves of Absence. A short-term leave of absence for paraprofessionals, aides and food service may be granted by the Superintendent. The employee shall apply to the Superintendent for said leave thirty days (30) in advance. The following policy will apply to unpaid leave requests for vacation purposes:
1) The employee must have been performing his/her job satisfactorily.
2) The request must be a rare occurrence. This is something that could not be done during normal vacation periods and not more frequently than once every three (3) years.
3) The maximum number of days approved in any one year is:
1 year of experience 1 day 2 years of experience 2 days 3 years of experience 3 days 4 years of experience 4 days 5 or more years of experience 5 days
4) The employee must have approval from the department head/building administrator prior to the request going to the Superintendent.
5) The request must be made thirty (30) days in advance.
Short Term Leaves of Absence. 1. Each teacher shall be allowed each school year ten (10) days leave without loss of pay for personal illness, injury, quarantine, or temporary disability caused by pregnancy.
2. The statement “personal illness” shall be deemed sufficient reason for any personal illness which does not extend beyond three (3) days.
3. A doctor’s certificate shall be required for absences which extend four (4) days or longer.
4. All unused days of leave allowance for personal illness shall accumulate from year to year without limit. (This section became effective September 1, 1969.)
5. If sick leave use has been frequent, or if there is a suspicion of misuse of sick leave, the administration may require the submission of a physician’s statement certifying illness or other evidence substantiating the need for such leave.
Short Term Leaves of Absence. A. All office employees and paraprofessionals regularly employed for either the school year or the calendar year, who are absent from duty because of personal illness, shall be allowed annual sick leave at full pay at the rate of one (1) day for each month of active service, cumulative to a total of 352 days.

Short Term Leaves of Absence. A. Reasons: Short Term Leaves of Absence may be granted to regular full and part-time bargaining unit employees who have completed one year of service for the following:
Short Term Leaves of Absence. Unpaid days are not automatically approved by the district. A request for an unpaid day, with an explanation of why the leave is needed, must be submitted to the building principal or immediate supervisor, and then pre- approved by the Director of Human Resources. Except in unusual circumstances, at least 30 calendar days prior notice is required for such a request. An unpaid day may not be used to extend a holiday or vacation, and cannot be used to work or train for another job outside the district. Employees are restricted to no more than two (2) unpaid leave days per year. Staff may be permitted up to five (5) days of unpaid leave if approved in advance by the Superintendent.
Short Term Leaves of Absence a. The Hospital may, at its discretion, grant short-term leaves of absence without pay and without loss of seniority or benefit credit to an employee for personal reasons. All requests for such leaves of absence and permission shall be in writing.
b. Unless the Manager or their designate has a clear indication of the employee’s expected return date while on leave of absence, an employee must call her Manager or designate by 1200 hours each day to indicate if they will be returning to work. Such notification must be made during the normal working hours of her Manager or their designate.
Short Term Leaves of Absence. A short term leave of absence may be granted by the Superintendent for said leave at least one (1) week in advance, when possible. The following policy will apply to unpaid leave request for vacation purposes:
Short Term Leaves of Absence. Bereavement Leave
17.01 A Long Term Occasional Teacher shall be granted bereavement leave in accordance with the following:
(a) For absence occasioned by the death of a spouse, son, daughter, mother, father, sister or brother of the Occasional Teacher or the Occasional Teacher’s spouse, leave shall be granted without loss of salary or deduction from the Sick Leave Credit Account for a period not exceeding four (4) working days. The absence on the day of death is not included in the calculation of the leave.
(b) For absence occasioned by the death of other relatives of the Occasional Teacher or the Occasional Teacher’s spouse, leave shall be granted without loss of salary or deduction from the Sick Leave Credit Account for a period not exceeding three (3) working days. The absence on the day of death is not included in the calculation of the leave.
(c) For absence occasioned by the death of a close friend, leave shall be granted without loss of salary or deduction from the Sick Leave Credit Account for a period not exceeding one (1) day for the purpose of attending the funeral.
(d) The Manager of Employee Relations may grant one (1) additional day. Note: It is understood bereavement leave shall begin within seven (7) calendar days following the date of death or later if under extenuating circumstances. Attendance at Court or Tribunal
17.02 A Long Term Occasional Teacher shall be granted a leave of absence from duty by reason of a summons to serve as a juror, or a subpoena as a witness in any proceedings to which he or she is not a party or one of the persons charged and shall be paid the applicable earnings under Article 8. It is understood that such payment by the Board shall only be made for the period of time the Occasional Teacher would have been otherwise employed on the occasional teaching assignment.
