Sick-day Credits Sample Clauses
Sick-day Credits. (Full-Time Only) Sick leave means the period of time an employee is permitted to be absent from work without loss of regular earnings by virtue of being sick or disabled. Sick leave does not include accidents for which compensation is payable under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.
(a) Following the successful completion of probationary period employees will be credited with three (3) days of sick leave and shall then accumulate sick leave credits at the rate of one day per month for a total of twelve (12) days per year. Sick leave may be accrued over the years to a maximum of one hundred and twenty (120) working days available. Sick leave accumulation information will be made available to any employee upon request.
(b) Full-time employees who terminate employment or retire after completing five (5) years or more of continuous employment or transfer to part-time status will receive the equivalent of fifty percent (50%) of their unused but accumulated sick leave credits. Sick pay credit for the ninety-first (91st) to one hundred and twentieth (120th) day of accumulated sick leave will be paid at seventy-five percent (75%) on termination of employment. This allowance will not be paid to those employees who are terminated by the Employer for cause, or where a terminating employee has not given at least two (2) weeks’ notice in writing.
(c) No sick day credits will be accumulated during any unpaid leave of absence from work, including pregnancy leave.
Sick-day Credits. An employee shall be entitled to seven (7) paid sick days per reference year, starting on January 1 of each year. At the employee’s option, he/she may, by giving notice to the company by the 1st of November each year that he/she chooses to accumulate the sick time or reduce the remaining credits to a maximum of fourteen (14) days from the sick bank in any given year. If the employee chooses to cash out the sick time, he/she shall be paid at the rate of fifty per cent (50%) according to the regular schedule as of December 31. The sick day credits may be accumulated to a maximum of twenty-one days.
Sick-day Credits. In addition to the wage coverage up to short- and long-term disability, "Incidental Sick Leave". All employees on the payroll as at January 1st of each year will be given credit for twelve (12) days for that year. New employees starting during the year shall receive a pro-rated portion calculated at one (1) day per month to a maximum to twelve (12) days. New employees shall not be covered during their probation period, but upon completion of their probationary period they will be reimbursed for any lost wages due to illness, up to that years’ maximum entitlement. The Employer will pay a bonus to each employee after year-end, depending on the amount of sick days banked:
i) If a staff member accumulates between 20 – 29 sick days at year-end; the Employer will pay a bonus of 1 day’s pay.
ii) If a staff member accumulates between 30 – 39 sick days at year-end; the Employer will pay a bonus of 1½ days’ pay.
iii) If a staff member accumulates between 40 – 49 sick days at year-end the employer will pay a bonus of 2 days’ pay.
iv) If a staff member accumulates between 50 – 59 sick days at year end; the Employer will pay a bonus of 2 ½ days’ pay.
v) If a staff member accumulates between 60 – 69 sick days at year end; the Employer will pay a bonus of 3 days’ pay. The sick day bonus will only be paid out if an employee accumulates enough sick day credits by the end of the year; to enter into the next tier. If an employee uses any of their banked sick days, they will only be paid a sick day bonus the next time they accumulate enough sick day credits to enter into the next tier. Any banked sick day credits over 75 days, the Employer, will pay a bonus of 50% of further unused sick days which will be paid to the employee or deposited into their RRSP after year end. For employees with fifteen (15) or more years of service after July 1st, 1991, upon voluntary separation or having reached the age of mandatory retirement of sixty-five (65), they shall receive a (50%) payout of their accumulated sick leave to a maximum of fifty (50) days. (Reference to voluntary separation is meant to deal with termination for cause and voluntary separation will provide coverage for lay-off, redundancy or non-culpable termination.) Part-time Employees on benefits will be given credit of twelve (12) shifts sick leave per year. Pay will be based on hours lost.
Sick-day Credits. 15.03.01 Every employee (active or inactive) shall be entitled to seven (7) paid sick days per reference year, starting on January 1 of each year. This entitlement shall be considered as the employee’s current bank of sick credits.
15.03.02 The sick day credits may be accumulated to a maximum of twenty-one (21) days.
15.03.02.1 On January 15th of each year, the Company shall advise electronically, all employees on the Company provided form, as to the amount of remaining sick day credits employees have from the previous calendar year.
15.03.02.2 For the purpose of allowing an employee to reduce his remaining sick day credits to a balance of fourteen (14) days, the following will apply: Prior to January 31st of each year, employees shall return to the Company a copy of the form provided in Article 15.03.02.1, on which they have indicated their choice of one of the four (4) applicable options regarding the disposition of their remaining sick day credits:
1. Amount of sick day credits to be paid at 50%.
2. Amount of sick day credits to be transferred to the next year.
3. Amount of sick day credits to be transferred at 50% to the RRSP.
4. Amount of sick day credits to be transferred at 50% to the F.T.Q. (Quebec only).
15.03.02.3 Should an employee fail to return the form (referenced in Article 15.03.02.1) to the Company by the due date indicated on the form; the Company shall automatically pay out the remaining sick day credits of the previous year in accordance with Article 15.03.02.2, option 1.
15.03.02.4 For employees that are inactive on December 31st (these are employees on any prolonged absence, as defined in Articles 15.05.01 and 15.05.03), option 2 of Article 15.03.02.2 shall automatically apply.
