Unpaid Education Leave. Nurses may request unpaid leaves of absence to attend professional activities such as, but not necessarily limited to, educational workshops, seminars, continuing education courses. Such requests will be given equitable consideration and may be granted at the sole discretion of management.
Unpaid Education Leave. After one year of continuous employment, permission may be granted for leave of absence without pay for job related study without loss of accrued benefits, provided such leave does not jeopardize District service.

When approving educational leave for studies related to an employee’s current or potential position, Senior management will consider the mangers recommendation, and factors such as the employee’s workload, schedule, performance, seniority and replacement costs. Upon completion of the leave, every effort will be made to return the employee to the same position and salary as when they left. During the education leave, employer paid benefits will not continue in accordance with article 25.01 (c). Incentive pay will be prorated to exclude the leave.

An unpaid education leave may be granted to the teacher by the Board when such time is necessary for acquiring an academic degree, completing an internship/residency, or a related activity that can only be completed when the teacher is not working full-time for the school district. An unpaid leave shall be considered under the following conditions:
A. Any teacher with seven (7) years of service to the School District shall be eligible for an unpaid leave of absence. Application for this unpaid leave must be submitted to the building principal no later than February 15th of the current school term. The application must explain how the leave will enhance or benefit the teacher’s education and how the leave will benefit the school district.
B. While on leave, a teacher shall be able to purchase the medical insurance provided to all teachers by the Board. These payments must be received by the Board the first of each month.
C. When returning to his/her position, a teacher will be placed on the salary schedule according to the years of teaching experience and educational credits earned. Unpaid leaves of absence of ninety (90) consecutive employment days or more shall not be counted in determining seniority.
Unpaid Education Leave. An employee may request an unpaid leave of up to two years' absence to take educational courses subject to the following provisions:
(a) The employee shall give the longest possible advance notice in writing. Where an employee requests an unpaid leave of absence in excess of four calendar months, such employee shall make every effort to give two calendar months' advance notice in writing.
(b) Every effort shall be made by the Employer to comply with such requests, providing that replacements to ensure proper operation of the department can be found.
(c) Notices granting such requests shall be given by the Employer in writing.

Unpaid Education Leave. An employee with one (1) or more years seniority wishing to further their education by full time attendance at a recognized college, university, trade or technical school, shall be granted a leave of absence for up to one (1) year under the following conditions:
(a) Before receiving the leave, or an extension, the employee shall provide the Company with satisfactory evidence they have been accepted as a student by the recognized college, university or school.
(b) On expiry of each term or semester the employee shall provide the Company with proof of attendance.
(c) Leave may be extended for additional periods not to exceed one (1) each year, yet no more than four (4) years in total.
(d) Provided the student’s course of instruction is related to their employment opportunities with the Company, seniority shall accumulate during the leave. Attendance at high school shall be regarded as meeting this provision. Health care benefits will continue for a period of one (1) year under this paragraph. If continued beyond one (1) year the employee may elect to pay for benefits as provided in the plan.
