Unpaid Union Leave of Absence. Upon request of the Union, submitted at least sixty (60) days in advance, a bargaining unit member may be granted a leave of absence without pay to perform full-time official duties on behalf of the Union. Such leave of absence shall be for a period of up to one year and may be extended for one or more additional periods of one year or less at the request of the Union. Advance approval of the supervisor is required for all such leaves of absence or extensions thereof. Such requests shall not be unreasonably denied.

Requests for unpaid leaves of absence (as provided by Section 3B above) for the purpose of attending Union conventions must be made at least twenty-one
Unpaid Union Leave of Absence. Employees with at least twelve (12) months of continuous service, who are elected or appointed to a position with the International Union or local Union, shall be granted a leave of absence for up to one (1) year for the purpose of accepting such position. Such leave of absence shall be extended for up to an additional one (1) year upon a written request by the International Union or Local Union. Seniority shall not accrue beyond the first 30 days of such leave and/or extension. An employee returning to work during or at the end of such leave of absence shall be returned to the same position the employee had prior to going on such leave, provided such position is still available. If the position is not available, the employee shall be placed in another available position for which the employee is qualified. Should no other position be available, the employee shall be subject to termination. The employee shall be required to meet current qualifications for any position that they may assume. These qualifications shall include required licensure, certification or registration. If these qualifications are different than when the employee went on leave, the employee shall be given reasonable time to acquire proper qualifications.
