Utility PersonAn employee classified and working as a Utility Person prior to May may refuse his right of progression to the next highest classification. The opportunity to progress shall then pass to the employee next in line. The employee who refuses to progress may continue to work in his designated classification and will be placed at the bottom of the classified seniority list. When the next opportunity arises, he will not be approached to move up the line of progression.
Utility Person. (Coquitlam Only) Utility persons can be used on production type work but are restricted to steam cleaning, mask and paint, oven loading and unloading, and Journeyman assistance. A person hired into the classification of Utility Person may be placed on an accelerated time schedule, including Skill Base 1, dependent on management's assessment of the person's previous experience in an industrial environment. An employee originally hired into the entry level of 0-3 months and who has progressed to the 1 year level, may be advanced to Skill Base 1 provided he has a forklift certificate and has demonstrated skills that are significantly above those of an average Utility Person. To progress to Skill Base II, an employee must be in Skill Base I for a minimum of two (2) years. On the anniversary of the third year an employee will automatically progress to Skill Base II, unless the company can provide documentation as to why the employee should not progress to Skill Base II.
Utility PersonThe position of Utility Person shall be a posted position and shall be attained on the basis of seniority. The Utility Person shall receive the maximum rate for the department plus a premium of $0.50. The Utility Person will be part of the bargaining unit and shall perform the work of the entire group within the department, assist in training of departmental employees, provide familiarization and safety, provide relief on their departmental line and assist in general line production activities as required.

Utility Person. As business conditions vary the number of units listed above may be enlarged or decreased from time to time.
