Written Examinations. A. Eligible, qualified applicants shall take a written examination, which shall be graded.
B. The written exam content shall be weighted as determined by the job task analysis and shall include questions from the following skill dimensions, as applicable to the position being tested.
Written Examinations. (a) The appointing authority may not condition eligibility to take the written examination on the candidate's score on any of the previous components of the examination. The written examination for a particular rank shall consist of matters relating to the duties regularly performed by persons holding that rank within the department. The examination shall be based only on the contents of written materials that the appointing authority has identified and made readily available to potential examinees at least 90 days before the examination is administered. The test questions and material must be pertinent to the particular rank for which the examination is being given. The written examination shall be administered after the determination and posting of the seniority list, and subjective evaluation scores. The written examination shall be administered, the test materials opened, and the results scored and tabulated.
(b) Written examinations shall be graded at the examination site on the day of the examination immediately upon completion of the test in front of the observers if such observers are appointed under Section 25, or if the tests are graded offsite by a bona fide testing agency, the observers shall witness the sealing and the shipping of the tests for grading and the subsequent opening of the scores upon the return from the testing agency.
(1) Every examinee shall have the right to obtain his or her score on the examination on the day of the examination or within a reasonable time after the day of its return from the testing agency (or the appointing authority may require the testing agency to mail the individual scores to any address submitted by the candidates on the day of the examination); and
(2) The appointing authority may hold a review session after the examination for the purpose of gathering feedback on the examination from the candidates.
(c) Sample written examinations may be examined by the appointing authority and members of the department, but no person in the department or the appointing authority (including the Chief, Civil Service Commissioners, Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, Board of Fire Commissioners, or Fire Protection District Board of Trustees and other appointed or elected officials) may see or examine the specific questions on the actual written examination before the examination is administered, except as agreed in advance, in writing, by the City and the IAFF Local 1147 Executive Board. Written Examinations. A written promotional eligibility exam will be given in January of each year unless there is no position vacancy then pending, in which event the Sheriff may defer the examination until the next promotional vacancy arises. The date of the exam shall be posted a minimum of ten (10) days prior to the date it is to be administered. The posting shall contain a general description of the subject matter covered in the exam. A standard or raw score (to be determined by the Director of Human Resources and announced prior to the test date) of 70% or above shall be required for an employee to pass the written examination. The written examination shall have a weight of 35 %.
Written Examinations. 8.11 An Occasional Teacher employed on a Long Term Assignment of at least three (3) months shall be granted a one (1) day leave of absence without loss of pay, but with deduction from sick leave credits to write an examination if such examination occurs during the school day.
Written Examinations. The written examination shall be obtained from any recognized police testing service and administered and graded by the City, and areas of questioning shall be taken from one (1) or more of the following five (5) sources: (1) Titles 11 and 12 of the Rhode Island General Laws; (2) Titles 3 and 31 of the Rhode Island General Laws; (3) City of Warwick Ordinances associated only with police-related matters; (4) the Department’s Accreditation manual (Rules and Regulations); and

Written Examinations. 1. Separate written examinations shall be administered for promotions to the classifications of Detective, Sergeant and Captain.
2. The written examinations for Sergeant, Detective and Captain shall contain a sufficient number of questions to adequately meet the needs of the Department as set forth in Section 11.1 of the Memorandum of Understanding. The precise number of questions and their format shall be left to the sound professional discretion of the outside testing firm retained to develop such examinations.
3. All examinations for promotion to the positions of Detective, Sergeant and Captain shall be administered on the same day, when practical.
4. A candidate will be allowed to review a copy of his or her answer sheet and a copy of the written examination. If required by the testing protocol of the outside firm, the candidate shall return the answer sheet and copy of the written examinations after review.
Written Examinations. All written examinations will be prepared, set, adjudicated and marked by the Training Chief Officer or the Fire Chief.
Written Examinations a. The City agrees to provide sufficient funds to secure new tests from any recognized testing agency, excluding the State Fire College and the Community Colleges. The tests, consisting of 100 questions, shall be delivered to the examiner the day of the examination. An advance information sheet shall be provided and posted for all promotional examinations. The sheet shall list the reference material from which the test is taken, and shall be posted when the examination is ordered, and at least 180 days prior to the examination. Members will be given a minimum of 30 days in which to enroll (“sign up”) for a promotional examination.
b. Unless specifically exempted by the automatic attainment provisions of Article 44: Career Ladders, all promoted positions within the Agreement will be filled through the administration of written examinations, except for the promoted position of FPO III which may be filled by an administrative Test and Evaluation (“T&E”) exam. No oral examination shall be administered for promotion purposes or advancement. Written exams shall be administered on a biannual basis with the resultant eligibility lists becoming effective 45 days after certification and shall remain in effect for a period of two years. Eligibility for a particular exam will be based upon a candidate’s applicable seniority as of the effective day of the list and not the date of administration.
c. A representative of the Union shall be permitted to observe the following steps of the promotional testing process: transfer and distribution of testing materials, examination, grading of the test, and challenge review.
Written Examinations. The written examinations referred to shall be given annually during the first week of June, except that if vacancies shall occur and no persons shall be qualified for promotion under this Section, then an examination may be given at the earliest practicable date for that vacancy, said test and the list derived therefrom to be good until the first week in the following June.
