ENTRY YEAR PROGRAM. The Board of Education will continue to provide an Entry Year/Mentor Program. The Board will provide mentors with a stipend of Eight Hundred Dollars ($800.00) each year in which they actually serve as a mentor.
ENTRY YEAR PROGRAM. 18.02.1 In accordance with state standards, the Resident Educator Program will be implemented for all Professional Staff Members subject to the Resident Educator requirements of the Ohio Department of Education. The Administration and the Association shall regularly review local implementation of the Resident Educator Program
18.02.2 Evaluations shall be required for all Professional Staff Members in the Resident Educator Program. The outcome of the evaluation could lead to non-renewal.
ENTRY YEAR PROGRAM. A. The Entry Year Program is intended to provide a formal program of positive support, xxxxxx professional growth, and prepare all entry year teachers for the performance-based assessment (currently Praxis III). An entry year teacher is defined as any bargaining unit member who is new to the profession and is employed under a 2-year provisional teaching license. The Entry Year Program and assessment examination does not replace the negotiated employment evaluation.
B. The Nelsonville-York Board of Education and the Nelsonville-York Education Association will present an orientation regarding confidentiality and the mentoring program for Mentors and Entry Year Teachers.
ENTRY YEAR PROGRAM. 26.1 The purpose of the entry year program is to provide support to an entry year certified employee or a certified employee with teaching experience entering his/her first year of service with the Board. A mentor shall be assigned to each new certified employee in the district at the start of the school year.
26.2 A certified employee must express a willingness to serve in the capacity of mentor for a full school year and assignments shall be voluntary. Mentors shall be paid a yearly stipend of $500.00.
26.3 Included in those duties and responsibilities shall be:
A. The emphasis of the mentor certified employee shall be on formative assistance and shall focus on skill enhancement and shall not be a remedial program.
B. No mentor certified employee shall participate in any informal or formal evaluation of the entry year certified employee nor make any recommendations regarding the assignment or continued employment of the entry year certified employee. All interaction, written or oral, between the mentor certified employee and the entry year certified employee shall be regarded with confidentiality and shall not be provided to the Board for evaluative purposes.
ENTRY YEAR PROGRAM. The Board shall participate in the ESC Resident Educator Program and shall follow all procedures and guidelines of the program. All members on a Resident Educator’s license shall be required to participate in the program. Should, at any time in the future, an ESC Resident Educator program cease to exist or should the Board opt out of the ESC program, a joint committee shall develop a District Resident Educator Program.
ENTRY YEAR PROGRAM. A $500 stipend per entry year teacher will be paid to unit members who serve as teacher mentors. The payment and the training of mentors shall be contingent upon continued State funding for entry year programs at levels no less than those in effect of the effective date of this agreement. Unit members who serve as teacher mentors meet state requirements for service as entry year teacher's mentors.
ENTRY YEAR PROGRAM. A. The entry year teacher is a teacher in the first year (or second year in some limited instances) of employment and all teachers newly hired into the Brunswick School District, regardless of years of service. All entry year teachers must participate in the program. The PAR panel will have the authority to exclude a teacher from the program because of special job-related considerations.
B. A consulting teacher will assume full responsibility for the evaluation of the entry year teacher and make recommendations to the PAR panel for employment decisions. As part of the entry year program, the consulting teacher will:
1. Meet with the entry year teacher to discuss the PAR program.
2. Act as a mentor to the entry year teacher, providing support, guidance, and formative assistance.
3. Observe the participating teacher and assess teaching performance.
4. Communicate regularly with the building principal regarding the progress of the program participant and to discuss reports.
C. The PAR panel will monitor the progress of each participant by reviewing status reports and evaluations regularly submitted by PAR consultants according to a schedule developed annually by the PAR Entry Year Coordinator and the Personnel Director.
D. Not later than six (6) weeks after initiation of the PAR program, the participant may request to have a new consulting teacher which may be assigned at the discretion of the PAR panel. The entry year teacher will be given notification of the deadline date in writing.
E. Employment recommendations (contract renewal, non-renewal or termination) for entry year participants will be made by the PAR panel to the Superintendent. The recommendation will be for one of the following: • Positive release - participant meets performance goals and is recommended for release from the program and contract renewal. • Continuation in PAR - continue participation in program for up to one additional school year as determined by the PAR consultant and the PAR panel in order to achieve goals (with the exception of entry year teachers who, having attained tenure in another district, become eligible to be considered for tenure at the end of their second year in the District and will be evaluated by an administrator). • Termination/nonrenewal - participant does not meet goals. Consulting teacher recommends termination or nonrenewal to PAR panel.
F. An entry year teacher shall be held harmless in the event that the employer fails to provide a consulting teacher.

ENTRY YEAR PROGRAM. The provisions of this Section 16.02 shall not be utilized so long as the Association and the Board continue the implementation of the PAR Program entry year version as contained in Subsection 16.01, herein. If the parties mutually agree to discontinue Section 16.01, then this Section 16.02 shall be implemented.
ENTRY YEAR PROGRAM. Mentor Teachers must have a minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience. Other criteria which may be considered in selecting Mentor Teachers include, but are not necessarily limited to:
i. possesses effective communication skills;
ii. demonstrates exemplary teaching practices;
iii. has a history of leadership and collegiality;
iv. has the willingness to devote time and energy to being Mentor Teacher. Principals in whose buildings Entry Year/New Teachers will be assigned will review applications for Mentor Teachers and initially recommend to the Superintendent Mentor Teachers for the Entry Year/New Teachers in their buildings. The Superintendent will make final recommendations to the Board of Education for the appointment of Mentor Teachers. The Board of Education will appoint the Mentor Teachers through individual supplemental contracts. Compensation for Mentor Teachers and Entry Year Teachers will be paid pursuant to the Supplemental Salary Schedule. The Director of Instruction or other designee of the Superintendent will implement the Entry Year Teacher Program. The program will be evaluated annually by the Director of Instruction or other designee of the Superintendent in consultation with the Mentor Teachers and Entry Year/New Teachers. This evaluation will be reviewed prior to the end of the school year with an Entry Year Teacher Committee consisting of: the Director of Instruction or other designee of the Superintendent, a principal of a school where at least one teacher participated in the entry year program during the school year, one entry year teacher, one mentor, one other teacher designated by the Association President. Suggestions of the Entry Year Teacher Committee will be considered in revising the entry year program for the following year. Not later than six (6) weeks after the commencement of the Entry Year/New Teacher’s participation in the entry year program, the Entry Year/New Teacher may request to have a new Mentor Teacher assigned. In the event a request for a new Mentor Teacher results in a previously appointed Mentor Teacher not having an Entry Year/New Teacher assigned, such previously appointed Mentor Teacher’s supplemental contract shall terminate, and the Mentor Teacher shall be paid a pro rata portion of the supplemental contract annual salary amount. ENTRY YEAR PROGRAM. The Entry Year Program Committee shall be composed of a majority of teachers who are appointed by the Association. The mentor teacher shall receive release time in order to support his/her inductee and to meet with other mentors in the district. The inductee shall receive release time to meet with his/her mentor, praxis evaluator and to observe other teachers. No adverse employment action shall occur as a result of the inductee failing to pass the entry year program. The Mentor/Inductee relationship shall be confidential.
