Heat Relief. It is understood that this issue will be referred back to the Heat Relief sub-committee and/or the current Joint Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) to review the report from the Industrial Hygienist’s previous study and proceed with implementing a revised Heat Relief Program. There will be two (2) main objectives to the revised Heat Relief program:
1. Ensure that the Company meets its legal obligation under the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
2. Change the heat relief system from a date driven process to a threshold limit value process as per the legislation and appropriate regulations.
Heat Relief. During the months of June to September the Company will make available water and electrolyte drinks in the Core Department, Mould, Melt & Pour area, Finishing Department, Aluminum Department, and Maintenance Department. The Company will maintain a Heat Stress Policy and will address specific concerns regarding exposure to heat as they occur.
Heat Relief. To determine if Heat Relief is required:
1) Take temperature from the various machine sections (three identified machines/section):
Heat Relief. During the months of June to September the Company will make available water and electrolyte drinks in the Core Department, Mould, Melt & Pour area, Finishing Department, Aluminum Department, and Maintenance Department. During the months of June to September employees will be allowed an additional ten (10) minute paid break to be taken in the second half of a shift. The Company will maintain a Heat Stress Policy and will address specific concerns regarding exposure to heat as they occur.
Heat Relief. To determine if Heat Relief is required:
1) Take temperature from the various machine sections (2 identified machines/section): Section 1: Machines 1-8 Section 2: Machines 9-17 Section 3: Machines 18-22 Section 4: Machines 23-37 Union Health and Safety Rep or Union person in presence of Operation Supervisor takes the temperature with the Temperature/Humidity thermometer as needed.
2) Record all temperatures and humidity readings on sheets. Find reading on chart to determine the humidex. The number determines if heat relief is required.
3) At least four (4) machines must meet the following Humidex criteria: Humidex of 93.2 Water will be supplied to all employees. Humidex of 104 + 3 (three) 10 (ten) minute breaks will be assigned in the required sections.
4) The parties will also rely on the Humidex Graph as agreed to on June 26, 2000. NOTE: if an individual requires a break without meeting the criteria, shows and/or signs of heat stress, they may request a break and shall be given one. Furthermore, the Company agrees to continue to monitor and to improve the overall environmental working conditions in the plant on a ongoing forward basis. Once heat breaks are added to the shift, heat breaks shall remain in effect for the remainder of the shift on a pro-rated basis.
Heat Relief. The formula for arriving at the required temperature and humidity to provide heat relief is as follows: When 1/5 of the humidity, plus the temperature is equal to 102 degrees Fahrenheit or more, the Company will provide heat relief in the amount of ten (10) minutes per hour. No heat relief shall be provided during the first hour of any shift. Eg. Humidity 70% (1/5 of 70) = 14 Temperature 88 = 88 102 In order to provide a reasonable process for the taking of temperature and humidity readings, the following has been established:
1) Die cast machines number 1,2 and 3 will have the readings taken at #3 trim.
2) Die cast machines number 4 to 9 will have the readings taken at #6 die cast machine.
3) Die cast machines number 11 to 13 will have readings taken at 11 trim.
4) Feeding end of inline shotblaster.
5) If an automatic DC runs manual, it will be checked where the operator stands.

Heat Relief. The parties agree that when the the plant reaches a level that the health of employees is in question, the Company will meet with the Shift Committee person to discuss actions to minimize the condition. Consideration will be given to extra breaks when the heat is excessive. Notwithstanding the foregoing, if an employee is unable to work due to excessive heat, the employee shall inform the Supervisor, who will grant a pass to leave the premises. The employee shall exit from the plant immediately upon receiving the pass.
Heat Relief. To determine if Heat Relief is required:
Heat Relief. Increase the frequency and length of rest breaks on high humidity days. Humidex readings should be taken hourly from a central location in the plant and reported to operations by shift managers. • Humidex Reading 36° Celsius – Plant Wide – 5 minutes for non-scheduled break hours. • Humidex Reading 40° Celsius – Plant Wide – 10 minutes for non-scheduled break hours. • Humidex Reading over 40° Celsius – Plant Wide – 15 minutes for non-scheduled break hours. 15 minutes to be confirmed by FCA, Plant Liaison and/or Local Union at FCA • Readings taken from ▇▇▇▇://▇▇▇▇▇▇▇.▇▇.▇▇/trends_table/pages/yyz_metr ic_e.html
