LONG-TERM LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY. CATEGORY II (PARENTAL, HEALTH, AND HOME RESPONSIBILITY LEAVES)
LONG-TERM LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY. A. Long-term leave of absence without pay may be granted to unit members by the District for a period of up to one (1) year, and may be extended for a total period not exceeding two (2) full school years (twenty-four [24] months from the beginning date of the leave except as otherwise provided in this Section). The unit member shall notify the Human Resource Services Division in writing of the desire to take such leave and, except in cases of emergency, should give notice prior to the date on which the leave is to begin. Probationary unit members are only eligible for military leave and pregnancy leave.
B. Leaves may be granted for:
LONG-TERM LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY. A teacher may be granted leave of absence without pay for a period of up to fourteen (14) consecutive months. A teacher’s application for such leave shall be submitted in writing to the Board four (4) months prior to the date when the leave is to commence. The Board shall notify a teacher within six (6) weeks of the final day for application.
LONG-TERM LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY.
1. A long-term leave of absence without pay is a leave subject to School Board approval for a specified period of time of not less than six calendar weeks and not more than one school year. A teacher may apply for an extension of the initial leave for the subsequent school year. Such leave may not be granted for employment elsewhere. However, the superintendent has the discretion to waive this restriction when it is believed to be in the best interest of the school system. Serving as a substitute teacher for the school district while on leave is not prohibited.
2. Long-term leave shall be authorized for the following reasons: Any teacher employed on a full-time basis who is unable to work because of personal illness, illness or death of father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, child or other close relative or member of teacher's household, shall be granted sick leave. The district may require a statement by a physician verifying the illness and/or certifying the teacher's ability to return to work.
LONG-TERM LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY. Long Term leaves of absence without pay shall be for a full year and may only be granted by the Board.
LONG-TERM LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY. Teachers on long term leave of absence without pay are not eligible to participate in the tax-sheltered annuity program.
LONG-TERM LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY. 11.1 Tenured and non-tenured administrators shall be entitled to leave without pay for one school year after seven years of continuous service.
1. Requests for a leave without pay must be submitted by February 1st in writing for the following school year.
2. No more than two (2) administrators shall be granted leave in any one (1) school year.
3. Such leave shall not be available for the purpose of accepting other employment.
4. Administrators shall not be eligible for a second such leave until they have completed seven additional consecutive years after taking the first such leave.
5. An administrator granted leave under this section shall be returned to the same or substantially equivalent position.
6. Any administrator who fails to return to duty on the expiration of long term leave upon the first working day following expiration of such leave shall be deemed to have terminated his/her employment with the District unless such delay is approved by the Board or unless the delay is due to extenuating circumstances. Administrators on long term leave shall be required to provide written notice of their intent to return by February 1st of the school year in which leave is taken.
LONG-TERM LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY. A leave of absence for one (1) year to commence September 01 may be granted by the Associate Director, Organizational Support Services or designate, upon written request of a Teacher subject to the following provisions:
LONG-TERM LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY. A. Any unit employee who has successfully completed the probationary period may request a leave of absence without pay for a period not exceeding one (1) year in length. The employee must make an application in writing to the Board of Education by filing the request with the Superintendent. The application is to be submitted at least thirty (30) calendar days prior to the expected beginning of the leave. The thirty-day (30) notice requirement may be waived by the Board of Education in accordance with extenuating circumstances. The grant or denial of this leave is subject to the decision of the Board of Education and this decision is final and not subject to the grievance procedure. This leave, if granted, will run coincident (that means at the same time) with any other leave of absence provided in accordance with state and federal laws.
B. A unit member’s seniority, to the extent permitted by law and regulation, will be retained during this leave of absence; however, no seniority will be earned during such leave of absence.
C. A unit member shall not engage in gainful employment during such leave of absence and this leave is neither for the purpose of recreation nor for the taking of a vacation.
X. Xxxxx to return to duty, the District may require an employee to undergo an examination by physician(s) to determine the condition of the employee as to his/her fitness for work.
LONG-TERM LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT PAY. A. Long-term leave of absence without pay may be granted to permanent unit members for a period of up to one (1) year, not exceeding two (2) full school years beginning from the date of the leave except as otherwise provided in this Section. The unit member shall notify the Human Resource Services Division in writing of the desire to take such leave and, except in cases of emergency, should give notice prior to the date on which the leave is to begin. Probationary unit members are only eligible for military leave and pregnancy leave.
B. Leaves may be granted for:
1. Professional Study A professional study leave may be granted to a unit member for a formal education program which offers a potential benefit to the District and the unit member. The District may require proof of the unit member's registration and participation in the formal education program.
2. Travel Travel leaves may be granted for educational purposes.
3. Opportunity Leave Unit members may be eligible for an opportunity leave for the purpose of improving job-related skills and knowledge benefiting the unit member and the District.
