The United Nations (UN), an international organization, has worked tirelessly to find ways to promote a better quality of life so that all people’s basic needs are met. In 1959, the UN adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which defines children’s rights to protection, education, healthcare, shelter, and nutrition. Based on the adopted declaration, The Miracle Foundation (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx), a family-focused non-profit that provides resources to orphans mostly in India, codified the UN’s Rights of the Child and developed a Thrive Scale, which measures how well child care facilities are able to obtain each of the rights for the children in their care. This Thrive Scale not only gives child care facility leaders a picture of how they’re doing, but specific and practical steps to improve. With permission, A Child’s Hope Foundation has revised the Thrive Scale to make it adaptable for orphanages. We have codified all 12 Rights, as well as a Finance, Governance, and Human Resource standards, resulting in a total of 15 Rights of the Child used by ACHF. These standards ensure that children receive care that truly helps them to thrive, now and in the future. The Thrive Assessment will be administered every 6 months to chart the progress of each standard. It, along with the Orphanage Improvement Roadmap and individual Child’s Hope Plans, will measure and help obtain these rights for each child. Casa Hogar Eben-Ezer is home to 32 children between 8 and 21. It was founded and run by Xxxxxx Xxxxxxx and Xxx Xxxxxx, a couple originally from Guatemala, who started the home in 2002 when they were invited to care for 18 children living in a nearby orphanage that had to close its doors. The need for care, love, and attention for these 18 children was so great that Xxx and Xxxxxx looked for all possible alternatives to help them. So they decided, at God’s call, to leave their home in Los Angeles, California, to move to Tijuana and undertake their mission. At the Eben-Ezer, all the children are part of one big family. The older children teach the younger ones how to fold their clothes, do their chores, get ready for school, and do their homework. Over the past 19 years, 210 children have been part of the family at Casa Hogar Eben-Ezer. Xxx and Xxxxxx have provided the same parenting to all of their children, where love for God, honesty, and responsibility are the core values of their extended family. Xxx and Xxxxxx have helped their children, as they call them, to become integrated members of society. They strive to raise responsible and happy citizens who succeed in whatever path they choose once they have left home. Casa Xxxxx Xxxx-Xxxx works hard to ensure that children are prepared to take care of themselves and will become good citizens and parents once they are on their own. That is why Xxx and Xxxxxx believe vocational education or learning a trade is the most important tool they can give their children to become self-sufficient. A Child’s Hope Foundation Mission Casa Hogar Eben-Ezer is an institution with moral and spiritual values whose mission is to support children and adolescents in stages of vulnerability. Their vision is to provide the necessary tools to children and adolescents so that they have a decent education to face future challenges. Long-Term Vision. The GFMC’s the long-term vision is that at least 30% of the land cover will be gazetted as permanent forest cover and managed according to the objectives defined by management plans. When this process is finalised, the permanent forest area will consist of legally gazetted • forest parks, • community forests, • private forests, and • protected areas. The identification of these permanent forest areas is based on an iterative planning process on village level taking into account the needs and requirements of the local population, customary land rights, land capability and environmental needs. It is expected that in the end about 200,000 ha of community forests and 10,000 ha of private forests will be established.
Long-Term Vision. Sketching is at the roots of any design activity. Sketches are the materials that are passed through the early loops of the design process, as through them the designer produces, verifies, selects, communicates, and refines ideas. In this context, hand and pencil are still the primary tools used by designers to produce a large variety of initial concepts in a very short time. The community of graphic designers has been paying attention to the cognitive and creative processes involved in sketching activities, and has developed tools to facilitate them. Design is however embracing new areas where non-graphical aspects become important. Specifically, within the wide area of interaction design there is a growing interest in interaction mediated by sound. Examples include mobile devices, video-games, social networks, etc. Furthermore, technological develop- ments are rapidly populating our everyday environments with networks of interconnected objects1 dressed with technological capabilities (computing, sensing, and communicating), which seriously raises the issue of communication between users and ubiquitous “machines” devoid of traditional interfaces (displays and keyboards). In product design, designers and theorists are becoming aware that the sonic manifestations of objects can afford natural, powerful, and useful interactions, and participate to the aesthetic appraisal of a product. The transportation industry, in particular, is deeply concerned with the sound quality of the vehicles. The most notable example is probably that of the sounds of quiet vehicles (electric and hybrid), which addresses the issues of pedestrian safety, product aesthetics, and brand image2. In comparison to graphic design, however, the problem of sketching, and more generally of communi- cating the auditory aspects and sonic behavior of objects, has not been seriously addressed yet. Tools that enable intuition, expressiveness, and cooperation are still missing in sound design. In particular, there is no single analogue to hand and pencil, but rather a plethora of tools and methods that can be used to rapidly 1This potentially concerns 50-70 billion ‘machines’ xxxx://xx.xxxxxx.xx/information_society/policy/rfid/documents/commiot2009.pdf 2The forecast of worlwide sales of electric vehicles is 3.8 million annually by 2020 xxxx://xxx.xxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx/newsroom/worldwide-electric-vehicle-sales-to-reach-3-8-million-annually-by-2020

Long-Term Vision. THE THRIVE ASSESSMENT 4 What is the Thrive Assessment? 5 Current Thrive Scale for Orphanage 20 Strategic Initiatives A Child’s Hope Foundation Overview of Orphanage Background Casa Hogar La Xxxxxx, A.C. was founded by Xxxxxxxxx and Xxxxxxxxx XxXxxxxxx who visited a home that housed abandoned children and elderly volunteers while doing community service in early 1976. Seeing the precarious conditions in which these individuals were living, they took on the task of channeling the elderly to different nursing homes for proper care and began working to improve the living conditions of the children. They formed the first board of trustees made up of friends and volunteers who took the name Hogar Infantil La Xxxxxx. Due to the scope of this project, the financial sponsorship of the Order of Augustinian Fathers of San Diego was sought. On March 18, 1987, after establishing a stable facility and financial resources to support the home, the articles of incorporation were notarized and the board of trustees was legally formalized. In subsequent years, the efforts of these dedicated individuals and the growing number of benefactors and volunteers supported the consolidation of the home. However, in 1996 a short circuit in the children’s dormitories caused a fire, resulting in the loss of the dormitories. Thankfully, the children and staff were in the movie theater at the time and no one was injured. With the help of the board of trustees, volunteers, and the community, new dormitories along with safer electrical installations were soon installed. The facilities and support for the children continue to improve. In 2004, the board of trustees decided to change the profile of the children they served from voluntarily surrendered children to those housed in a government institution, mainly children who are dependent on the Integral Development System for the Family (DIF). The purpose of this change was to better support the government in the care of vulnerable children. In 2014, due to administrative issues, the home changed names from Hogar Infantil La Xxxxxx to Casa Hogar La Xxxxxx A.C. Although the home has the capacity to house up to 32 minors, they presently care for 21 children and adolescents in vulnerable situations who are under the guardianship of DIF. A Child’s Hope Foundation Mission Mission: To provide protection to each child, adolescent, and youth under the care of Casa Hogar La Xxxxxx, A.C.
