PERSONAL LEAVE - Usage. A. Personal leave days may not be taken the day immediately prior to or after a holiday or vacation, unless approved by the immediate supervisor. An ESP planning to use a personal day or days shall notify his/her immediate supervisor at least one (1) day in advance except in cases of emergency. The immediate supervisor may deny personal leave if an emergency occurs and coverage of the ESP’s responsibilities cannot be arranged.
B. An ESP with the approval of his/her supervisor may take personal leave during the first week or last week of school, or in the first work week prior to the start of school.
C. ESPs assigned to a regular position may accumulate personal leave, but not use it during their initial sixty (60) days of service. This restriction may be extended for an additional sixty (60) days of service at the District's option.
D. ESPs may use personal leave before or after a holiday or vacation for absenteeism for days of religious observation when the need for religious leave is documented.

PERSONAL LEAVE - Usage. (A) In addition to scheduled vacation, personal leave may be claimed for the following:
1. Illness or injury which incapacitates any Engineer Officer to the extent that the Engineer is unable to perform assigned work. The Engineer Officer shall notify the Employer of incapacitating illness or injury at the earliest possible time so that arrangements for a Relief Engineer Officer may be made.
2. Illness or disability within the Engineer Officer's immediate family which requires the attendance of the Engineer at the direction of a physician. Such absences shall in all instances be supported by physician's certificate.
3. Funeral attendance of deaths in the family to the maximum of eighty-four (84) hours. "Immediate family" is defined as father, mother, husband, wife, sons, daughters, brother, sister, grandchildren, grandparents, father-in-law, and mother-in-law. It shall be the Engineer's responsibility to provide evidence of such attendance.
PERSONAL LEAVE - Usage. Employees are allowed to use two (2) work days of accrued sick leave (the number of hours depending upon the employees’ normal work schedule), each fiscal year for personal business reasons. Requests for personal leave must be approved in advance by supervision. If an employee does not use the allowed personal leave during the fiscal year, the unused hours are maintainedin the sick leave balance. Unused personal leave hours are not carried over into a subsequent fiscal year for additional personal leave use. If an employee records on the weekly time sheet personal leave use in excess of the amount authorized each fiscal year, the excess number of hours will automatically be charged to accrued vacation, if available, or will be “no pay”.

E. Site Administrator may identify up to three days per year in which ESPs are expected to not utilize personal leave days. The dates shall be provided to staff by October 15 of the respective school year. Such dates shall occur during the State testing window for AzMERIT Testing and ACT testing.
PERSONAL LEAVE - Usage. Personal leave shall not be charged an employee for an absence due to an on-the- job injury until and unless the employee has exhausted the allowable period of Workers’ Compensation leave and desires to use his/her personal leave for the benefit of remaining on the regular payroll. The amount of personal leave to be charged, for the purpose of maintaining the employee on regular pay status, shall be the minimum amount in hourly increments to equal the difference between Workers’ Compensation payments and the employee’s regular pay.
PERSONAL LEAVE - Usage. Accrued Personal Leave may be taken at any time when authorized by their appointed manager/designee. Scheduling will be accomplished on a seniority basis in classification for the first request of three (3) consecutive work days or more provided that the request is submitted prior to March 31. Denial of requested leave must be substantiated on the basis that granting of such leave would be detrimental to the efficient operations of the system. Requests for accrued Personal Leave of less than three (3) consecutive workdays must be submitted at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance unless the Personal Leave is for illness or emergency.

4. Pregnancy and/or childbirth for an Engineer Officer. Claims for personal leave submitted for these reasons shall be treated in the same manner as are any other personal leave claims. If a medical doctor certifies the father's presence is necessary, the leave provisions as above shall be applicable to him also.
PERSONAL LEAVE - Usage. (excluding days before and after a holiday and first and last day of the school term)
1. If possible, the employee will give a 24 hour advance notice to the immediate supervisor.
2. During this Agreement, employees may use all three personal days without reason.
PERSONAL LEAVE - Usage. 1. Except for emergency situations, and the first calendar year of employment, every Employee shall be required to use at least 80 hours (112 for 56-hour Employees) of personal or administrative leave (personal, administrative, medical or non-disciplinary LWOP) during each year. Effective the end of the first pay period of each calendar year, each Employee's personal leave account shall be reduced by an amount equal to the difference between 80 hours and the amount of personal leave the Employee actually used.
2. The Employee shall not be compensated for said unused personal leave, unless the Employer has not afforded the Employee a reasonable opportunity to use 80 hours (or 112 for 56-hour Employees). Only personalAll personal, administrative, medical and/or non- disciplinary LWOP leave which is actually taken may shall count as part of the 80 hour minimum. Leave used from the Employee’s medical leave bank or leave cashed in does not qualify as part of the minimum. For Employees covered by Article 29, Section 1.d, administrative leave may be used to meet the above minimums.
3. Approval for personal leave shall take into consideration the demands of workload. Every reasonable effort shall be made to schedule personal leave at the convenience of the Employee. The Employer shall respond to the Employee's request for personal leave within ten (10) calendar days if the leave is requested within three (3) months, within twenty (20) days if within six (6) months, and thirty (30) days if within twelve (12) months. Except as provided for 56-hour Employees, leave may not be requested more than twelve (12) months in advance.
4. Except in emergency situations, personal leave which has been approved at least sixty (60) days in advance shall not be changed without mutual agreement.
5. Where two (2) or more Employees within a department simultaneously request personal leave having overlapping times, the Employee having the most seniority within the department will be given his/her choice. Otherwise leave shall be granted on a first come first served basis. Where Employees are co-workers with Employees of other agencies, seniority will be based on service with their respective agencies.
6. Personal leave shall not be debited in advance of time being accrued. In the event that an Employee has a qualifying absence reason and does not have personal leave accrued, leave without pay shall be requested.
