Sick Leave Cashout. Upon eligibility of retirement in accordance with the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS), employees will receive payment for 25% of all unused, accrued sick leave at the time of separation up to a maximum of 300 hours, to be paid into the employee’s HRA/VEBA subject to IRS limits. Employees are not required to apply for DRS retirement to be eligible to receive payment under this subsection.

Sick Leave CashoutSick leave cash-out procedures shall be in accordance with the law: A. In January of the year following any year in which a minimum of sixty (60) days of leave for illness or injury is accrued, and each January thereafter, any eligible employee may exercise an option to receive remuneration for unused leave for illness or injury accumulated in the previous year at a rate equal to one (1) day's monetary compensation of the employee for each four (4) full days of accrued leave for illness or injury in excess of sixty (60) days. Leave for illness or injury for which compensation has been received shall be deducted from accrued leave for illness or injury at the rate of four (4) days for every one (1) day's monetary compensation: PROVIDED, that no employee may receive compensation under this section for any portion of leave for illness or injury accumulated at a rate in excess of one (1) day per month. B. At the time of separation from District employment due to retirement or death, an eligible employee or the employee's estate shall receive remuneration at a rate equal to one (1) day's current monetary compensation of the employee for each four (4) full days accrued leave for illness or injury.

Provisions of this leave shall be administered in accordance with rules and regulations adopted now or as hereafter amended. Sick Leave Cash Out: Pursuant to RCW 28A.400.210 the following conditions shall apply: On or before January 31st, or the last business day of January, employees may elect to be compensated at the ratio of 4:1 at their per diem rate for Sick Leave accumulated in excess of sixty (60) days which was earned but unused during the previous calendar year. PROVIDED, that no employee may receive compensation under this Section for any portion of leave for illness or injury accumulated at a rate in excess of one day per month. Employees who retire shall be entitled to compensation for all unused Sick Leave up to one hundred and eighty (180) day maximum at the ratio of 4:1 at their per diem rate as allowed by law. The applicable employee group will vote annually on cash out or deposit of excess sick leave into the employee’s VEBA accounts. Unused sick leave shall lapse in the event of discharge or voluntary resignation, except as provided in RCW 41.04.340. SECTION 4 - JURY AND SUBPOENA LEAVE Leave of absence with pay shall be granted for jury duty and/or when an employee has been subpoenaed to appear in a court of law in his/her capacity as an employee of the District. Sick Leave CashoutEmployees eligible to accrue sick leave and who have successfully completed at least five (5) years of county service and who retire as a result of length of service, or who leave County employment in good standing after twenty-five (25) years or more, or who terminate by reason of death shall be paid, or their estates paid or as provided for by RCW Title 11, as applicable, an amount equal to thirty-five (35) percent of their unused, accumulated sick leave multiplied by the employee’s rate of pay in effect upon the date of leaving county employment less mandatory withholdings.
