The Pre-TAS in Waropen utilized FTS and with only 3 positive samples identified, the district is considered to have passed. The Pre-TAS surveys in Aceh Jaya and Aceh Timur utilized mf detection in night blood, with samples currently being analyzed in the relevant BBTLKs. • WHO SEARO organized a NTD program managers meeting in conjunction with the RPRG from June 28 to July 1. The newly appointed Head of NTD Work Team and another staff member attended the meeting. Extensive discussions were held on how to implement surveys in Brugia endemic areas without a valid rapid diagnostic tool. Results of these discussions will be incorporated into plans for the remainder of FY22 and in the Act | East FY23 work plan.
Upcoming activities requiring COVID protocols. Act | East will support school-based TAS2 in six districts (Terhathum, Sunsari, Lalitpur Rural, Myagdi, Surketh and Jajarkot) through VBDRTC. This activity was initially planned for April-May 2021, but the timeline is uncertain due to rise in COVID cases, localized lockdowns, travel restrictions and school closures. When cases reduce and travel is determined to be safe again, Act | East staff will travel to provide supportive supervision for the survey which targets children in grades 1 and 2. • Act | East will support a GESI assessment in three districts (Banke, Dang and Kapilvastu) through local consultants managed by WI-HER and RTI. This activity was originally planned for May but is currently on hold due to a rise in COVID cases in the three target districts as well as in Kathmandu where the consultants are based.
