Accumulation and Use. Paid sick leave may be accumulated up to a maximum of 1920 hours and may be used for: A. Absence of an hour or more due to non-job-related bona fide sickness or injury of the employee, the employee's spouse, child or dependent as defined by the FMLA, when it is necessary for an employee to be absent to care for them. B. For medical, dental or eye examination for which arrangements cannot be made during his off-duty hours.

Accumulation and Use. 1. Full-time employees shall accumulate and may use sick leave at the following rates: a. Shift personnel shall accumulate sick leave at the rate of 240 hours per calendar year (20 hours per month). b. Day personnel shall accumulate sick leave at the rate of 200 hours per calendar year (16.67 hours per month). 2. Sick leave shall be accrued and recorded at the end of each month. Sick leave shall be accrued on an unlimited basis. 3. In the event that an employee exhausts his/her sick leave accrual, other leave banks will be exhausted in the following order: 1. Vacation accrual, 2. Donated leave pursuant to District policy, 3. Unpaid leave status.
Accumulation and Use. Subject to Article 14 herein, employees shall be granted sick leave with pay of eighteen (18) working days per year, with no restriction as to the number of days that may be accumulated; however, only one hundred sixty days (160) will be allowed to be used in any one calendar year for illness or other purpose stipulated in this Agreement. (a) Employees will be permitted up to twelve (12) hours for visits to a Doctor or Dentist on Employer's time for non-emergencies in any one (1) year. Appointments shall be con- firmed in advance with the Xxxxxxx. (b) Sick leave shall be credited on January 1st of each calendar year. (c) Employees commencing employment part way through a calendar year will be granted sick leave days at the rate of one and one-half (1½) days for each month worked com- mencing from date of employment. Days absent due to illness will be deducted from any accumulated sick leave days. Wage deductions will be made when there are no remaining accumulated sick leave days. (d) Employees with one (1) year or more of service as at December 31st of the then current year would receive annually a further credit of eighteen (18) working days on January 1st of the next following calendar year. (e) It is understood and agreed that, with reference to this section and subsection herein, no employee shall be entitled to more than eighteen (18) days' sick leave until the completion of one (1) year of service. (f) Sick pay and General Holiday pay shall be paid at the employee's current rate of pay or at the employee's posted rate of pay, whichever is greater. (g) In the event of the death of any regular employee, any unused sick leave credit shall be paid to the estate of the deceased.

If employee utilizes forty (40) undocumented hours or less of SL per calendar year, an additional 17.60 hours of SL will be added to the employee’s SL account. This benefit commences on the second year of the employee’s employment. d. The audit of SL use will be commensurate with the annual SL sell back option. e. If an employee utilizes more than forty (40) hours of undocumented SL per calendar year, the following shall occur: 1) Employee’s uniform allowance shall cease for the whole duration of the upcoming year. 2) Employee is no longer eligible for an alternate work schedule. Therefore, if the employee is working an alternate work schedule, the employee’s schedule shall revert back to normal workdays. Employee may appeal to the Fire Chief, or his/her designee. However, the Fire Chief, or his/her designee, may terminate an alternative work schedule for reasons including, but not limited to, employee job performance is adversely affected, employee is transferred to another assignment where an alternative work schedule is not feasible, employee fails to abide by the terms and conditions set forth in the agreement, to meet the business needs of the District. 3) Employee’s PTO leave accrual shall be charged for any undocumented SL taken (i.e., illness, doctor’s appointment). 4) Employee will not be eligible to participate in the annual SL Buy Back, as defined in this Article, Section 5, for that calendar year. 5) Employee shall no longer accrue the additional 17.60 hours of SL, should he/she currently receives that benefit. 6) Employee may be subject to discipline, pursuant to Article 27: Disciplinary Actions.

Shift personnel shall accumulate sick leave at the rate of 132 hours per calendar year (11 hours per month) until the end of their third year of employment. Thereafter, shift personnel shall accumulate sick leave at the rate of 264 hours per calendar year (22 hours per month) and sick leave shall be deducted on an even- hour basis. i. If employee utilizes seventy-two (72) hours or less of un-documented SL per calendar year, an additional twenty-four (24) hours of SL will be added to the employee’s SL account. ii. The audit of SL use will be commensurate with the annual SL sell back option. b. Day personnel shall accumulate sick leave at the rate of 7.88 hours per month until the end of their third year of employment. Thereafter, day personnel shall accumulate sick leave at a rate of 189 hours per calendar year (15.75 hours per month) and sick leave shall be deducted at an even hour basis. i. If employee utilizes forty (40) hours or less of un-documented SL per calendar year, an additional 17.60 hours of SL will be added to the employee’s SL account. ii. The audit of SL use will be commensurate with the annual SL sell back option. 2. Sick leave shall be accrued and recorded at the end of each month. Sick leave shall be accrued on an unlimited basis. 3. In the event that an employee exhausts his/her sick leave accrual, other leave banks will be exhausted in the following order: 1. Vacation accrual, 2. CTO accrual, 3. Requests for donations from District Personnel, 4. An extension of sick leave with the recommendation of the Fire Chief, by the Board of Directors, and based on the employee’s service record, 5. Unpaid leave status. 4. An employee who utilizes sick leave due to illness/injury of a family member shall only schedule those hours required until a spouse or other responsible family member is available to oversee care.
