Call-In Shifts. The Employer may be required to arrange call-in shifts in instances of an emergency or to cover for sudden employee absences. Call-in shifts are to be offered by seniority, on a department basis.

Where a call-in would result in overtime hours, or hours worked contrary to Section 36 of the BC Employment Standards Act (Hours Free from Work), or the employee does not respond within a reasonable amount of time, the Employer is permitted to move down the seniority list. Call-in shifts are to be accepted or denied at the sole discretion of the employee.

Employees accepting a call-in to complete a scheduled shift that has already commenced are to be paid the greater of two (2) hours or the hours worked.
Call-In Shifts. In the event the Employer must replace hours of work that come available due to the same day absence of an employee, the Union and the Employer agree that such hours of work will be filled as follows:
a. Every reasonable effort will be made to maximize the hours of work in seniority sequence of employee(s) working that day, subject to their ability to perform the work.
b. The Employer will then attempt to fill these hours by making one (1) telephone call in seniority sequence to employees not working that day, with the ability to perform the work. The hours will be assigned in seniority sequence to those employees contacted.
c. The task of re-scheduling and calling in employees will be assigned to one (1) employee each day.
d. The Employer agrees to keep a record of the time and date each phone call is made. If a grievance arises from this issue, the grieving employee or the Union will have access to this record.
Call-In Shifts a. Once the schedule is posted, all other shifts that become available shall be known as call-in shifts.
b. It is understood that the Employer will not be required to offer shifts which would result in overtime premium pay.
c. Call in shifts will be offered on the basis of seniority. Calls shall be offered to employees by seniority in the following order, provided they are not at overtime:
i. All Regular Part Time not at commitment
ii. All Regular Part Time and Job Share employees on the unit, including those who have retracted unavailable days and those who are listed as unavailable, in accordance with Article 13.03 a) iv) (excluding those listed as vacation days)
iii. All Casual Part Time on the unit
iv. All Regular Part Time off the unit (Lettered), including those listed as unavailable in accordance with Article 13.03 a) iv).
v. Summer Students
vi. Casual Float Pool employees d. A shift will be deemed to be offered whenever a call is placed;
Call-In Shifts. During regular business hours the Program Manager or designate shall be responsible for Call Ins. After hours call in shifts will be done by the house designated by the Employer and Article 11.01 (f) shall apply. It is understood that call in shifts would be a result of sick leave and personal emergency leaves. Employees who are calling in sick outside of administration hours must call program in charge of call ins (Hope Terrace or designate) and the on-call manager. It is understood the daily call-in list shall be made available after hours for continuity of records. In the event that an employee is overlooked on call-in for regular or overtime shifts, such employee shall receive compensation for missed opportunity by means of having the employee scheduled for all hours missed. It is understood that such hours will be scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time between the Employer and the employee within the next four (4) pay periods.
Call-In Shifts a) When a vacancy arises due to an Employee being absent for any reason, a part-time Employee may be temporarily assigned to fill the position.
b) In such event the Employer shall fill the shift in the following order:
i) Part time Employees in order of seniority who are not scheduled to work or will not have worked thirty (30) hours in the one week scheduling block.
ii) To full-time Employees in order of seniority.
iii) Part-time Employees, at straight time, even if it results in the Employee working more than thirty (30) hours in the one week scheduling block.
c) Should the Employer and/or Employee still be unable to fill the shift, the Employer will offer the temporary assignment to Employees employed at the Whitby location who have expressed availability for Oshawa in the following order: • Part time Employees in order of seniority who are not scheduled to work or will not have worked thirty (30) hours in the one week scheduling block. (It is agreed it is the Employee’s responsibility to inform the person calling of the number of scheduled/worked hours for the week in question.) • To full-time Employees in order of seniority. • Part-time Employees, at straight time, even if it results in the Employee working more than thirty (30) hours in the one week scheduling block. • If the Employer is still unable to fill the temporary vacancy by the above method the position can be filled by an outside agency.
d) Any Employee offered a call-in shift will be provided with four (4) hours to respond. However, when the call-in shift is in less than twenty-four (24) hours, a four (4) hours response time will not be provided. If direct contact has not been made with the Employee, and after a message has been left on the Employee’s answering machine, the Employer will proceed to the next available staff in order of seniority.
e) Should the Employer and/or Employee fill a shift and in so doing miss an Employee in the established protocol, the missed Employee will be provided with an in-kind opportunity within the same pay schedule in which the error occurred. If the Employer is unable to provide an in-kind remedy or the Employee is unable to work an in-kind remedy within the next two (2) pay periods from which the error occurred, the affected Employee will be paid for the missed opportunity.
Call-In Shifts. Call in shifts shall be equitably distributed among qualified employees subject to employee availability at time of scheduling.
