Celebrated Holidays. (a) The following holidays, when not worked will be paid at the straight time rate. All work performed on the following mentioned days will be paid for at the additional straight time rate, provided that the employees concerned work on the day before and the day after the holiday and that employees who received written consent of the Company to be absent on either the day before or the day after the holiday shall not forfeit their holiday pay. New Year’s Day Labor Day Memorial Day Thanksgiving Day Independence Day Christmas Day The above holidays will be paid to both part-time & full-time employees. However, part- time employees must have 9 months of continuous service to be eligible for this pay (b) Floating Holiday: In addition to the holidays specified in 10.1 (a), covered full-time employees shall also receive, as a paid holiday, one floating holiday, which day shall be determined by mutual agreement between the employee and the Company. Part-time employees who have 3 years of continuous service shall also receive one floating holiday as a paid holiday. Employees shall be permitted to use the floating holiday in four hour increments. Effective January 1, 2017 floating holidays shall be awarded on January 1st of each year based on the employee’s seniority on such date. (c) Christmas Eve for employees normally scheduled to work forty (40) hours per week. If Christmas Eve falls on a regular work day, such employees shall be required to work only five (5) hours, but shall be paid for eight (8) hours. The employee’s shift on Christmas Eve shall begin at the employee’s regular start time unless otherwise required by the client. The actual hours of work for that day shall be consistent with the requirements of the individual building and tenants. (d) On Eid and New Year’s Eve, the employer shall make a good faith effort to accommodate janitors’ requests to work a half-day, or to leave early. Such employees may use vacation time or the floating holiday (upon the employee’s request) to avoid unpaid time on that day. The employee’s request shall not be denied solely on the basis that it was not pre-approved.

The alternate day off is to be taken within six (6) months after the holiday upon mutual agreement between the Employer and Employee. 12.03 If a paid holiday falls within a full-time employee’s normal schedule/rotation they shall have the option to either work the holiday with the appropriate pay or to request the holiday off, subject to operational requirements. Requests for the holiday off must be made prior to the work schedule being posted for that period. 12.04 In order to qualify for pay for a holiday, an employee shall complete her full shift on each of the scheduled working days immediately preceding and following the holiday concerned unless excused by the Employer or the employee was absent due to: (a) approved sick leave; (b) vacation granted by the Employer; (c) the employee's regular scheduled day off; (d) a paid leave of absence provided the employee is not otherwise compensated for the holiday. (a) Where a holiday falls on an employee's scheduled day off, an additional day off with pay will be scheduled at a mutually acceptable time. (b) Where a holiday falls during an employee's scheduled vacation period, her vacation shall be extended by one (1) day unless the employee and the Employer agree to schedule a different day off with pay. 12.06 A tour that begins or ends during the twenty-four (24) hour period of the above holidays, where the majority of hours worked falls within the holiday, shall be deemed to be work performed on the holiday for the full period of the tour.

  • Paid Holidays – Long Weekends (a) When an employee is scheduled to work a weekend where a paid holiday falls on the Monday or the Friday, the Employer shall endeavour to also schedule the employee to work the paid holiday. (b) When the employee is scheduled off on a weekend where a paid holiday falls on the Monday or the Friday, the Employer shall endeavour to schedule the employee off the paid holiday. (c) In the event of a scheduling conflict, 12.07 (a) will be the deciding provision.

  • Holidays A. C. If an employee shall be required to work on a holiday, the employee shall be paid at the rate of one and one-half (1 1/2) times his/her regular straight time hourly rate for such work. D. Permanent, part time employees shall be entitled to the holidays of this Article and shall receive as holiday pay an amount prorated on the basis of the average fraction of the standard workweek worked during the past fiscal year. E. If an employee is absent from work for any part of the last scheduled work day before or the first scheduled work day after the day on which a holiday is observed pursuant to the terms of this Article, such employee shall receive holiday pay provided such absence is for an authorized or excused reason such as, but not limited to, illness, accident, vacation, personal leave day, bereavement leave day, or extreme weather conditions. It is understood that such authorized or excused absence need not be with pay in order for the employee to be eligible for the holiday pay. F. Subject to prior mutual written agreement between the Town and the Association, a schedule for holiday observances which differs from the days indicated in A may be established for employees of the Greenwich Library and Greenwich Board of Education, provided that the number of paid holidays is equal to the number of holidays set forth in A. In the event no agreement is reached for such change, the holiday schedule set forth in A shall control. Notwithstanding the above, in the event Board of Education determines to include Columbus Day and/or Veterans’ Day as a regular school day, such day(s) shall become part of the regular work week and the premium pay as set forth in paragraph C of this Article shall not apply. In such event each employee affected by the change shall be granted a floating holiday for Columbus Day and Veterans’ Day as each may be discontinued at the discretion of the Board of Education. The floating holidays shall be used during the school year. An employee wishing to use such floating holiday shall provide the Board with advance notice and the Board shall not unreasonably deny, condition or withhold the employee’s ability to utilize the floating holiday on a date of the employee’s choosing.

  • Weekend Holidays 9.3.1. A full-time employee who works a Monday through Friday schedule and the calendar holiday falls on a Saturday, the employee shall be allowed the preceding day off. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the employee shall be allowed the following day off. If the employee works the day preceding or following such a holiday, he/she shall be given another workday off with pay or shall receive payment for that day at the regular rate. 9.3.2. A full-time employee who works other than a Monday through Friday schedule and who is not scheduled to work on a calendar holiday shall be given at the discretion of the Employer (1) another scheduled workday off with pay, or (2) an additional day's pay at his/her regular rate if funds are available.

  • Holidays Worked When an employee works on a calendar holiday, he/she shall receive payment of the holiday at the regular rate and in addition, at the discretion of the Employer, (1) be paid at the rate of time and one half for hours actually worked on the holiday or (2) be given compensatory time off equal to one and one half the number of hours actually worked.

  • PLANT HOLIDAYS 21:01 The following shall be recognized as statutory holidays: New Years Day Labour Day (a) Where any of the above mentioned holidays fall on a Sunday, the Monday following will be recognized as a holiday. If the holiday falls on a Saturday, the Company will designate the preceding Friday, or the following Monday to be observed as the holiday. The Company and Union Committee may agree on other arrangements. (b) Where any of the above mentioned holidays fall on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday the Company and Union Committee by mutual agreement may designate the preceding Monday or following Friday to be observed as the holiday. (c) The Company and Union Committee may mutually agree on arrangements, whereby time that normally would be paid at overtime rates may be worked at straight time rates and substituted for a normal working day or any other arrangements that the two parties deem suitable. (d) All employees who have acquired seniority shall receive payment for such holidays based on their base rate multiplied by the number of hours which would normally have been worked on such day, subject to the following conditions: To be eligible for holiday pay, an employee must work the full of the work day immediately preceding the holiday and the full of the work day immediately following such holiday. Provided that this restriction shall not apply to: (i) An employee who has been absent and receiving Workers’ Compensation or sick benefits under the group insurance plan up to but not including the statutory holiday where such employee works the full work day immediately following such holiday. (ii) Nor shall this restriction apply to an employee who has worked the full workday immediately preceding such holiday but who is absent and received Workers’ Compensation or sick benefits under the group insurance plan for the work day immediately following such holiday. (iii) Nor shall this restriction apply to an employee who is absent either the work day immediately preceding or the work day immediately following such holiday by reason of bereavement as provided in Article 20:04. (iv) Nor shall this restriction apply to those persons granted a written leave of absence. (v) Nor shall this restriction apply to an employee who has been late up to seventy five (75) spaces (forty five (45) minutes) the work day immediately preceding the holiday or the work day immediately following such holiday. 21:02 An employee shall receive any overtime pay to which he/she is entitled in accordance with Articles 12:01 and 12:02 for the work that he/she performs on such statutory holiday, in addition to his/her holiday pay. 21:03 For the purposes of clarity, the parties agree that the benefit provided in this article constitute a greater right or benefit than provided for in the Employment Standards Act.
