Christmas Schedules. (Full-Time and Part-Time) i) The schedule covering Christmas and New Year’s will be posted on or before November 15th of each year. Vacation requests will be submitted electronically by October 7th. When vacation is granted it will be granted on the basis of seniority provided that statutory holiday coverages needs are met. A committee of three (3) nurses, one who will be the ONA Unit representative on the unit, will identify themselves to the unit manager to who will review the Christmas schedule prior to posting. The Manager must provide the schedule to the above committee and the Bargaining Unit President no later than October 31st. Recommendations and/or solutions from the committee must be provided to the manager no later than November 5th. Time will be provided during the nurses’ shift to review the Christmas schedule, to a maximum of one (1) hour. ii) Scheduling provisions related to weekend scheduling and resultant premiums (see D – 3 (c) iii)) may be waived during the period from December 15th to January 10th, where necessary to accommodate the required days off at Christmas and New Year’s. The Health Centre will endeavour to minimize the number of consecutive weekends. iii) The Health Centre will endeavour to schedule eight (8) hour tours for Christmas Day, if the member requests the eight (8) hour tour. Barring unforeseen circumstances, request for changing a posted Christmas schedule must be electronically submitted and accepted by the employee willing to exchange shifts no later than December 15th. Any change/exchange, when initiated by the employee shall, before implementation, require the prior approval of the appropriate Director/Manager. Subject to the usual requirements for maintaining efficiency and quality in the department, such approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. iv) The Health Centre will endeavour to schedule six (6), and will schedule not less than five (5), consecutive days off to include Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day or New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day for each employee, except for nurse’s whose regular days of work are Monday to Friday. Christmas Schedules a. To provide for Christmas and New Year’s scheduling, the normal scheduling provisions will be waived between December 15 and January 15. The Christmas schedule shall be posted by November 1. b. The Christmas holiday will include: Christmas Eve Day; Christmas Day; and Boxing Day. The New Year’s holiday will include: New Year’s Eve Day and New Year’s Day. i. The Christmas period shall include from 2300 hours on December 23rd to 1900 hours on December 26th. ii. The New Year’s period shall include from 2300 hours on December 30th to 0700 hours on January 2nd. c. The Employer will endeavour within a unit/department to schedule employees off for three (3) consecutive days at either Christmas or New Year’s. Where extended tours are present, the Employer will endeavour to schedule full time employees off for five (5) consecutive days; part time employees not less than three (3) consecutive days off. d. Both full time and part-time employees will rotate between working Christmas and New Year’s, alternating year to year, with exceptions to any leave of absence from work that takes place prior to the posted Christmas/New Year’s schedule. The Hospital will post a Christmas and New Year’s preference sheet no later than September 1st in each year. Employees are to indicate their preference for time off no later than September 30th. Where a conflict arises, employees who have requested the same holiday off as the previous year will have their preference changed based on reverse order of seniority. The finalized Christmas/New Year’s schedule will be posted no later than November 1st of each year. e. Where an employee requests not to be scheduled off three (3) or five (5) consecutive days at Christmas or New Year’s, such an employee is to put their request in writing to the supervisor. The provisions of this Article do not apply to employees working on units that are not required to work Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
Christmas Schedules. In general, Registered Respiratory Therapist will alternate their scheduled days off for Christmas or New Year's on an alternating yearly basis. For example, a Registered Respiratory Therapist who was off for Christmas one (1) year would be expected to be off for New Year's the next year, unless mutually agreed upon by the Manager and all Registered Respiratory Therapists have had their holiday needs met. The Hospital will schedule the Registered Respiratory Therapist off a minimum of five (5) consecutive days and will endeavour to schedule them off up to seven (7) consecutive days at either Christmas or New Year’s. Christmas shall be defined as any tour which commences on December 24th, 25th and 26th. New Year's shall be defined as any tour that commences on December 31st, January 1st and January 2nd. It is an expectation that all Registered Respiratory Therapists work the entire three (3) days of the holiday in which they are scheduled. Part-time must submit availability that includes all three (3) days for the holiday in which they are to be scheduled. Failure to schedule a minimum of five (5) days off during the Christmas prime time period will result in premium pay to the affected Registered Respiratory Therapist. The schedule covering the Christmas and New Year's period will be posted on November 15th of each year. The Christmas and New Year's schedule will cover shifts between the start of the pay period that include December 15th to the end of the pay period that include January 15th. The Union agrees that the normal scheduling patterns will be waived during this holiday period to accommodate the five (5) days off. Registered Respiratory Therapists that work in departments that are closed over Christmas and New Year’s, may be required to work or take call during the closure. The Hospital will schedule the Registered Respiratory Therapists off a minimum of five (5) consecutive days and will endeavour to schedule them off up to seven (7) consecutive days at either Christmas or New Year’s. Provisions of 13.07 and 13.08 may be required to be waived for the Christmas period. Registered Respiratory Therapists who wish to maintain their exact current schedule during the Christmas period will communicate this request to their manager no later than October 1st.   • Shift Schedules 1501 Shift schedules for a minimum of a four (4) week period shall be posted at least two (2) weeks in advance of the beginning of the scheduled period. Shifts within the minimum four (4) week period shall not be altered after posting except by mutual agreement between the nurse(s) concerned and the Employer. Requests for specific days off duty shall be submitted in writing at least two (2) weeks prior to posting and granted, if possible in the judgment of the Employer. 1502 Requests for interchanges in posted shifts or a portion thereof shall also be submitted in writing, co-signed by the nurse willing to exchange shifts with the applicant. Where reasonably possible, interchanges in posted shifts are to be completed within the posted shift schedule. It is understood that any change in shifts or days off initiated by the nurses and approved by the Employer shall not result in overtime costs to the Employer. 1503 Night shift shall be considered as the first shift of each calendar day. 1504 Master rotations for each nursing unit shall be planned by the Employer in meaningful consultation with the nurse(s) concerned. The process for meaningful consultation shall include:  Employer proposes a master rotation including the Employer established criteria and provides to Nurses concerned  Nurses are provided reasonable time to submit feedback and/or an alternate master rotation for consideration.  The amended or new master rotation is provided to Nurses for review. Nurses are provided with a reasonable time to submit feedback.  At each step of the consultation process the Union will be provided with the new or revised master rotation to ensure contract compliance.  Employer has the sole discretion to select the new master rotation and provides rationale for the selection. Master Rotations shall, unless otherwise mutually agreed between the nurse(s) concerned and the Employer, observe the conditions listed hereinafter: (a) a minimum of fifteen hours (15) off between assigned shifts.
