Continuing Appointments. A Continuing appointment signifies the right of a Member to continuous employment that may be terminated only through the mechanisms provided in Article 8.
Continuing Appointments. An academic librarian may be given a continuing appointment independent of rank or classification. The decision concerning a continuing appointment shall be made in the best interests of the University and the academic librarian, and shall reflect the written annual reviews referred to in s. 17.A.4.2 above. A continuing appointment may be terminated only as provided in this Agreement.
Continuing Appointments. (a) A full-time faculty member shall not be converted involuntarily to part-time without mutual agreement among the member, the Union and the College. A full-time faculty member assigned to a continuing part-time contract will maintain accumulated seniority and shall continue to accrue seniority on a prorated basis.
(b) In the event that a full-time faculty member who has voluntarily converted to continuing part-time wishes to revert to a full-time appointment he/she can only do so if there is a full-time vacancy in the area of his/her expertise or if there was an agreement made specifying the years of part-time employment prior to the member becoming part-time.
Continuing Appointments. (a) A Faculty Member who has successfully completed a probationary appointment shall automatically receive a continuing appointment at the same or higher percentage of employment as on the probationary contract.
(b) A full-time Faculty Member may be assigned to a continuing part-time contract without loss of accumulated seniority and shall continue to accumulate seniority on a prorated basis.
(c) A Faculty Member with a continuing part-time appointment shall be granted first refusal for increased employment in the same department, when, in the judgment of the Xxxx, in consultation with faculty and the Chair, he/she is fully qualified to perform the duties comprising the additional workload. Should more than one (1) continuing part-time Faculty Member be qualified for the increased employment, the work will be assigned to the Faculty Member judged to be best qualified for the duties involved in the additional workload.
(d) Transition from Term Appointments to Probationary or Continuing Appointments.
(i) He/she must have been appointed to a term position through the normal school selection procedures in effect at the time of his/her appointment.
(ii) He/she must have completed a minimum appointment in each of two (2) semesters or three (3) quarters in each of two (2) consecutive years. The minimum appointment has two required elements:
1. Employment of at least twelve (12) weeks in a semester or at least nine
Continuing Appointments. Continuing appointment is defined as appointment with no end date, unless just cause for termination exists or the Xxxx determines that the work performed by the individual will not be performed in the college/school by a non-tenure- track faculty member.
a. Reappointments before continuing appointment is achieved shall be at the discretion of the Xxxx (upon recommendation of the Department Chair), who shall consider such factors as performance, need for the individual’s services, availability of funding, and ongoing maintenance of licensure/certification (when required by respective accrediting and governance bodies). Non-reappointment during this same time period shall not be grievable. Any reappointment made after the faculty member reaches the service mark specified in 21.9.2.b shall be a continuing appointment as specified in this section, except where 21.9.1.g applies.
b. Upon completion of three years of continuous full-time-equivalent service at 50% time or more, with no more than two (2) semesters at less than half time and no more than one semester at zero time, NTT faculty shall become eligible for reappointment to continuing appointments with no termination date. Full-time non-tenure-track faculty members on one-semester appointments, for example, shall be deemed to have met the three-year service threshold after six semesters of appointments. Periods of either authorized leave or professional development leave (as described in 21.13.4) shall not count as breaks in FTE service towards continuing appointment but shall not accrue FTE service towards continuing appointment. Upon recommendation by the Department Chair, and after a xxxx’x review based on such factors as performance, need for the individual’s services, availability of funding, and ongoing maintenance of licensure/certification (when required by respective accrediting and governance bodies), the xxxx determines whether the non-tenure-track faculty member should be offered a continuing appointment. In the case of a positive decision, the administration will extend an offer of continuing appointment at 50% or more time. In the case of a negative decision, the xxxx will give the non-tenure-track faculty member written notice of non-reappointment in accordance with the chart in 21.9.1. The terms of Article 21.9.2 shall not apply to spousal appointments that are effective on or after September 1, 2009, to whom this provision shall apply after six rather than three years of continuous full-...
Continuing Appointments. (a) A Continuing Appointment may be offered only to Instructional and Administrative Associates. During the first twenty-four (24) months of a Continuing Appointment as an Instructional Associate or Administrative Associate, the member is on probation. This probationary period shall include service under term contracts, if applicable. Applicants for a continuing appointment shall prepare a dossier documenting their academic and professional records in terms of the qualifications by rank outlined in Article 8 and in Appendices C or D. An applicant’s dossier may, at the applicant’s discretion, include performance evaluations and student evaluations. The dossier shall be submitted to the applicant’s Department no later than the 20th month of the probationary period (and normally no earlier than the 19th month). By the twenty-fourth (24th) month, the Department shall review the member using just and equitable procedures and shall recommend to the Xxxx/Director whether the appointment should continue. As per Article 18 (item 5), a decision to terminate the appointment can be made on expiration of the probationary period of the appointment following a recommendation of the Department to that effect. If this negative recommendation is made after the twenty-first (21st) month of the probationary period, the member shall receive three (3) months’ notice or pay in lieu of notice.
(b) In exceptional circumstances (which may include maternity, illness or special leave during the probationary period, as well as a Department’s belief that it has insufficient data to review the member adequately at the conclusion of a twenty- four (24) month period), the probationary period may be extended by up to twelve
Continuing Appointments. A Continuing Appointment may be offered only to Instructional and Administrative Associates. During the first twenty-four (24) months of a Continuing Appointment as an Instructional Associate or Administrative Associate, the member is on probation. By the twenty-fourth (24th) month, the Department shall review the member using just and equitable procedures and shall recommend to the Xxxx/Director whether the appointment should continue. If a decision to terminate the appointment is made after the twenty-first (21st) month, there shall be three (3) months notice or pay in lieu of notice.
Continuing Appointments. Notice of non-reappointment before August 15 at the end of the third year, shall be at the Xxxx’x discretion and shall not be grievable. After three years of continuous full-time-equivalent service, with no break in service (as defined in Art. 21.11) greater than one semester, NTT faculty shall be reappointed to continuing appointments without a termination date except under the followingcircumstances:
(a) Just cause exists for termination or non-reappointment.
(b) The Xxxx determines that the work performed by the individual will not be performed in the college/school by a non-tenure track faculty member.
(c) The Administration has given the faculty member written notice of non- reappointment beyond the fourth year of full-time-equivalent service no later than August 15 prior to the start of that fourth academic year if the appointment expires at the end of that year, or at least twelve months in advance of its termination if an appointment terminates during the fourth academic year. Full-time non-tenure track faculty members on one-semester appointments shall be deemed to have met the three-year service threshold after six semesters of appointments during which there are no breaks in service of more than one semester at atime. The terms of Article 21.9.2 shall not apply to departmental programs in the Departments of Music and Dance and Mathematics and Statistics that are explicitly designed to bring to campus faculty members and/or working professionals for short-term assignments, nor to spousal appointments that are effective on or after September 1, 2009, to whom this provision shall apply after six rather than three years of continuous full-time equivalent service.
Continuing Appointments. A regular employee who has successfully completed their probationary appointment through satisfactory evaluation pursuant to Article 10 shall receive a continuing appointment.
Continuing Appointments. All provisions of Article 21.9.2 shall apply to faculty members with clinical nursing titles who have appointments of 50% FTE or greater with the following qualification: A continuing appointment shall not be awarded solely on the grounds of reappointment, but rather a continuing appointment must result from a successful review in the academic year in which the fourth FTE year of service will be achieved. To receive a continuing appointment in his/her current rank, the individual must demonstrate convincing evidence of: • Sustained effectiveness in clinical instruction and in related aspects of teaching, such as curriculum development; • For faculty in the progressive ranks, sustained achievement in scholarship (as nursing scholarship is defined by AACN); • Ongoing maintenance of nursing licensure/certification (when such licensure/certification was a condition of hiring or when required by respective accrediting bodies or by applicable governmental entities) nursing practice, and – if applicable – advanced practice certification; • Promise of future professional development and achievement; and sustained contributions in service.
