Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. The parties agree that the intent of this agreement is to ensure that all employees shall have the maximum possible access to the Occupational Health and Safety Committee structure. Local Occupational Health and Safety Committees will be established and operated as outlined below:
(a) Union representatives shall be employees at the workplace appointed by the Union, and employer representatives shall be appointed by the Employer.
(b) The Committees will function in accordance with the regulations made pursuant to the Workers Compensation Act, and will participate in developing a program to reduce risk of occupational injury and illness. All minutes of the meetings of the Committees shall be recorded on a mutually agreed to form and shall be sent to the Union and the Employer.
(1) Each ministry shall initiate and maintain, at the regular place of employment, Local Occupational Health and Safety Committees where there is:
(i) a workforce of 10 or more workers in an operation or work area classified as "A" (high) or "B" (medium) hazard by WCB First Aid Regulations, or
(ii) a workforce of 25 or more workers in an operation or work area classified as "C" (low) hazard by WCB First Aid Regulations.
(iii) Where ministry workforce numbers are less than the minimum requirements of (i) and (ii), local committees may be established to encompass more than one worksite within a headquarters or geographic location. Such committees shall respect ministry administrative management areas. Worksite combinations may be mutually agreed at the local level. Where mutual agreement cannot be reached at the local level, then either party may refer the matter to the Provincial Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee established in Clause 22.2.
(iv) Notwithstanding (iii) above, Local Occupational Health and Safety Committees may, by mutual agreement between the designated representatives of the parties, extend the jurisdictional area for committee representation.
(2) At any worksite where a committee has not been established pursuant to (1) above, a less formal program shall be maintained in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, Part 3, Section 3.
Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. (1) The Employer shall initiate and maintain, at the regular place of employment, local occupational health and safety committees as required by the Workers Compensation Act.
(2) Local occupational health and safety committees may encompass more than one component.
(d) Employees who are representatives of the Committee shall not suffer any loss of basic pay for the time spent attending a committee meeting, job site inspection or accident investigation in accordance with WCB Regulations.
(e) Committee meetings shall be scheduled during normal working hours whenever practicable. Time spent by designated committee members attending meetings held on their days of rest or outside their regularly scheduled hours of work shall not be considered time worked, but such committee members shall receive equivalent time off at straight-time.
(f) Other committee business in accordance with (d) above shall be scheduled during normal working hours whenever practicable. When no other union designated committee member or union designated employee is available, time spent by employees attending to this committee business on their days of rest or outside their regularly scheduled hours of work shall not be considered time worked but such employees shall receive equivalent time off at straight-time.
Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. The Company and the Union agree to establish Occupational Health and Safety Committees at appropriate locations. Occupational Health and Safety Committees shall be composed of personnel employed at the location. The composition will be determined locally through management and local union representatives. Union representatives shall be appointed by the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union. These committees will meet, at regular intervals to be determined by the committees, to make recommendations on unsafe, hazardous, or dangerous conditions with the aim of preventing and reducing risk of occupational injury and illness. A copy of all minutes of the Occupational Health and Safety Committees shall be sent to the Union and the Company. Team members who are representatives on the Occupational Health and Safety Committee shall continue to receive the rate of pay they would have been receiving had they not been attending Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings. Team members attending these committee meetings held on their days of rest or outside their regularly scheduled hours of work shall receive pay at straight-time rates equivalent to the duration of the meeting. This time shall not be considered time worked.

Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. (a) The Employer and the Union shall establish a Safety Committee to be composed of Union and Employer representatives. The Union representatives shall be selected by the Union and such representatives must be in the employ of the Employer. The Committee shall meet at least once a month to discuss questions or problems which may arise with respect to the health and safety of the employees. All minutes of the meetings of the committee shall be recorded on a mutually agreed to form and shall be sent to the Union and the Employer.
(b) Safety Committees will be structured as provided in Appendix 6 to this Agreement. Local Toolbox safety meetings will meet monthly, and forward minutes to the Joint Labour/Management Committee for review and action where necessary.
(c) Employees who are representatives of the Committee shall not suffer any loss of basic pay for the time spent attending a Committee meeting, job site inspection or accident investigation in accordance with the Workers’ Compensation Board Regulations. Transportation shall be provided by the Employer.
(d) Committee meetings shall be scheduled during normal working hours whenever practicable. Time spent by designated Committee members attending to the Committee business or accident investigation on their days of rest or outside their regularly scheduled hours of work shall not be considered time worked but such employees shall receive equivalent time off at straight-time.
(e) The Employer and the Union agree that it is mutually beneficial to have all members in attendance at meetings of Health and Safety Committees. The Employer shall make every reasonable effort to ensure that the Union members are able to attend such meetings.
Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. The parties agree that the intent of this Agreement is to ensure that all employees shall have the maximum possible access to the Occupational Health and Safety Committee structure. To this end, a Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee will be established as required by WCB Regulations and will operate as outlined below:
(a) The Committee shall consist of an equal number of worker representatives (including UWU members) and BCGEU representatives.
(b) The Committee will function in accordance with the Workers' Compensation Act and will participate in developing a program to reduce risk of occupational injury and illness. All minutes of the meetings of the Committees shall be recorded on a mutually agreed to form and shall be sent to the Union and the BCGEU.
(c) Unresolved issues from worksites without a Safety Committee may be referred to the Headquarters Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee for consideration.
(d) Employees who are representatives of the Joint Committee shall not suffer any loss of basic pay for time spent attending Committee meetings , or in carrying out other duties in accordance with WCB Regulations.
(e) Committee meetings, training and other Committee business shall be scheduled during normal working hours whenever practicable.
Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. (a) The Employer and the Union shall establish a Safety Committee to be composed of Union and Employer representatives. The Union representatives shall be selected by the Union and such representatives must be in the employ of the Employer. (e) The Employer and the Union agree that it is mutually beneficial to have all members in attendance at meetings of Health and Safety Committees. The Employer shall make every reasonable effort to ensure that the Union members are able to attend such meetings.
(f) Occupational Health and Safety Committees will be structured as follows:
Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. (a) The Senior Joint Health and Safety Committee shall be comprised of seven members from each party. The Employer shall supply secretarial services to the Committee.
(b) Regional Occupational Health and Safety Committees shall be established within the following six areas of the Employer’s operation:
1. Mainland Services South;
2. Mainland Services Central;
3. Northern Services;
4. Inter-Island Services North;
5. Inter-Island Services South; and
6. Xxxx Dock Operations
(c) The composition of these Regional Occupational Health and Safety Committees shall be comprised of up to four Management and four Union representatives. Union representatives shall be elected from within the local work units and shall represent as broad a range of work categories as practicable.
(d) Local Shore and Ship Occupational Health and Safety Committees shall be maintained to Workers’ Compensation Board standards.
(e) The Committees shall meet at least once a month.
(f) Committee minutes of the Senior and each Regional Occupational Health and Safety Committee shall be copied to the parties.
(g) The recommendations of all Committees shall be fully considered.
Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. (a) The joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees at each operating site location shall consist of:
1. up to four (4) Management Representatives;
2. up to eleven (11) employees selected by the Union to represent
3. only four (4) employees selected in accordance with number two (2) above shall attend any regular scheduled Committee meeting. It is intended that employee members be selected by the employee Co-Chairperson to enable representation from different departments and from various tours of work. The selection should be done in a way to avoid unnecessary overtime. However, for purposes of continuity two
(b) Committee members shall not suffer any loss of pay while performing their duties as members of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee. Overtime rates will be paid for time spent outside of their regular work schedule.
(c) Committee members will notify their Supervisor as far in advance as possible before leaving their job to attend to Occupational Health and Safety Committee matters. The parties agree that in emergency situations such notification may be waived.
