Limited Term Appointment. 20.02.01 A limited term appointment is for a stated period of time and carries no implication of renewal or continuation beyond the stated term and no implication that the appointee shall be considered for a continuing appointment. 20.02.02 A limited term appointment may be made to: (A) provide a replacement for a member on leave; (B) meet specific Library needs of limited duration; or (C) fill a position for which there has been inadequate opportunity to conduct a satisfactory search for a probationary appointee. 20.02.03 The total consecutive years a member may serve on limited term appointment(s) shall not exceed two years without the agreement of the Association, except where the limited term appointment(s) is funded entirely from granting agencies external to the University. In this latter instance, the total consecutive years a member may serve in a limited term capacity shall not exceed the duration of the external funding without the agreement of the Association. 20.02.04 In addition to the information provided to the Association pursuant to 12.01, the Board shall inform the Association of the period and purpose of any limited term appointment.

Limited Term Appointment. 14.6.1 A Limited Term Appointment is a full-time position, and carries no implication of renewal or continuation beyond the contractually limited term. A person holding such an appointment may apply for a Provisional, Candidacy or Continuing Appointment if such a position is available. 14.6.2 When the University makes a Limited Term Appointment, the Vice-President: Academic shall inform the Association within 10 days of making the appointment stating the reason. The reasons for making Limited Term Appointments are as follows: (a) to meet temporary needs created when a Librarian Member is on leave or temporarily transferred to another duty within the University; (b) to appoint a librarian who holds a Continuing Appointment at another institution, and who is therefore designated as "Visiting"; (c) to appoint a librarian for a specific project of fixed duration; (d) to provide for specific Library needs which, for budgetary or professional reasons, the University does not wish to result in a Continuing Appointment; (e) for appointments based upon provisional funding or activities of a trial nature. 14.6.3 Limited Term Appointments may be made for periods of up to 24 months. 14.6.4 When a subsequent Limited Term Appointment is granted, the Librarian Member shall not be assigned a rank lower than the rank of his/her previous appointment. Subject to 14.6.1, when a Librarian Member on Limited Term Appointment receives a new Limited Term Appointment for all or part of the next academic year, the Member shall receive adjustments in compensation pursuant to Article 30. 14.6.5 Effective upon ratification of this Agreement, a Librarian Member shall serve for no more than four consecutive years in Limited Term Appointments. This category of limited-term appointments shall not be used for the appointment of Chairs. 4.4.5 A Limited-term Employee subsequently appointed as a Tenurable Employee may apply to have up to two years of limited-term (formerly term-certain) appointment credited towards the probationary period, as outlined in Article 10.

Limited Term Appointment. An appointment for a specified period of time with a definite beginning date and definite ending date. A person may not have a limited term appointment simultaneously with any other type of appointment. A limited term appointment may not be held for more than 9 (nine) months in any consecutive 12 (twelve) month period. A person holding a Limited Term Appointment will be eligible to receive County of Mono benefits except people employed less than 6 months or 960 hours shall not receive PERS retirement or healthcare benefits. At the discretion of the County of Mono, a person having successfully completed a limited term appointment period will be eligible for re- appointment as a limited term within the limitations described above. Employees in this category are at-will. The County shall not use limited-term appointments to replace permanent full-time employees.
