Probationary Period - New Employees. Any new employee shall be employed on a sixty (60) day probationary basis, during which time he/she may be discharged without recourse; provided, however, that this probationary period will be automatically extended an additional thirty (30) days after written notice to the Union and the employee of such extension and the reason therefore. After the probationary period, he/she shall be placed on the seniority list and his/her seniority shall then date from the first day of his/her current period of employment.

Probationary Period - New Employees. All new employees shall be considered probationary employees until they complete a probationary period of one (1) year. The Union shall not grieve any matter relating to the probationary employee. The probationary period is to be used to test further the ability of the employee to perform the required duties of the position successfully. If the employee fails to meet the required standards of performance or conduct, he is to be dismissed.

Employment during this probationary period and the recommendation for employment beyond this probationary period shall be vested solely in and at the discretion of the School District. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, the employee shall attain permanent status subject to the following: 1. Employees on permanent status may be dismissed only for cause. 2. The School District shall follow a course of progressive discipline as appropriate for the offense. 3. The School District has the right to impose disciplinary actions on employees for just cause including suspension and dismissal.

An employee changing positions (bid) will serve a thirty (30) day trial / probation period. (b) This probationary period shall be for the purpose of determining an employee's suitability for permanent employment. At any time during this period employment may be terminated if it can be satisfactorily shown the employee is unsuitable for employment. (c) Suitability for employment will be decided on the basis of factors such as: (i) The quality of work. (ii) Ability to work harmoniously with others. (iii) Conduct. (iv) Ability to meet firefighting standards set by the Corporation. (d) Where a probationary employee is absent for ten (10) or more working days during the probationary period, the probationary period shall be extended by the total number of days absent with no loss of seniority.
