Staff Development and Training. Staff development and training shall be at the discretion of the Director of Nutrition Services and shall be considered as mandatory when scheduled throughout the year. Mandatory staff development and training scheduled outside of the employee’s regular work day will be compensated at the appropriate rate as outlined in Articles 10 and 11. Employees required to attend such training shall be given at least two (2) weeks’ notice of the training.

Staff Development and Training. The parties agree that all employees be properly trained in their duties pertaining to their employment. Employees will be eligible to receive training that is offered. The Employer will pay all costs associated with the training including instructional time at straight time rates, course materials, and mileage.

(a) Where the Employer makes available in-house training courses, and the course occurs during an employee’s regularly scheduled hours of work, employees who wish to attend may do so during working hours, with no loss of pay, provided permission of the employee’s Director is obtained; or (b) Where the Employer requires an employee to take an in-house training course provided by the Employer, and the training occurs during an employee’s regularly scheduled hours of work, the employee shall be able to attend with no loss of pay. (c) Where employees are required by the Employer to recertify for CPR or a non- violent crisis intervention course that is scheduled outside the normal hours of work, the Employer shall pay the employee for two (2) hours at the employee’s regular rate of pay.

To that end the District may authorize employee development activities such as classroom observation or visitation, employee workshops and educational meetings. In order to determine which workshops, conferences, seminars, etc. can be attended by staff members, the following selection process shall be used:

To that end, the District may from time to time authorize employee development activities such as classroom observation or visitation, employee workshops and educational meetings. Release time of one day may be made available upon prior approval of the building administrator, subject to the availability of a substitute, to any employee who wishes to observe another classroom or attend a meeting or workshop. As part of the District’s existing late start schedule for professional development, one late start session per quarter will be used to enter grades and complete other end-of-quarter requirements. The Association President and Superintendent will meet in May to set the late start grading sessions.
