Administration of Vacation Leave. The City Manager, upon the recommendation of the Department Director, may advance vacation credits to any permanent regular and permanent part-time employee. No employee may accrue more than 250 hours. Vacation accruals will resume once the employee’s accumulated vacation balance falls below the allowable cap limit. The time at which an employee may use his/her accrued vacation leave and the amount to be taken at any one time, shall be determined by employee's Department Director with particular regard for the needs of the City but also, insofar as possible, considering the wishes of the employee. The Maximum amount of vacation leave that may be taken at any given time shall be that amount that has accrued to the employee concerned, subject to the Department Director’s approval. The minimum amount of vacation that may be taken at any given time shall be one- half (1/2) hour (except that as permitted by law, the City shall authorize the use of vacation time in smaller increments to coordinate disability or workers compensation leaves with employee accrued paid time). Vacation leave granted by the City and used by an employee shall be deducted from the employee’s vacation leave bank. In the event that one or more City holidays falls within an annual vacation leave, such holiday shall not be charged as vacation leave, and the vacation leave shall be extended accordingly. Employees who terminate their employment shall be paid in a lump sum for all accrued vacation leave earned prior to the effective date of termination. Employees may request a temporary waiver of their vacation cap, should a work-related injury prevent use of vacation time. Such requests would need to be in writing, submitted through the department, and receive the approval of the Department Director and the City Manager.
