High School Day. 1. Teachers shall be assigned six (6) periods (instructional, academic, intervention/assistance, or duty) every year. Of that total five (5) will be graded instructional assignments or a period requiring instructional preparation. 2. Members may volunteer to teach a sixth course in lieu of a duty assignment. Members who volunteer to teach a sixth course will be compensated by supplemental contract at .80 of the supplemental schedule for a full year course and .40 of the supplemental schedule for a semester course based on a 50-minute class period. Classes less than 50 minutes will be prorated. A sixth class constitutes the teaching of six separate class periods. 3. Duties related to Continuous Improvement/school improvement requirements may be assigned by the building principal. Reasonable efforts will be made to assign staff on an equitable basis to instructional and non-instructional duty. Members may switch duties with their colleagues with the approval of the administration. Cafeteria duty will be rotated every semester. 4. A performance-based job description has been adopted for the high school department chairperson. 5. Members shall receive one (1) period of continuous personal planning time equal to the length of one instructional period.
High School Day a. The NHS schedule will operate in the traditional A-B block format, with Monday and Wednesdays generally being “A” days and Tuesdays and Thursdays generally being “B” days. Fridays will generally be a “C” day in which all classes meet for a shorter period than “A or B” days. Employee’s lunch period on “C” days may be shortened if necessary to accommodate student instructional minutes but shall not be less than 35 minutes. If an adjusted schedule is necessary on a particular day(s) that may cause the employee lunch to be shorter, modifications will be determined between the building administrator and the Association building representatives. b. Each full time employee will be responsible for teaching six periods of 90 minutes or less in an A/B day cycle, with shorter periods on C days. In addition, employees will be responsible for monitoring students and/or providing assistance in the Seminar periods c. Employees whose assignment is to work between levels (high school-middle school-elementary) may experience a varied or longer work day due to starting at one level and ending at another. In the event an employee has elected such a schedule to gain FTE or avoid loss of FTE, these variations shall not be subject to the grievance arbitration process. d. Each employee will have a preparation/collegial period on either A days or B days, and a shorter preparation period on C days. This time can be used for developing block-teaching strategies and/or for collaborative planning with other members of the staff. It is understood that preparation time, exclusive of the lunch hour, and except as specified in Section E of this Article, is generally time when the employee is not involved with the direct supervision of students, except in an emergency. e. Seminar will be first period during which teachers will implement a blended instruction model. The teachers’ responsibilities for supporting students during seminar will include assessing their students’ completion of the blended modules which are required for seminar credit. Within seminar, each employee shall offer reinforcement, appropriate intervention or enhancement activities related to the curriculum, and based on the needs of students. The content of the blended seminar modules will continue to be developed through the Office of Instruction, in consultation with representatives from the NHS staff, in advance of each quarter. f. High School Day. In high schools, the regular school day for assigned teaching, planning and consultation functions shall be exactly seven (7) hours and fifteen (15) minutes, which shall include a fifty-five (55) minute duty-free lunch. Beginning with the 2003-2004 school year, the high school duty period will be eliminated.
High School Day a. The high school teachers' workweek shall be no longer than 32 hours and 25 minutes (32:25) per week exclusive of lunch. b. The lunch period for teachers at the high school shall be not less than forty (40) minutes per day. c. The above does not include faculty and/or departmental meetings. Faculty meetings shall not exceed ten (10) per year, exclusive of emergency meetings.

High School teachers will have a seven and one-half (7-1/2) hour day consisting of six (6) teaching periods, one and one-half (1-1/2) planning periods and one-half (1/2) hour duty free lunch period. There will be no more than three (3) preparations for any teacher unless the parties agree otherwise. Inclusion as a preparation shall be referred to the Legal Mandates Committee. 3. No high school teacher, except for physical education and music, will have more than 156 students per day and principals in conjunction with the superintendent, will make every effort to equalize class size. 4. In September of each year the building principal will meet with the CPEA building representative at her/his request to review and discuss duty assignments for that year.

Related to High School Day

  • School Day The school day for members of the bargaining unit shall not exceed seven and one-half (7½) hours of consecutive time which shall include a duty-free, uninterrupted lunch period of no less than thirty (30) minutes.

  • High School At the request of the Superintendent, a high school teacher may volunteer on a semester basis to teach all the student contact time and be paid one sixth (1/6) of his/her salary for the semester. This section shall not be used to circumvent the hiring of additional full time teachers.

  • Length of School Day 4.4.1 For each school the length of the “school day” shall be determined according to the requirement that students are normally required to be in attendance for two HD, one before noon, the other after noon. 4.4.2 The normal teaching load in respect of any one day is therefore related to that requirement and takes account of the normal timetabling practices of each school.

  • School Year Teacher assignable time will be capped at 1200 hours per school year.

  • School Calendar The Dual Credit course schedule will be determined by the location of the course delivery, provided that the required contact hours and prerequisites are met. The instructional calendar for the high school portion of the School will be based on the School District calendar and comply with all related TEA regulations for school attendance. The School District will adjust its schedule as necessary to enable Students to enroll in and attend the college- level courses provided by College. The School District and College will coordinate the State Student assessment requirements to ensure said assessments are administered without penalty. The School District, School and College will ensure that the School calendar accounts for the required per-semester contact hours for courses. When the instructional delivery is on the College site, it may be necessary for Students to attend classes on days when the School District is closed (e.g., different holiday closures). When Students take classes at the College scheduled on days when School is closed, the School District will ensure that at least one staff member with administrative authority be on call and available to be reached by the College’s Office of High School Programs or other College staff in case of emergency. The designated School staff member will have access to Student emergency contact information. While the College agrees to make scheduling accommodations for required State assessments, including the STAAR and End of Course Exams, all contact hour requirements must be met. For assessments not mandated by the State, the College and School District will come to a mutual agreement on administration dates in order to appropriately manage disruptions of college courses and ensure contact hour requirements are met.

  • High Winds (i) The occurrence of high winds, whilst constituting ‘inclement weather’ affecting some work processes, does not give rise to an entitlement for any Employee whose work is suspended to leave the site and be paid. Payment will not be made for time so lost. The provisions of clauses 30.4 and 30.5 do not apply to the time any work is suspended due to the effects of high wind.

  • ALTERNATE SCHOOL CALENDAR 1. In this article, an alternative school calendar is a school calendar that differs from the standard school calendar as specified in Schedule 1 (Supplement) of the School Calendar Regulation 114/02. 2. When a school district intends to implement an alternate school calendar, written notification shall be provided to the local no later than forty (40) working days prior to its implementation. The employer and the local shall meet within five (5) working days following receipt of such notice to negotiate modifications to the provisions of the agreement that are directly or indirectly affected by the proposed change(s). The aforesaid modifications shall preserve, to the full legal extent possible, the original intent of the agreement. 3. The process outlined below in Article D.6.4 through Article D.

  • Middle School At the request of the Superintendent, a middle school teacher may volunteer on a semester basis to teach all the student contact time and be paid one-sixth (1/6) of his/her salary for the semester. This section shall not be used to circumvent the hiring of additional full time teachers.

  • Summer School SUCCESS employees are not eligible for this provision. Employees engaged in teaching summer school shall be granted two summer school days of absence in a single term for either sick leave or emergency leave, or a combination of both, non-accumulative.

  • Elementary School At the request of the Superintendent, elementary school teachers that teach all the student contact time on a daily basis will be paid for an additional hour at an hourly rate based upon their contractual daily rate of pay for a maximum of 180 days. Teachers will not be required to spend additional time beyond their regular day. All scheduling options must have been exhausted before an administrator will receive permission for this variance. The appeal process for this variance is defined in the Staffing Plan.
