INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS. ‌ Where for employment equity or work experience program purposes the University intends to establish a position within the scope of the bargaining unit, there must be mutual agreement regarding the creation and terms of the assignment including rates of pay before it can proceed. The internship will be classified as either a casual or temporary assignment under the terms of this agreement. Internship positions will be in addition to the department or unit’s existing regular full time and part time positions. In no case will the hiring of a intern result in the termination, layoff, or reduction of scheduled hours of a regular employee. Appointments of interns are time limited and/or subject to the availability of specific grant funding.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS. 36.01 The Employer and the Guild agree that internship opportunities may be offered to qualified students. The purpose is to further the education of the individuals, to provide them with work experience, to familiarize them with The Canadian Press and to encourage qualified applicants to seek employment with The Canadian Press after graduation. Participants in the internship program must be enrolled in an appropriate educational institution, such as a journalism school, that has a requirement a period of internship prior to graduation. 36.02 Internships will be handled as follows: (a) Internships shall not exceed six weeks unless there is a bona fide educational requirement and the Guild agrees to the term. (b) Participants in internship programs will not be considered employees for the purposes of this Agreement. No dues will be deducted as per Article 2. None of the provisions of the Collective Agreement will apply to participants in internship programs, with the exception of this article, Article 36. (c) Participants in internship programs shall be supernumerary to existing employees and shall not be used to fill a vacant position or replace an employee absent for illness, vacation or other reason, except as outlined in Article 36.03. Internship programs shall not be used to the detriment of existing employees. (d) Participants in internship programs shall receive an honorarium of $100 for each full week of participation. (e) In the event of a strike or lockout, all internship programs shall be terminated for the duration of such strike or lockout. 36.03 If a participant in an internship program is assigned to replace an existing employee for a shift, due to illness or any other reason, he or she shall be paid at the appropriate starting rate for that position and treated in accordance with Article 32 (Temporary Employees) for the duration of such replacement.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS. The recipient should plan and manage an undergraduate summer internship program for disadvantaged minority students that emphasizes the two categories of specialization: Category I—training in biostatistics and epidemiology where plans will be developed to train students at CDC Centers, Institute, and Offices (CIOs) and other locations as appropriate, and Category IIoccupational safety and health where plans will be developed to train students in the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) laboratories. Examples of activities that may be undertaken, include, but are not limited to the following:

Further to the provisions of Article 27.13, the Human Resources department will distribute position descriptions for all positions covered by the CUPE Local 951 certification within 6 months of ratification of the Collective Agreement. A Critical Skill Market Adjustment will be applied to Technician and Nurse positions established and evaluated at Pay Bands 10 through 14 under the Joint Job Evaluation Plan in accordance with the Table below. This Table will be incorporated into the Collective Agreement as Salary Schedule 'B'. The existing Salary Schedule will be renamed Salary Schedule 'A'. Further to the changes to Article 28.02 (c),
