Leave for Child Care. A. Employees may request leave without pay for a period up to twelve (12) months for child care. The department head may grant such leave of absence in accordance with the general rules and practices concerning leaves of absence without pay, the circumstances of the case, the needs of the agency, etc. Leave shall not exceed twelve (12) months unless for good reason an extension of time is authorized by the Director of Personnel Services.

Leave for Child Care. A supporting services employee may use sick leave for disabilities related to pregnancy and return to her same position as soon as she is medically able. An eligible employee may request a short-term or long-term childcare leave without pay.

The use of this maximum allowance will be limited to one instance only. Confinement and child care leave is leave without pay. Prior to the commencement of such leave an employee may at his/her option be continued in pay status for a period of time equal to all of the employee's unused accrued annual leave. A pregnant employee shall have the option to be continued in pay status for a period of time equal to all or part of her period of disability using accrued sick leave or annual leave.
Leave for Child Care. A leave of absence for child care up to twelve (12) weeks in any twelve (12) consecutive calendar month period shall be granted by the University upon request. If such leave is granted, the employee shall first use accumulated vacation, unused service days, personal holiday, and compensatory time off, as applicable prior to commencement of no pay status for the balance of the leave. A leave taken concurrently or on an overlapping basis by both parents employed by the University shall not exceed, in the aggregate, a period of twelve (12) weeks.

The term common-law partner includes same-sex partner. An employee be granted bereavement leave of up to three (3) days with pay from his scheduled tours of duty that occur during the five (5) days immediately following the day of death, in the event of the death of: his father, his mother, the spouse or common-law partner of his father or mother; his brother, his sister; the father or mother of his spouse or common-law partner or the spouse or common-law partner of the father or mother; a dependant or other relative residing in the same permanent residence as does the employee; the child of his spouse or common-law partner.
