Leave of Absence for Union Duties i) Each leave of absence is at the discretion of the Fire Chief; however, approval shall not be unreasonably withheld.
Leave of Absence for Union Duties. An employee who is elected or appointed to an office with the Union shall, upon application in writing by the Union to the Clerk-Treasurer, be granted leave of absence, without pay, for a period of three (3) months. Upon similar application by the Union within the period of such leave, the employee shall be granted an extension thereof upon similar terms.

Included within the overall leaves, the Employer agrees to allow a leave of absence for one employee for Union duties, provided that the employer receives at least one week’s notice and provided proper coverage at straight time wages can be arranged. The employees on such leave(s) will be paid by the Employer who will be reimbursed fully by the Union for the amount paid to the employees for wages, statutory benefits and pension.

Upon written authority from the Local Union, the Company will pay the employee's regular pay for the absence and the Local Union will reimburse the Company for such payments. An Employee who is selected for a position with the Union shall be granted leave of absence without pay or benefits but without loss of seniority for a period of up to two (2) years provided that if such leave of absence extends beyond one (1) month the Employer will maintain benefits where there is an agreement from the Union to reimburse the Employer for premiums and provided further that a written request for such leave is made with as much notice as is reasonably practical. Bereavement Leave An Employee shall be compensated three (3) days’ paid at the Employee’s straight time hourly rate for time lost in the event of the death of the Employee’s spouse (to include common-law relationship and same sex partner), father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister, brother, son, daughter, step-child, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren or xxxxxx child. All of the above relationships are formed within the current marriage. An Employee in a common- law marriage will have with the common-law spouse for at least twelve (12) months. When the burial occurs outside of Renfrew Country, such leave may include reasonable travelling time at the discretion of management. One (1) day leave shall be granted without loss of salary or wages to attend a funeral as a pallbearer.
