Section Bereavement Leave. In the event of a death in an family, (that is death of father, mother, sister, brother, husband, wife, children, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandchildren, grandparents, step-parents, and step-children), all related employees shall be entitled to be absent work for a period of up to three (3) consecutive working days, without loss of pay. All related employees shall be entitled to be absent from work for one (1) day to attend the funeral of a sister-in-law, brother-in- law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, and grandparents-in-law, without loss of pay for the (1) day. If the employee requires additional unpaid time off up to twenty (20) days, the Employer will grant the request Section Duty. If an employee is required to serve as in any court of or is subpoenaed to attend a court of law as a crown witness, the employee shall be protected against loss of regular straight time pay for scheduled hours to a maximum of eight (8) hours per day, for twenty (20) consecutive working days in a calendar year, provided that the employee:

Section Bereavement Leave. Leave of absence of three (3) days excluding regular days off shall be granted, without loss of pay, to a member attending the funeral of a member of family, the family being defined as: mother, father, spouse, brother, sister, or children. Leave of absence of not more than three (3) days between death and burial shall be granted, without loss of pay, to a member attending the funeral of a member of family, the family being defined as: grandparent, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in- law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, or a person standing "in loco parentis" Leave of absence of one (1) day shall be granted, without loss of pay, to a member attending the funeral of a member of family, the family being defined as: aunt, uncle, xxxxx, nephew or xxxxxx's grandparent. (new 1999) When a member is unable to attend the funeral service, leave of absence of one day without loss of pay, shall be granted at the discretion of the Chief of Police, to the said member to attend a memorial service held in conjunction with the funeral of a member of family as defined in sub-sections and (renumbered 1999)
Section Bereavement Leave. Effective February an employee shall be granted paid bereavement leave as follows: Upon the death of a spouse, common-law spouse, child, father, mother, sister, brother, a of four (4) working days up to and including the day after the funeral. Upon the death of a mother-in-law, father-in-law, law, sister-in-law a maximum of three (3) working days up to and including the day of the funeral. Section Bereavement Leave application, an employee who but for the bereavement would normally have worked will be granted leave on any nor- mal work day that occurs during the four days commencing with the day of death or the day immediately following the death of the employee’s spouse, children or step-children and three days commencing with the day of death or the day immediately fol- lowing the death of the employee’s parents, step-parents, sister, brother, father-in-law, mother-in-law and grandparents. Upon application, an employee will be granted one day paid leave on any normal work day to attend the funeral of a grandchild. Only for the purpose of determining eligibility for bereave- ment leave, ‘spouse’ shall include a common law spouse where the employee had, prior to the bereavement, resided with the common law spouse and had formally recorded with the Com- mission that the employee considered that person to be spouse. For example, the employee had named the person as a spouse eligible for some benefit. The father or mother of such a common law spouse shall be considered as in-laws and the children of such a person shall be considered as children of the employee for purposes of deter- mining eligibility for bereavement leave. Regular employees regardless of service and temporary em- ployees who have completed three consecutive months of con- tinuous employment shall be paid at their basic rate for the normal hours of work on the day or days for which leave has been granted. A normal working day does not include off days, statutory or designated holidays or days when the employee is absent commencing on or before the day of death due to injury, illness, vacation or leave of absence without pay. Serious consideration will be given to applications for be- reavement leave which include more than three days in total, but employees will not be entitled to more days of paid bereave- ment leave than they are entitled to under the above terms. Section Leave of Absence Employees, upon application in writing on the prescribed form, may be granted leave of absence for a period not to ex- ceed: one month if they have less than three years’ service; two months if they have three years’ but less than five years’ service and three months if they have five years’ service or more, pro- vided their services can be spared. Section A company employee summoned to Jury Duty or subpoenaed as a witness on a day that he would normally have worked shall be paid wages amounting to the difference between the amount paid for such service and the amount they would have earned had they worked on such days. Section Bereavement Leave. (a) When death occurs to a member of a regular full-time employee’s immediate family, the employee will be granted an appropriate leave of absence and he shall be compensated at his regular straight time hourly rate for hours lost from his regular schedule for a maximum of three days. Members of the employee’s immediate family are defined as the employee’s spouse, mother, father, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, step-children, mother-in-law, father-in-law, xxx, daughter-in-law, step-parents, grandparents and grandchil- dren. Compensable hours under the terms of the section will be counted as hours worked for the purpose of qualifying for vacations and for paid holidays, but will not be counted as hours worked for the purpose of computing overtime.
