Special Personal Leave. If an employee is unable to report to work as the result of: (a) illness or appointments in the immediate family requiring the employee’s personal attention, or; (b) immediate or urgent family circumstances, not foreseeable by or beyond the control of the employee, that can only be resolved by the employee’s personal attention, or; (c) providing palliative care to a member of the immediate family who requires it. The Employer shall approve special personal leave in such circumstances to a maximum of thirty-six (36) hours without loss of pay in each calendar year; any requests for additional leave shall be subject to the provisions of Article 21.01. The employee may be required to submit satisfactory proof of the illness, appointment or important family circumstance, and the family relationship. For the purpose of this article, immediate family shall be as per Article 21.06 (a) (i).

Special Personal Leave. In exceptional circumstances, if a Staff Member has exhausted all accrued Personal Leave, they may be granted paid special Personal Leave at the discretion of the Director, Human Resources.
Special Personal Leave. (a) Each Employee shall be entitled to three (3) personal leave days each year, from April 1st through March 31st. Employees shall request such days as far in advance as possible. These days are for the purpose of attending to personal matters and family responsibilities, including attending appointments with family members. While the use of personal leave days is not restricted from being combined with vacation or long weekends where applicable and appropriate, personal leave days are not intended for the purposes of extending time off from work. Requests for personal leave shall not be unreasonably denied. (b) If Employment commences on or after August 1st of the year, personal leave days will be prorated for the remainder of the year as follows: (i) August 1st – November 30th: two (2) personal leave days (ii) December 1st – March 31st: one (1) personal leave day. Each calendar year, each Regular and Temporary Employee shall be entitled to up to four (4) special leave days without loss of pay, as either family leave or pressing necessity leave.

The employee may be required to submit satisfactory proof of the illness, appointment or important family circumstance, and the family relationship. For the purpose of this article, immediate family shall be as per Article 21.06(a)(i).

The intent for use of Special Personal Leave includes, but is not limited to, the following reasons: to donate blood, to attend or train for a sporting event, to attend training other than approved City training, attend private appointments, attend a cultural or religious ceremony, attend to pet or family emergencies. 33.2 An application to take Special Personal Leave must be made using the relevant leave form and approved by an employee’s immediate supervisor prior to the leave being taken. The City reserves the right to query reasons for such leave with refusal on reasonable business grounds only.

Special Personal Leave. 5.10.1. Special personal leave will be available for staff members who have exhausted their accrued paid personal leave entitlement. 5.10.2. Full-time employees will be eligible for up to an extra 5 days paid leave and will be calculated on a pro rata basis for part-time employees. 5.10.3. Special personal leave is a non-cumulative entitlement. 5.10.4. An employee must provide appropriate evidence of incapacity to work or of the need for treatment, or in the case of a member of the employee's immediate family or household, the need for care or support, from a qualified health practitioner [or by statutory declaration,] covering the date/s on which special personal leave is taken. 5.10.5. An employee must, wherever practicable, give the employer notice prior to the absence of the intention to take leave, the name of the person requiring care and their relationship to the employee, the reasons for taking such leave and the estimated length of absence. If it is not practicable for the employee to give prior notice of absence, the employee shall notify the employer by telephone or email of such absence at the first opportunity on the day of absence.
Special Personal Leave. 64.1 An employee may be granted special leave with pay up to two (2) days per calendar year. Situations in which special leave may be granted to an employee are as follows: 64.1.1 illness in the immediate family requiring her personal attention; 64.1.2 important family circumstances that can only be resolved by her personal attention; 64.1.3 a critical situation with respect to her property; 64.1.4 administration of an estate when she has been named as the executrix or court appointed administrator of the estate; and 64.1.5 other special circumstances as appropriate.
