Temporary Assignment Pay. Employees temporarily assigned to a lower rated job or title shall be paid at their base rate of pay. Employees temporarily assigned, who work a minimum of 2 hours a day at a higher rated position or job title shall be paid at the appropriate base rate of the higher rated position for the actual hours worked plus applicable differentials as defined in Article 24.
Temporary Assignment Pay. When the appointing authority determines it is necessary to cover a position from which the incumbent is absent or which is temporarily vacant for any reason, the appointing authority may assign an employee in a lower class to temporarily perform the duties of the vacant position in a higher class in accordance with the following:
A. The Director, Department of Human Resources, has approved the appointing authority's temporary assignment.
B. The employee proposed to be assigned to the higher class is qualified to perform the duties of the higher class.
C. The employee will remain in his/her current class during the time he/she is assigned to perform the duties of the higher class.
D. The assignment must be for over four (4) weeks, but must not exceed twenty-six

Temporary Assignment Pay. When an Employee is assigned by their immediate supervisor to replace another Employee in a higher paid classification within this Collective Agreement for a full or partial shift or longer, they shall be paid the basic rate of pay for the classification in which the Employee is relieving, providing they have the necessary skills, training and knowledge to perform the substantive duties of the higher paid classification. When an Employee is required temporarily to perform the duties of a lower paid classification, their basic rate of pay will not be changed.

F. The employee so assigned shall be compensated by receiving, in addition to base rate of compensation which has been established for their current class, a "bonus rate." This bonus rate shall be the difference between the rate of compensation for their current class and that of the higher class.
G. The amount of the "bonus rate" in F. is determined by:
1. Equating the employee's current hourly rate with the same hourly rate in the higher class and advancing one step; or
2. If the higher class does not contain an hourly rate that equates with the employee's current hourly rate, then the "bonus rate" shall be determined by setting the compensation one step above the next highest hourly rate in the higher classification; provided, however, that the higher rate of compensation shall be set at the entry step when the entry step of the higher class exceeds the top step of the current class by a percentage difference of five percent (5%) or more when rounded to the nearest tenth of a percent.
Temporary Assignment Pay. An Employee temporarily assigned to perform a job in a classification in a higher pay band than their own, for a period of more than three (3) consecutive Working Days, will be paid 10% above the Employee’s hourly rate of pay or step 1 of the higher classification, whichever is greater for the period of assignment. In no case shall the Employee be paid more than the top step of the higher classification. An Employee may refuse to accept a temporary assignment.
Temporary Assignment Pay. Employees assigned to perform higher level tasks outside his/her classification shall be compensated at an additional five-percent (5%) on an hour-per-hour basis when such work is being performed. Employees who are asked to perform such higher level duties are eligible for premium pay when the following conditions are met:
(A) The employee must have been assigned the work by either the employee’s supervising manager or department director.
(B) If the member thinks an assignment is “out-of-class”, it is the responsibility of the employee to inform the person assigning the duty prior to engaging in the assignment.
(C) If the employee and person assigning the work disagree that the work should be compensated as “out-of-class,” the employee shall initiate the work assigned and may resolve the issue through the grievance procedure. It is the responsibility of the employee to inform the person assigning out-of-class work when such work is finished. An employee holding a classified position may temporarily be assigned significantly all of the duties of another position in a higher classification for a period not to exceed ninety (90) calendar days during any fiscal year.
(A) The employee so assigned shall receive either the next higher step in the classification to which he/she is assigned or a five percent (5%) increase, whichever is greater.
(B) Compensation for vacation, sick leave, and holidays as described in this section shall be computed at the employee’s hourly rate on the effective date of termination
Temporary Assignment Pay. Any employee promoted, assigned or asked by the administration to do any job in a higher pay range shall receive the pay according to (1) or (2) below:
1. If the higher position is open for 10 days or less for any reason, the person asked to perform those duties shall receive the equivalent of lead person special assignment pay for those days worked, as soon as he/she starts to perform the extra duties and accepts responsibility of the job.
2. After 10 days, the College will pay Step I of the higher position.
Temporary Assignment Pay. Temporary Assignment Pay shall be provided in accordance with the City’s Temporary Assignment Pay Policy. The City’s revised Administrative Policy on temporary assignment pay will include Unit 10.
Temporary Assignment Pay. Depending on the assignment, the temporary assignment pay prescribed herein may be prorated for the time so assigned and worked. Temporary assignment pay shall not be applied when an employee is on a leave of absence for any reason (e.g., vacation, sick, holiday, CTO, injury leave, military leave, and leave of absence without pay).
a. Each Maintenance and Construction Worker in the Street Maintenance Division assigned to operate a street sweeper as part of a street maintenance project, and who possesses the appropriate valid California Driver’s License, shall be paid for that time at the lowest step in the Street Sweeper Operator II salary range which is at least five percent (5%) above the employee’s base rate of pay as a Maintenance and Construction Worker. Each Maintenance and Construction Worker assigned to the Street Maintenance Division, Concrete Crew milling machine and paving machine as an assistant to the operator of said machinery shall be paid five percent (5%) above the employee’s base rate of pay while so assigned.
b. Employees who perform pesticide/herbicide spray function for right- of-way, landscape maintenance, or aquatic areas shall receive an additional five percent (5%) of their base hourly rate of pay for the actual time spent applying pesticide/herbicide if they possess a valid Qualified Applicator Certificate (Category B-Landscape Maintenance) issued by the State of California, Department of Food and Agriculture. The City shall pay certificate renewal and maintenance fees.
c. Each Parks Maintenance Worker I/II regularly assigned on a full- time, year-round basis to irrigation work shall receive an additional five (5) percent of their base hourly rate of pay for each full pay period while so assigned.
d. Each Utility Leadworker assigned to the Patrol Division, Graffiti Enforcement, shall be paid two (2) percent above their base rate of pay while so assigned.
