Temporary Leaves of Absences. An employee, ordinarily, may receive a leave of absence without pay, for a period not to exceed twelve (12) months for valid reasons, excluding gainful employment, upon application to and approval by the Superintendent of Schools. This application must be made a reasonable length of time in advance. One (1) extension, not to exceed thirty (30) days, will be granted, if, in the opinion of the Superintendent of Schools, unusual circumstances warrant it, or, if it is mutually advantageous to the School Department and the employee.

Temporary Leaves of Absences. 1. An employee, ordinarily, may receive a leave of absence without pay, for a period not to exceed twelve (12) months for valid reasons, excluding gainful employment, upon application to and approval by the Superintendent of Schools. This will include unpaid leave to further a paraprofessional’s education. This application must be made a reasonable length of time in advance. One (1) extension, not to exceed thirty (30) days, will be granted if, in the opinion of the Superintendent of Schools, unusual circumstances warrant it, or if it is mutually advantageous to the School Department and the employee. 2. Employees who volunteer for and are offered a full time position as a Therapeutic Assistant shall have the right to up to a three year leave of absence to take such assignment. The employee may return to the bargaining unit at the start of a school year during the three year period, but not thereafter. In the event the employee is returned to the bargaining unit during the school year, the Committee agrees not to layoff the paraprofessional’s replacement. A decision by the Employer to remove the employee from the position shall not be subject to the grievance procedure, but a decision to deny the employee rights to return to the bargaining unit shall be subject to the grievance and arbitration procedure under this Agreement.
Temporary Leaves of Absences. An employee shall be granted temporary leaves of absence without loss of pay for the following reasons and upon the terms and conditions set forth: (a) Bereavement Leave: A custodian who is required to be absent on his or her regularly scheduled workday as a result of a death of the husband, wife, child, mother, father, sister, brother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandfather, grandmother, grandchildren of the employee, shall be entitled to not more than five (5) consecutive calendar days. In the event of a death outside the immediate family, leave may, but need not be granted, at the discretion of the Superintendent. Leave to be used within thirty days immediately following the date of death.

Temporary Leaves of Absences. A. Administrators will be entitled to the following temporary leaves of absence with pay each school year: 1. Two (2) days for religious, personal, legal, business, household or family matters which require absence during school hours, with prior approval of the Superintendent of Schools. This does not preclude the Superintendent from granting additional days should circumstances warrant. 2. At least one (1) day for the purpose of visiting other schools or attending meetings or conferences of an educational nature, with prior approval of the Superintendent of Schools. 3. Time necessary for duly authorized Association representatives to attend Massachusetts Teachers Association and/or National Education Association conferences and conventions. The number of such representatives attending shall be at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools. 4. Time necessary for appearances in any legal proceeding connected with the administrator’s employment or with the school system or in any other legal proceeding if the administrator is required by law to attend as a witness. 5. Up to five (5) days to arrange for and attend the funeral of a spouse, parent or child. Administrators will be granted up to three (3) days at the discretion of the Superintendent to arrange for and attend the funeral or other members of the administrator’s family or persons who are close as family. 6. Administrators will be granted up to five (5) days at any one time in the event of serious illness requiring bedside or household attention of the members of the administrator’s family or persons who are close as family. 7. Ten (10) days per school year for persons called into temporary active duty of any unit of the U.S. Reserves or the State National Guard, provided such obligations cannot be fulfilled on days when school is not in session. Administrators will be paid the difference between their regular pay and the pay which they receive from the State or Federal government. The parties acknowledge the repeal by the City of M.G.L. c. 33, § 59. B. Leaves taken pursuant to Section A above will be in addition to any sick leave to which the administrator is entitled. Any absence occasioned by an administrator’s attendance at any convention, conference, seminar, visitation, evaluation, or any similar event when such attendance has been required by a superior shall not be charged against any of the leave provisions of this Article or any other Article of this Agreement.
Temporary Leaves of Absences. ‌ A. The Board will approve temporary leaves of absence with pay for all employees under the following circumstances: 1. Three (3) days per year may be utilized for personal business, provided notification is made to the Superintendent through the appropriate building principal at least five (5) days in advance, except in cases of emergency. Employees shall provide documentation for the taking of emergency personal leave within three (3) days of returning from the emergency personal leave. In the event the day requested is contiguous to a holiday, weekend, vacation, or other recess period, the Superintendent may require a valid reason, in writing, for his approval. Aides shall receive two (2) personal business days per year. 2. Any unused personal business days may be accumulated to be used for additional sick leave as needed in subsequent years. 3. For a death in the immediate family during the individual’s work year, up to five (5) school days will be granted as leave with pay. Immediate family is defined as mother, father, sister, brother, children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, spouse, grandparents, and parents- in-law. In the event of the death of a teacher or student in the Roselle School District, the principal of said teacher or student may grant to an appropriate number of teachers sufficient time off to attend the funeral. Up to three (3) school days will be granted as leave with pay in the case of a death during the individual’s work year of brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandchildren or any other member of the immediate household. These aforementioned days shall be used consecutively within the school year except in extenuating circumstances. In such case, a written request stating the reasons for the extenuating circumstances must be submitted by the employee to-the Superintendent for approval. 4. Other leaves of absence with pay may be granted by the Board for good reason, including legal proceedings. B. Leaves taken pursuant to Section A above may be in addition to any sick leave to which the employee is entitled. C. Paid leave will run concurrently with NJFLA and/or FMLA leave.

Such days of temporary leave must be taken as either one-half (1/2) or one (1) full working day. No personal leaves of absence shall be taken immediately prior to or immediately after holidays or vacations. Any exceptions must be requested in writing to the Superintendent or his designee and must have written approval. 1. Members are entitled to three (3) days personal leave annually subject to advance notice and approval secured from the Superintendent or designee. Personal leave means an activity that requires the member’s presence during the working day and is of such a nature that it cannot be attended to at a time when schools are not in session. Unused personal days shall be transferred to accumulated sick leave time on July 1st each year of this Agreement and all succeeding Agreements. 2. Up to five (5) working days at any one time shall be granted to members in the event of death of a member’s spouse, child, son-in- law, daughter-in-law, parent, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandparent, or any person with whom the member has made his/her home, and any other member of the immediate household. 3. In the case of the death of a near relative, defined as first cousin, uncle, aunt, niece or nephew, there shall be no deduction from personal leave entitlement of up to three (3) days, subject to advance notice to and approval of the Superintendent. 4. A member shall also be granted a reasonable amount of bereavement time with full pay for the purpose of travel in cases where the funeral is out of state. Such time off is subject to the approval of the Assistant Superintendent to whom the member is reportable. 5. Any other leave of absence granted by the Board may be without pay. 6. No leave of absence with pay shall be granted due to the requirements of a second job. 7. Professional leave for such purposes as attending meetings, seminars and visiting other schools may be granted. 8. If a member is subpoenaed by a court of law to appear on behalf of the Board, such member shall do so without loss of pay.

  • Leaves of Absences 10.1 It is agreed that the use of leave days will be confined to legitimate purposes provided in this Article and the Superintendent or his/her designee may, at his/her sole discretion, extend the leaves set forth herein.

The leave of absence of an employee on leave for reasons other than military service will terminate at the end of one (1) full year in which no service has been rendered. The returning employee will be assigned to the position occupied before the leave of absence. Employees filling positions of employees on leave of absence will be assigned to such positions for a specific period of time, during which they shall be subject to all provisions of this Agreement. It shall be the responsibility of the College to inform replacement employees of these provisions. This provision does not apply to leaves of short duration for which the College presently hires temporary employees. F. The employee will retain accrued sick leave, vested vacation rights, and seniority rights while on leave of absence. However, vacation credits, sick leave, and seniority shall not accrue while the employee is on leave of absence; provided, however, that if such leave is approved for extended illness or injury, seniority shall accrue.

  • Paid Leaves of Absence Paid leaves of absences granted under this Article shall not exceed the employee's normal work schedule.

  • Temporary Military Leave An employee who is a member of the reserve corps of the Armed Forces of the United States or of the National Guard or of the Naval Militia shall be granted a Temporary Military Leave while engaged in military duty ordered for the purposes of military training, drills, encampment, naval cruises, special exercises or like activity as such member providing that the period of ordered duty does not exceed one hundred eighty (180) calendar days including time involved in going to and returning from such duty.
