CURRICULUM COUNCIL. A. The Board and the professional staff recognize that the instructional program needs continuing study and improvement. In an attempt to further this process, the Professional Staff shall cooperate in an on-going study to assist the Board in bringing about desirable changes in teaching methods and techniques, class compositions, curriculum, and any other phases of the instructional program. B. There will be established by the Board a Curriculum Council consisting of seven (7) members; three (3) members selected by the Association, two (2) members selected by the Board and two (2) members who are students selected by the student council. The elementary and high school principals shall serve as resource persons. ADHOC study committees shall be established by the Curriculum Council whenever necessary. C. The purpose of the Council will be to consider recommendations from teacher subcommittees and administration. All matters pertaining to the instructional program of the district and its implementation are the concern of this Council, such as; teaching techniques, courses of study, textbooks, curriculum, and educational tools. D. Recommendations of this Council shall be submitted to the Board for consideration and action. E. The Council will meet on a regular scheduled basis as determined by the Council membership at its first meeting. The first meeting of the Council shall be held within one (1) month from the opening date of school. At this meeting a chairman will be chosen who shall preside over Council meetings. Teacher subcommittees will be formed under the direction of the staff and the principals. Each subcommittee shall have co-chairmen, one (1) from the elementary school and one (1) from the high school. Teacher subcommittees shall be as follows: language arts, mathematics and science, social studies, career education, physical education, and fine arts. F. Proposals will be processed as follows: 1. A curriculum or textbook change is studied and the committee formulates a proposal 2. The recommended proposal is presented at a scheduled meeting of the Curriculum Council for further study and possible revision. 3. The proposal recommendation is presented and explained to the Board of Education for final approval and adoption. The Superintendent will arrange the presentation.

CURRICULUM COUNCIL. The Curriculum Council will be sixteen (16) elected teachers (one per building), sixteen (16) administrators or administrative appointed representatives and three (3) parents. The purpose will be: □ to serve as the District School Improvement Committee under school code law including review of M-STEP achievement results □ to disseminate information through the elected representatives to each building □ to review committees’ recommendations and review to ensure that proper process was followed □ to direct in-service day activities and recommend staff development activities - create agendas, choose speakers, etc. □ to review communication materials such as Curriculum Briefs and make suggestions to the Instruction Office □ to present recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools and his/her designee who shall make recommendations to the Board of Education There will be up to five scheduled meetings of Curriculum Council per school year, which may include one full-day, released time meeting. The Council will be co- chaired by the Executive Director for Instruction. The co-chair will be a KEA member elected from the membership of the Council. All voting of the Curriculum Council shall be accomplished by a written ballot. Curriculum Council Guidelines describe the duties of Council members.
CURRICULUM COUNCIL. 1. The Board shall establish a Curriculum Council. The purpose of this Council shall be to initiate and recommend policies affecting the nature and design of the instructional program of the district. As a part of its responsibilities, the Council shall: a. Develop recommended criteria for the ongoing evaluation of all instructional programs; b. Annually review and recommend policies concerning all testing programs and instructional management systems; c. Promulgate other recommended policies relating to the district’s instructional programs and curriculum. Changes in existing instructional programs and proposed new instructional programs must be reviewed by the Council prior to Board consideration, adoption, implementations, or rejection. 2. The Council shall be composed of an equal number of teachers and administrators who shall be selected annually by their respective representative groups. Each member of the Council will have an equal vote. 3. The Council may include representatives of the community and of the student body appointed by the superintendent. Such numbers will not exceed one-third of the total membership of the Council. 4. The Council shall meet on a regularly scheduled basis. Teachers serving on the Council shall be given released time with classroom substitutes provided for any meetings scheduled during regular school hours. Such meetings shall be scheduled with the prior approval of the superintendent. 5. The operation of the Council shall be under the direction of the Curriculum Director, or his/her designee, who shall chair the meeting.
CURRICULUM COUNCIL. There are hereby established Curriculum Councils consisting of representatives appointed by the Association and the Board. The Curriculum Councils will advise the Board on such matters as teaching techniques, course of study, textbooks, curriculum, pupil testing and pupil evaluation.
CURRICULUM COUNCIL. Except as stated below, nothing contained herein shall be interpreted as changing past practice with respect to the Curriculum Council. The parties agree that the Association will appoint three (3) unit members to the Curriculum Council. One of these appointees will come from the elementary schools, one from the junior high school and one from the high school. The parties further agree that the bylaws for the Curriculum Council will reflect these agreements.
CURRICULUM COUNCIL. When the District proposes material changes in the District's definition of educational objectives, determination of course and curriculum content, and selection of textbooks, they shall first be discussed by the Curriculum Council. In the event a Curriculum Council recommendation is amended by the District management prior to being presented to the Board of Education, a member of the Curriculum Council selected by the Association shall be notified at least one (1) week in advance, and be entitled, upon request, to present to the Board the original recommendation and speak in support thereof. The District shall, upon request, consult with the Association on the definition of educational objectives, the determination of the content of courses in the curriculum, and the selection of textbooks to the extent such matters is within the District's discretion under the law. In order to ensure communication between the schools and the Curriculum Council, each site shall have one (1) bargaining unit member serving on the Council. The Association will select the bargaining unit member from each site. The District will select the three (3) administrative and two (2) parent representatives to the Curriculum Council and an Oak Park Unified School District Board of Education member will sit on the Council. Additional members to the Curriculum Council may be considered through joint consultation between the Association and the District. The District reserves the right to split the Curriculum Council into an elementary and secondary grouping.
CURRICULUM COUNCIL. A. A Curriculum Council of twelve (12) voting members shall be formed, composed of the following representatives: 1. One (1) teacher from each of the District's buildings, to be selected by the staff from each building. 2. Three (3) building administrators (one from each educational level) to be selected by the Superintendent or designee.

CURRICULUM COUNCIL. A. The Association and District recognize that curriculum is ultimately determined by the Board of Education. The Board of Education will seek input from teachers. A process for this input shall be developed between Academic Services and the Association’s leadership and changes to the process shall be mutually agreed upon.
CURRICULUM COUNCIL. The parties recognize that the determination of curriculum is ultimately the prerogative of the Board and that the Curriculum Council functions as an advisory entity in that process. Changes in curriculum will be recommended to the Board through the Curriculum Council except those changes made necessary by reduction of staff (see Section 2.5). A. There shall be established a Curriculum Council with representation from the Board and the Association. The Board and Association shall each be responsible for their respective designation of representatives to the Curriculum Council. In making those designations, it is the intent of the parties that all educational levels and programs are to be reflected in the membership of the Council itself. The Board and the Association may each appoint up to nine (9) members to the Curriculum Council. B. The Council shall have the authority to establish and appoint standing committees and ad hoc committees to study requests for curriculum change or special projects and discharge such committees when their studies are completed. Prior to making committee appointments, the Council will notify all teachers through an e-mail of committee membership opportunities. C. The Council will be responsible for considering the outcomes of any appointed committee for recommendations to the Board. D. All recommendations of the Council will be by a simple majority vote of the appointed membership to the Council. The “appointed membership” shall mean the aggregate of the Council membership less those members casting an abstaining vote. E. Association members serving on the Curriculum Council must be employees of the Board. F. The Curriculum Council may establish its own bylaws and operating procedures. However, nothing in those bylaws or procedures may be in conflict with the terms of this Article or with other terms of the Master Agreement. Curriculum Council bylaws will be made available to the GLEA Executive Board.
CURRICULUM COUNCIL. A. A curriculum Council shall be established to meet on a regular basis to study and recommend improvements to the overall educational program of the district. The decision of the Board of Education on any recommendation is final. B. The Council members shall consist of the Superintendent, principal representative, two staff members from East Side, West Side, Middle School, and three members from the high school. The selection of these members will be jointly done with the HEA President and the Superintendent of Schools. C. The Board shall receive and act on plans and/or proposals originated by the Curriculum Council. D. The Curriculum Council is authorized to create such subcommittees as it deems necessary to carry out its function. E. Released and/or shared time meetings will be utilized for this work.
