Excessive Absences. Absences in excess of accumulated temporary leave or in excess of the specified limits are deducted from the employee's salary at a daily rate for each day of such excess. However, the specified limits may be extended by the Chief Human Resources Officer upon written request by the employee if the employee has accumulated sufficient days.
Excessive Absences. When a student of compulsory school age is absent from school with combined nonmedical excused absences and unexcused absences in excess of thirty-eight (38) or more hours in one (1) school month, or sixty-five (65) or more hours in a school year, that student is considered "excessively absent" from school. The district or school the attendance officer shall notify the child's parent or guardian of the child's absences, in writing, within seven (7) school days after the date of the absence that triggered the notice requirement. At the same time written notice is given, any appropriate intervention action listed herein may be taken. The following “medical excuses” will not count toward a student’s excessive absence hours: (1) personal illness; (2) illness in the family necessitating the presence of the child; (3) quarantine of the home; (4) health care provider appointments (doctor, dentist, mental health provider, etc.);
Excessive Absences. An employee who has exhausted his/her annual sick leave/personal necessity may be required to provide verification of illness/injury or personal emergency to his/her supervisor. Failure of an employee to comply with provisions of this section will subject the employee to disciplinary action.
Excessive Absences a. A student who misses 10 or more days of unexcused or excused classes may be in danger of failing for that semester or the year.
b. For excused absences, the student’s parents/guardians should contact the administrator to discuss the absences and develop a plan to make up missed work.
c. After any extensive absence, a physician's note of explanation must be delivered to the administrator immediately upon returning to school. Permission for early dismissal is granted only for serious reasons. The online attendance form must be filled out for a student to leave early. For the safety and protection of students, requests by telephone cannot be honored. Under unforeseen circumstances, a parent/guardian might need to pick up a student early. Prior to picking up the student, the parent/guardian must confer with an administrator. The parent/guardian must meet the student at the Reception Office and give the receptionist the request in writing. Students are responsible for all work missed due to any early dismissal. Even though this is considered an excused absence, a student must be in the class for a minimum of 20 minutes to be counted present for that class period.
1. If given an early dismissal, a student must sign out at the Reception desk.
2. All students are to remain on campus until the end of the school day. Attendance is required at all assemblies and all scheduled school events.
3. Students leaving campus without proper authorization will be liable for serious penalties, not limited to, but including suspension Such actions are considered a breach of trust, and the student's safety and wellbeing are at stake.

In extreme emergencies, a signed, faxed permission note from a parent or guardian will be accepted. • Students who drive to school are required to register their cars and obtain a parking pass that must be visibly displayed. Students must obey speed limits and traffic patterns. • Student parking is allowed only in the assigned spots. Students who carpool on a regular basis will be given parking preferences. Parking is also reserved for faculty and staff. • Failure to observe these guidelines warrants a demerit. • The parking lots are off-limits to students during the day. Excessive Absences. Excessive Absences is defined as unexcused absences for 10% or more of the total workdays at any given point in the school year. Unexcused absences are absences that are not associated with FMLA, Approved Workers Compensation, Jury Duty or Professional Development. For example, an employee who has 6 unexcused absences within a 60 work day period is considered to have excessive absences.

Being absent from campus without the knowledge of a parent or guardian or leaving campus without permission, constitutes skipping school. All students must sign out in Student Services before leaving campus. The consequences of skipping school may result in suspension. Canton Academy Upper School hours are from 8:15a.m. to 3:07p.m. The Canton Academy campus will be off limits after 3:30 p.m. unless individuals are attending or participating in a supervised school function. If a school activity does not start until later afternoon, students may not wait on campus unattended. Violations of this rule by Canton Academy students will result in disciplinary action by administration and notification of parents. A repeat violation will result in a parent conference. Canton Academy is not liable for students on campus outside of school hours. Parents must make arrangements for students to be off campus by 3:30 pm. Students may only be dismissed during the school day for illness, the case of an emergency, or at the discretion of the Administration or designee. Any student who needs to be dismissed during the day for non-emergency or illness reasons must submit a note to Student Services requesting that dismissal before first period begins. The request should include the time to check out, the reason for leaving, a phone number to verify, and parental/guardian name/signature. Dismissals may be counted as unexcused. Students must sign out in Student Services when leaving campus for all dismissals. Failure to sign out will result in disciplinary actions. Dismissals except for emergency or illness should not occur during class period time but should be done at the class ending bell.
Excessive Absences. (ref. Policy 1131) Extended absences or recurring periods of short absences that contribute to inefficient school operations will be investigated by the Board of Education through the Human Resource Services office. Upon finding that the employee’s absences are excessive or unnecessary, the district may take disciplinary action against the employee up to and including dismissal. Absences can be considered excessive or unreasonable if: • absence is for a reason not outlined under District policy or law • absence is for any reason other than the one given for the absence • absence becomes disruptive to District operations • employee fails to appropriately notify the District of an absence as soon as possible after the employee knows he/she will be absent • employee does not provide the District complete and accurate information as requested by the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resource Services or designee • employee does not first obtain permission to be absent from the appropriate supervisor when required by policy to do so Failure of an employee to return to work when declared able by the attending physician shall constitute voluntary termination.
Excessive Absences. Excessive Absences shall be defined as absences within the control of the employee, excluding scheduled vacation days, which exceed a total of sixteen (16) or more days per school year (determined by considering that employees receive 10-12 sick days and 3 personal days per year). This does not include absences attributed to serious illness or injury with proper medical documentation.
