Faculty Assignments. 18.2.1 The District shall maintain load and assignment policies for the Chaffey Community College District consistent with the provisions of this Agreement. 18.2.2 In order to meet the educational needs of the District, the District shall have the right to assign or reassign bargaining unit members as needed. Assignments shall not be made capriciously or for punitive or disciplinary reasons.

Faculty Assignments. It is customary for Instructional Residential Faculty to teach 15.0 load hours of classes per semester as a part of their 30 weekly hours of professional responsibilities. When Residential Faculty accepts faculty-appropriate, substantial, complex, non-teaching assignments to advance the mission of the College at the request of the Administration, the College President may reduce the teaching load of the Residential Faculty to provide needed time to achieve the assigned task. For each 1.0 load hour reduction in teaching, the instructional Residential Faculty member shall be accountable for two (2) hours of work per week. Such work shall be part of the hours of accountability/professional responsibilities. Other paid activities beyond the base contract will not be considered part of the hours of accountability/professional responsibilities. Service Faculty fulfill thirty-five (35) hours of professional responsibilities per week. Hours of accountability for Service Faculty who teach classes will be reduced at the rate of two hours and twenty minutes for each teaching load hour. To meet the thirty-five (35) hours per week of accountability/professional responsibilities, Service Faculty members are required to meet scheduled Department/Division assignments and other College/MCCCD-related activities as defined in Article 1. When Service Faculty accept Faculty-appropriate, substantial, complex, non-teaching assignments to advance the mission of the College at the request of the administration, this work shall count towards their 35 hours per week of accountability/professional responsibilities.
Faculty Assignments. 13.1 Section 87482.9 of the Education Code states that reemployment rights shall be a subject of negotiations between the District and the Bargaining Agent. 13.2 The District and AFT Part-Time Faculty United recognize that students benefit when well-qualified, effective faculty members continue to serve as instructors, librarians, and counselors at Xxxxxx Valley College. Toward that end, the following procedure is established to encourage and facilitate the retention of successful faculty members. The procedures in Sections 13.3 through 13.5 shall not apply for vacant positions that occur within twenty (20) calendar days preceding the first duty day for that assignment. All rights to assignments under this Article 13 shall be subject to and contingent upon the District’s obligations with respect to full-time faculty load.

Unit members initially hired to teach in a specific discipline, which shall be considered their Primary Discipline, shall have the right to assignments to fulfill their Full-time Service Obligation, as defined in Article 10D.1, before unit members who are qualified to teach within the discipline but for whom it is not his/her Primary Discipline. See Article 1C.1h. for definition of primary discipline. a. Rotational Seniority within the teaching specialty shall be used for scheduling up to this thirty (30) unit Full-time Service Obligation if requested by a Contract or Regular unit member. “Rotational Seniority” for this purpose means that if two (2) or more discipline unit members request a particular assignment in their Primary Discipline as fulfillment of their Full-time Service Obligation, then the assignment shall go to the unit member for whom it has been the longest period of time since he/she last received it. Unit members requesting Rotational Seniority shall do so in writing, to their appropriate Administrator, at or before the time that principal assignments are selected for the upcoming Term. It is understood that a unit member may only invoke this right for one (1) course or section of a course per semester.

In the event that a unit member is underloaded, not able to achieve a load equal to a full-time service obligation in their primary discipline because not enough assignments are available in their primary discipline, that unit member shall be eligible to take assignments for load in another discipline, a secondary discipline, for which they meet minimum qualifications. Under normal circumstances, the unit member for whom it is a secondary discipline shall receive load in that discipline after the primary members of that discipline have completed scheduling of their full-time load obligations, but before any assignments in that discipline are taken for overload, or offered to retirees or Part-time (Adjunct) unit members. (1) In the event that a unit member is underloaded due to the cancellation of an assignment, and that unit member has an overload assignment in a secondary discipline, that unit member shall be eligible to convert that assignment from overload to regular load to meet their full-time service obligation. (2) By mutual consent of the Vice President of Academic Services and the unit member who is qualified to teach in more than one discipline, a unit member may fulfill his or her full-time service obligation with assignments from more than one discipline, even when there are assignments available in their primary discipline.

Faculty Assignments. 1. Scheduling of courses and assignment to regular academic programs, in the best interests of students, during the academic year shall be determined by the Xxxx working with the faculty members. Full-time faculty will be given preference for individual course assignments over part-time faculty, provided written requests made by a qualified faculty member for individual course assignments within the full-time faculty member’s assigned discipline(s) to meet their standard teaching load are submitted no later than one week after the initial departmental scheduling meeting, and upon determination by the Xxxx working with the faculty member that the assignment is in the best interests of students. A faculty member shall be assigned no more than three (3) preparations per semester as part of their regular program unless necessary to establish a full teaching load. A faculty member shall be notified of their tentative program at least thirty (30) days before the end of the preceding semester. Changes in a faculty member’s program may be made if emergencies arise or to meet student interests and needs. Such changes shall also be in writingand dated and signed by the Executive Xxxx, Xxxx or Vice President of Educational Xxxxxxx.Xx making the necessary changes due to these circumstances, the Xxxx or Vice President shall make every effort to consult with the affected member in the interest of arriving at the best solution for all concerned. 2. Each faculty member shall schedule a minimum of five (5) office hours for student conferences per week. Office hours may be scheduled in alternate locations such as the tutoring center, library, labs, etc. Among the five (5) required hours, at least one (1) hour shall be scheduled each teaching day of the faculty member. These office hours shall be scheduled immediately prior to or after the class period, unless otherwise approved by the Xxxx. The office hour schedule shall provide maximum convenience and access for students who wish to confer with a faculty member. Such schedules, including times and locations of office hours as approved by the Xxxx, shall be included in course syllabi and shall be posted throughout the term and carefully observed by each respective faculty member. Faculty members in consultation with the Xxxx may change posted schedules in emergencies or to meet student interests and needs. 3.
