Standard Teaching Load. (a) In order to promote scholarship within the University the standard teaching load for each full-time Faculty Member shall normally be 2.5 full year credit courses or equivalent.

17.02.1.1 The teaching load for each full time Employee, appointed effective July 1, 2009 and thereafter, in the first year of a probationary appointment shall be twelve (12) credit hours.
17.02.2 Employees who take a six (6) month sabbatical shall alternate their teaching load during the semester that does not fall within the sabbatical leave period, with nine (9) credit hours for the first sabbatical and six (6) credit hours for the subsequent sabbatical.
17.02.3 Each Employee shall seek prior approval from the appropriate Xxxx, in accordance with the policy on class cancellation, for any planned absence from campus that entails missing a scheduled meeting of a class.

A standard teaching load may include evening assignments, online/hybrid course(s) and/or an independent study course(s). Where the needs of the program permit, the College shall limit evening and weekend assignments to one (1) section per week. However, this clause shall not prevent a Faculty member from accepting additional evening and/or weekend assignments. In Fall and Spring semesters, each full-time Faculty member shall teach a minimum of fifteen (15) contact hours per week per semester concurrent with a nine-month contractual status (Florida Statutes, § 1012.82). In cases where course contact hours are not an even factor of fifteen (15), Faculty may teach up to eighteen (18) contact hours. Course contact hours will be calculated at a ratio of 1:1 when determining the standard teaching load. Each Faculty member shall normally work a nine-month contract, not to exceed 169 duty days during the Fall and Spring semesters (excluding state approved holidays). This is the standard Faculty contract length. Faculty in specific health-related programs and other academic programs which require the duties and responsibilities of full-time Faculty members may receive an extended contract if their work assignment is expected to exceed 169 days. Faculty have non-teaching duty days that are included in their contract and are identified on the Academic Calendar. Faculty who cannot be available for these non-teaching duty days must submit a leave request form to the appropriate Xxxx or Director. Faculty will hold office hours and must be present to perform other non-teaching, instructional duties including, but not limited to, advising students, attending to professional development activities, or participating in other departmental or College activities, even if classes are not held. The standard contract for Librarians is twelve (12) months. The standard contract for Counselors is twelve (12) months.

(a) a Faculty Member may elect a standard teaching load of 3.0 full year credit courses or equivalent by notifying the Department Chairperson.
(c) The standard teaching load for Faculty Members who do not demonstrate a level of scholarship appropriate for their discipline and rank will be increased to 3.0 full year credit courses or equivalent. The Xxxx, in consultation with the Chairperson, shall assess the Faculty Member’s scholarship for a two year period immediately preceding the academic year in which the 3.0 teaching load is to take effect. Any such increase shall be in effect until the faculty member applies for reinstatement of the 2.5 teaching load and the Xxxx and the Department support reinstatement.
(d) In those cases where the teaching load has been increased to 3.0 full year credit courses or equivalent, and in those cases where the Xxxx and Chairperson disagree on the reinstatement of a 2.5 full year credit courses or equivalent teaching load, such cases shall be referred to the University Review Committee. Based solely on an assessment of the Faculty Member’s Annual Reports, the Xxxx in consultation with the Department Chair, shall make a recommendation to the University Review Committee; the University Review Committee will review the case and make a recommendation to the President who shall make the final decision. In cases where the Xxxx and the Chairperson disagree, the Chairperson shall also submit a recommendation to the University Review Committee. All procedures of the University Review Committee specified in this Collective Agreement must be followed, including but not limited to, the provision of copies of the Xxxx’x recommendation and the right of the Faculty Member to respond to that recommendation.
(e) For operational reasons Faculty Members may be requested or required to bank up to 0.5 credits for a maximum of one year. For greater clarity this means that a Faculty Member with a teaching load of 2.5 may be required to teach a 3.0 full year credit courses or equivalent teaching load in an academic year which would be followed by a 2.0 full year credit courses or equivalent teaching load in the subsequent year. Standard Teaching Load. 1.1 The standard teaching load for all full time tenured, tenure-track, and limited term faculty is defined as eighteen (18) credit hours in the academic year. These credit hours may further be described to include contact hours in classes, labs, clinic, studio and required tutorials. Each hour a class meets each term is defined as one contact hour. Each hour of a studio, clinical or laboratory, which is supplementary to the classroom activity, shall be considered to be equivalent to one-half hour of classroom activity. Each hour of scheduled tutorial or problem session shall be considered equivalent to one-third hour of classroom activity. Faculty must be present and teaching for the period for which they are claiming teaching credit. When an Instructor is assigned to a contact period, the professor shall claim no teaching credit for that course, unless the professor is present and teaching.
1.2 No Faculty member shall be obliged to teach more than the standard teaching load. Any Faculty member may voluntarily apply to the appropriate Xxxx to undertake teaching in excess of standard teaching load and shall be compensated in accordance with the rate for teaching courses as overload.
1.3.1 In the School of Education, a practicum responsibility for twelve (12) students for two terms shall be considered equivalent to three (3) contact hours for faculty members.
1.3.2 In the School of Nursing, clinical responsibility should normally range between six (6) and nine (9) students per clinical group, taking into account the greater intensity of supervision for newer students as well as students with higher learning needs. Assignment of clinical student ratio will be done in consultation with the faculty member, year coordinator, and the Chair.
1.3.3 An enrolment of six (6) students for one academic term in individual instruction of applied music courses requiring one hour per week of individual instruction is equivalent to a three-hour course assignment; for an enrolment of fewer students or for individual instruction of less than one hour, the fulfillment of teaching expectation is adjusted proportionally. Instruction of ensembles in the Music Department shall be credited at 0.5 times 1 credit hour of each hour of weekly ensemble.

A standard teaching load may include evening assignments, online/hybrid course(s) and/or an independent study course(s). Where the needs of the program permit, the College shall limit evening and weekend assignments to one (1) section per week. However, this clause shall not prevent a Faculty member from accepting additional evening and/or weekend assignments. The standard teaching load may include all course modalities, with up to fifty percent (50%) being the online modality. Additional online course(s) may be granted with the approval of the Xxxx. Final approval of additional online courses is at the discretion of the Xxxxxxx. Course contact hours will be calculated at a ratio of 1:1 when determining the standard teaching load.
