Recognition of Teaching Experience. (a) Only the paid health related portion of the maternity leave shall be considered teaching experience for the purpose of granting salary increments. (b) Adoption leave shall not be considered teaching experience for the purposes of granting salary increments.
Recognition of Teaching Experience a. Any certified teacher shall be granted full credit up to the maximum provided in their category for any teaching experience gained in publicly-funded independent schools in British Columbia and schools under public authority in Canada, the British Commonwealth or the USA. i. A minimum of eight (8) months' full-time employment during one school year or one calendar year is required to constitute a year's experience. ii. Two periods of full-time employment, each of less than the above minimum of eight (8) months but each four (4) months or more, may be combined to constitute a year's experience. iii. For teachers new to the District, previous periods of teaching services of less than four (4) months during a school calendar year may not be combined to carry credit. iv. Maternity leave service as defined in Article B.20.2.c shall be recognized as service under this clause for teachers who were on approved maternity leaves when previously employed on a full-time basis with the District. b. Experience gained in another occupation is recognized for placement on the Salary Schedule as follows: i. Teachers of Industrial Education courses shall be allowed credit in the form of a maximum of two (2) increments on scale for completion of a certified apprenticeship training or its equivalent. Increments will be granted only in cases where a teacher spends over one-half of their teaching time in the field of Industrial Education. ii. Teachers of Commerce or Industrial Education shall be allowed credit for one-half of their acceptable trade experience up to a maximum of eight (8) years on scale. Increments will be granted only in cases where a teacher spends over one-half of their teaching time in the applicable subject field.
Recognition of Teaching Experience. Experience as a teacher, including experience as a Long-Term occasional teacher and/or as a continuing education teacher, shall be recognized and calculated as follows: 1. Pregnancy and/or parental leaves shall be considered to be teaching experience for the statutory portion of the leave only. 2. Placement on the salary scale, (Article L10.01) will be based on the total accumulated experience as of the date of calculation. 3. Total days of experience are to be considered. For the purposes of Article L10.04, a year's teaching experience is considered to be 194 days. 4. If, at the time of calculation each year, there are 97 or more days experience in excess of full years of experience, these days shall be considered to be equivalent to one year of experience for placement on the grid. 5. Part-time and full-time experience shall be accumulated and paid to the appropriate full year of experience as provided for in Article L10.04(4) and as calculated on August 31 of each year. Part-time teaching experience will be prorated to its full- time equivalent at the time of the calculation each year. 6. Calculation of experience will be completed as of August 31st of each year. 7. Previous teaching experience, excluding previous teaching experience in an elementary or secondary school, (i.e. Armed Services, Adult Education Centre, College of Applied Arts and Technology or University, on full-time employment) will be credited as teaching experience for grid placement in the amount of one grid step for each full year of similar teaching experience up to a maximum of seven (7) years of similar teaching experience. 8. Previous secondary or elementary school teaching experience, prior to employment with the Board, will be granted full recognition on schedule up to the maximum salary for the appropriate category as outlined in Article L10.01. Such experience shall be calculated as above, in Article L10.04 (7).

Recognition of Teaching Experience. 5.1 A year of teaching experience shall be any one school year during which a teacher, under contract, has taught for not less than one full semester, or the equivalent, as defined by the Board’s official school year calendar. A teacher employed under contract, who teaches less than one full semester in a school year, may accumulate an experience increment by combining any two consecutive school years of service with the Board provided that the teacher has taught a minimum of 60 full teaching days in each school year. 5.2 Notwithstanding clause 5.1, a part-time teacher, under contract, who teaches half time or more during 5.3 A substitute teacher who has taught with the Board may accumulate one experience increment by combining substitute service in the two consecutive school years immediately preceding appointment to regular staff, provided the substitute teacher has taught a minimum of 120 full days in that two-year period. 5.4 Experience increment adjustments shall be made on the first day of each school year. 5.5 Recognition of teaching experience prior to engagement with the Board shall be one increment on the salary schedule for each year of teaching experience, to the maximum as provided in the salary schedule. 5.6 For the purposes of clause 5.5, the teacher shall submit, to the Board, a certified statement from previous employers outlining the teacher’s experience and stating that such experience was in a school under the jurisdiction of a provincial, state, or national department of education. Until such statement is provided by the teacher, the teacher shall be placed at zero years of experience in the appropriate category of teacher education on the salary grid. Should the Board receive the required certified statement within 90 calendar days after the teacher commences employment with the Board, any adjustment to teaching experience will be retroactive to the commencement date of employment. Any certified statement received by the Board after the 90 calendar days will result in an adjustment to teaching experience effective the first of the month following the date the statement was received by the Board.
Recognition of Teaching Experience. Notwithstanding Clause 4.3, allowance for past experience shall be one step on the schedule for each year of experience to the maximum as provided in the salary grid. 5.1.1 For purposes of this section, before an allowance is paid for experience prior to engagement, the teacher shall be required to submit a certified statement from previous employers to the effect that such experience was in a school under the jurisdiction of a provincial, state or national Department of Education. Recognition of Teaching Experience. A year of teaching experience is equal to professional services rendered under contract for not less than 130 full-time equivalen ays. Substitute teaching shall not be counted as teaching experience for purpose of this article.
Recognition of Teaching Experience. 5.1 Allowing for past experience shall be one step on the schedule for each year of experience to the maximum as provided in the salary grid. 5.2 For purposes of this section, before experience increments are paid, the teacher shall be required to submit a statement from previous employers to the effect that such experience was teaching students in grades kindergarten to grade 12, in a school under the jurisdiction of a provincial, state or national department of education. 5.3 If evidence of prior teaching experience is submitted within 90 calendar days, the teacher shall be paid for experience increments retroactive to the commencement date of employment. 5.4 If evidence of prior teaching experience is not submitted within 90 calendar days after commencement of employment, the Employer may evaluate the teaching experience. 5.5 If evidence of prior teaching experience is submitted after 90 calendar days after commencement of employment, the teacher's teaching experience increments will be adjusted on the beginning of the month following the submission of proof. 5.6 A year of teaching experience shall be any one school year during which a teacher, including a substitute teacher, has taught for not less than 126 school days. 5.7 A teacher under contract who teaches less than 126 school days with the Employer in a school year may accumulate experience increments by combining teaching days, including substitute teaching days, with the Employer to a total of 126 days within a period of three consecutive years providing that a minimum of 27 days service with the Employer be rendered per year. 5.8 An increment shall be effective on September 1 or where applicable at the beginning of a semester, immediately following the attainment of the necessary accumulation of the aforesaid days.

The adjustment date for change in allowance for teaching experience shall be September 1 of each school year. 6.2 For purposes of this section before an allowance is paid for experience prior to engagement, the teacher shall be required to submit a certified statement from previous employers to the effect that such experience was in a school under the jurisdiction of a public or separate school board. Notwithstanding the above, the superintendent of schools has the discretion of recognizing other teaching experience which required a teaching certificate if circumstances warrant. Until such evidence is submitted, or if it is not submitted within 90 calendar days after commencement of employment, the Board may evaluate the teaching experience.
