Use of Paid Sick Leave. An employee eligible for sick leave with pay may use such leave for the following: (a) Absence due to illness of the employee, or not to exceed one day due to an emergency illness of the employee’s immediate family which is limited to husbands, wives, children and parents. (b) Medical, dental, or optical related appointment for the employee or the employee’s immediate family. The department head may require a presentation of certificate of attending physician, dentist or optician. (c) Absence to act as pallbearers. (d) To make up the difference in pay between an employee’s normal pay and what they are paid through Worker’s Compensation. (e) Up to three (3) days per year may be used for care for a newborn child or upon placement of an adopted child with the employee.

Use of Paid Sick Leave. PSL must be taken for the following purposes, but may be used for other purposes, including vacation, holidays, and other leaves of absence: (i) An absence resulting from an employee’s mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; to accommodate the employee’s need for medical diagnosis, care, or treatment of a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; or an employee’s need for preventive medical care; (ii) To allow the employee to provide care for a family member (as defined in RCW 49.46.210(2)) with a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; care of a family member who needs medical diagnosis, care, or treatment of a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; or care for a family member who needs preventive medical care; and (iii) When the employee’s place of business has been closed by order of a public official for any health-related reason, or when an employee’s child’s school or place of care has been closed for such a reason; and (iv) For absences that qualify for leave under the domestic violence leave act, chapter 49.76 RCW. 11.2.1 Only PSL use for the purposes listed in 11.2 will be protected under the Washington Paid Sick Leave law. PSL time off may be taken in as little as 6-minute increments.

The entitlement to use sick leave to care for an immediate family member applies only to paid sick leave. Counsel who are absent for more than five (5) consecutive days because of illness of themselves or a family member, must submit at the Employer's request, a doctor's note with their application for sick leave. If Counsel does not provide this doctor's note and the Employer does not consider Counsel's explanation for not having such a note to be reasonable, the sick leave applied for will not be granted as paid leave and the Employer may take disciplinary action. Upon return to work Counsel must submit the sick leave form within two (2) working days.

If the employee does not provide this doctor's note and the Employer does not consider the employee's explanation for not having such a note to be reasonable, the sick leave applied for will not be granted as paid leave and the Employer may take disciplinary action. Upon return to work the employee must submit the sick leave form within two (2) working days. For illness of a chronic nature, the employee may submit a doctor's note stating the illness is chronic and the note will be kept on file for future use on subsequent absences for that illness for up to three (3) years.
Use of Paid Sick Leave. Accrued paid sick leave can begin to be used 90 calendar days after the start of employment. Paid sick leave can be used in increments of one hour or more. Paid Sick Leave hours may be used at the employee’s discretion for such purposes as inclement weather, appointments with doctors, dentists, attorneys, illness (employee, children, or other relatives, etc.), personal time, or any other eligible reason as defined under RCW 49.46.210.
Use of Paid Sick Leave. Any employee absent three (3) consecutive workdays due to claimed illness, shall, upon the Employer’s request, furnish a medical doctor’s statement of incapacity to work. Employees absent from work due to claimed illness or otherwise shall inform the Employer of such absence by telephone one (1) hour prior to starting time, except in case of emergency.
Use of Paid Sick Leave. Employees may take paid sick leave for personal illness or injury, personal medical or dental appointments that are approved in advance, or to attend to the illness or injury of certain family members. For purposes of paid sick leave, the family members for whom sick leave may be used shall be governed by applicable California law (which currently provides, in general terms, that employees may use up to one-half (½) of their annual paid sick leave to attend to the illness of a child, parent, spouse, or domestic partner of the employee). Paid sick leave must be used in increments of not less one-half (½) hour and will be paid at the employee’s regular hourly wage rate. Once an employee has used all accrued paid sick leave, the employee must request and use paid personal days, paid vacation, or an unpaid leave of absence. Employees eligible for state disability benefits shall be required to use any accrued paid sick leave (as well as any other accrued paid time off) to supplement the state disability benefits.

Only PSL use for the purposes listed in 10.6.2 will be protected under the Washington Paid Sick Leave law. PSL time off may be taken in as little as 15- minute increments.
Use of Paid Sick Leave. Paid Sick Leave may be used for any short-term illness (three (3) or less successive scheduled days away from work). The Employer reserves the right to deny payment of sick leave for affected pay periods for an employee who has a recurring pattern of picking up double shifts and calling in sick within the same pay period. The Employer reserves the right to deny payment of sick leave for affected shifts for an employee who has a recurring pattern of picking up unscheduled shifts and calling in sick for those shifts. Extended Illness Bank hours may be used only for health conditions requiring absence away from work for four (4) or more successive scheduled work days. If the employee misses four (4) or more successive works days due to their own health condition, the first three (3) days may come out of EIB. A doctor's slip may be required before the employee is eligib e to return to work. Medical certification may be required for purposes such as Family Medical Leave (FMLA). If the employee misses four (4) or more successive scheduled work days due to a health condition of a family member (both as defined by FMLA) the first three (3) days may be covered by the EIB. An employee on approved intermittent FMLA may use EIB for FMLA absences in a single or multiple day increments.
