Criteria for Promotion. 24.04.01 For evaluating each application for promotion, the following general criteria shall apply:
(A) the performance criteria pursuant to 21.02, with an emphasis on demonstration of judgement, initiative and the ability to communicate and interact effectively;
(B) competent fulfilment of the duties and responsibilities of the member's position or positions;
(C) ability to work constructively with other Library staff and toward the interests of the Library and the University; and
(D) where appropriate pursuant to 16.09, 16.10 and 16.11, consistent contribution and individual achievement in service to the University, in service to the community and profession and in research or other scholarly work.
24.04.02 In addition to the above general criteria, the following specific criteria for different ranks shall apply:
(A) for promotion to Librarian II a member shall:
(i) hold a continuing appointment; and
(ii) have a minimum of one (1) year of full time professional experience in a university library;
(B) for promotion to Librarian III a member shall:
(i) hold a continuing appointment;
(ii) have a minimum of seven (7) years of full time professional experience, of which at least five (5) were in a university library;
(iii) have given valued service to the Library;
(iv) have developed his/her professional expertise; and
(v) have given valued service to the profession and/or the University; and
(C) for promotion to Librarian IV a member shall:
(i) hold a continuing appointment;
(ii) if hired after July 1, 1993, hold a Master's degree, but exceptional services to the profession or scholarship may compensate for lesser degree qualifications;
(iii) have a minimum of five (5) years of service as a department head in a university library or a minimum of ten (10) years of full-time professional experience, of which at least five (5) were in a university library;
(iv) have given valued service to the Library;
(v) show evidence of sustained professional development; and
(vi) show evidence of professional leadership and/or professional scholarship and/or valued service to the University which represents a contribution that is additional to the requirements of 24.04.02(B)(v). Achievement(s) must be of sufficient significance to be recognized both within and beyond the Lakehead University community.

Criteria for Promotion i. Demonstrated excellence in teaching as determined through a substantive review of the faculty member’s cumulative performance conducted by the program faculty and xxxx. In the event that an application for promotion is received, and part-time performance reviews have not been completed in accordance with Article 25, the xxxx shall ensure that a part-time performance review is completed within the same quarter as the application for promotion was received ii. Satisfactory completion of the professional development obligations as outlined on the promotion application.
Criteria for Promotion. (a) Promotion decisions will be a result of meritorious performance and will be based upon established criteria specified in writing by the Board or the University.
(b) All affected faculty will be given a copy of the criteria.
(c) Promotion criteria will be available in the department/unit office and/or at the college/division level.
Criteria for Promotion. To meet the criteria for promotion, the candidate shall provide evidence of a cumulative record of satisfactory performance appropriate to the rank being sought as specified in Clauses 18.12 - 18.19 and demonstrated professional growth. Considering the professional duties and responsibilities of Librarians as set out in Article 4, the areas of assessment for promotion shall be the following, with the greatest weight placed on (a):
Criteria for Promotion. (a) Promotions, recommendations and decisions shall be based upon applicants' contributions to their discipline, Department, Faculty and University within the current rank, except for promotion to Professor or Professional Associate IV, where the applicant's entire professional career shall be reviewed.
(b) Recommendations and decisions shall be based upon the qualifications by rank as listed in Article 8, as well as upon Clauses 12.9, 12.10 and 12.11 below. In applying the criteria to persons in academic rank, all relevant factors included in Article 8, Clause 2 shall be taken into account. Tenured academic members shall not be required to re-establish "Professional Preparation" in promotions proceedings. In applying the criteria to applicants in the Professional Associate ranks, all relevant factors in Article 8, Clause 5 shall be taken into account. Recommendations and decisions are expected to consider teaching and scholarly activity in the context of working conditions at Xxxxxxx University and the type of appointment held by the member, weighing carefully all criteria in accordance with accepted norms of scholarly and creative activity and in accordance with accepted norms of teaching adequacy.
(c) A record of accomplishment in scholarship/research and/or effectiveness in teaching within rank is expected for promotion of an academic member to the next rank. A record of accomplishment in professional attainment and/or professional experience within rank is expected for promotion to the next professional associate rank. A normal expectation is that an Assistant Professor/PA II would require five (5) years within rank to demonstrate such a record and an Associate Professor/PA III seven (7) years. While this is the normal expectation, it is recognized that some members will require less time in rank and some more time in rank in order to demonstrate such a record.
Criteria for Promotion. To meet the criteria for promotion, the candidate shall provide evidence of a cumulative record of academic performance appropriate to the rank being sought and demonstrated professional growth. Considering the professional duties and responsibilities of Faculty Members as set out in Article 3, the areas of assessment for promotion shall be the following, with the greatest weight placed on (a) and (b):
Criteria for Promotion. 26.03.01 To receive promotion to the rank of Assistant Professor the member shall:
(A) be a full-time probationary member of the teaching staff;
(B) hold a doctorate or the degree normally considered to be terminal in his/her discipline, except that research and/or other scholarly and/ creative work which is available for peer review and which represents a contribution to the member's discipline or profession may compensate for lesser degree qualifications; and,
(C) have fulfilled his/her teaching responsibilities satisfactorily. It is the candidate's responsibility to provide the Promotion, Tenure, and Renewal Committee with sufficient information for it to make a reasoned evaluation with respect to each of (B) and (C) above.
26.03.02 To receive promotion to the rank of Associate Professor the member shall:
(A) be a full-time tenured member of the teaching staff or an applicant for tenure pursuant to Article 26.02;
(B) hold a doctorate or the degree normally considered to be terminal in his/her discipline;
(C) have at least four years of experience in university teaching or a combination of at least two years of university teaching experience plus at least four years of relevant professional practice;
(D) demonstrate that the quality of his/her teaching is satisfactory as may be established by the evaluation of his/her teaching;
(E) demonstrate contributions in the field of research or other scholarly and creative activities that go beyond the fulfilment of the requirements of his/her terminal degree; and
(F) have discharged reasonable administrative responsibilities within the Univer- sity community (16.04) and/or service to the Profession and the community (16.05). It is the candidate's responsibility to provide the Promotion, Tenure, and Renewal Committee with sufficient information for it to make a reasoned evaluation with respect to each of (B) to (F) above.
26.03.03 Where all the criteria in 26.03.02 (B) and/or (E) have not been met, the Promotion, Tenure, and Renewal Committee shall consider that:
(A) exceptional quality of teaching, which shall be demonstrated by peer and/or student evaluation of his/her teaching, may compensate for a lesser research and other scholarly and creative output;
(B) exceptional research and scholarly and creative output may compensate for lesser degree qualifications pursuant to 26.03.02 (B);
(C) exceptional competence in the activities of administrative service (16.04) and/or service to the Profession and the communit...
Criteria for Promotion. (A) (i) Lecturer to Assistant Professor: Fulfillment of the criteria for Assistant Professor described in Clause 15.02 (B) (ii). No application is required.
Criteria for Promotion. General
10.2.2.1 Promotion in rank, normally from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor or from Associate Professor to Professor, is a recognition of the Member’s growth and development as a teacher and scholar, and of the Member’s service. A Member’s entire record of work will be assessed.
10.2.2.2 In order to receive Promotion, a Member must present a demonstrated record of achievement consistent with the criteria in each of teaching, scholarly activity, and service.
10.2.2.3 In accordance with Article 10.1.2, a Tenure and Promotion Committee may interpret criteria for Promotion, subject to the following:
10.2.2.3.1 Except in the case of duties assigned to a Chair, teaching constitutes the majority of each Member’s workload; thus, effective teaching is necessary for Promotion;
10.2.2.3.2 A teaching record exceeding the requirements for the rank being sought may compensate for a lesser record of scholarly activity or service; and
10.2.2.3.3 Scholarly activity and service may be considered together for Promotion, so that greater achievement in one may compensate for lesser achievement in the other.
Criteria for Promotion. General
10.3.3.1 Promotion in rank, normally from Librarian I to Librarian II, from Librarian II to Librarian III, from Counsellor I to Counsellor II, or from Counsellor II to Counsellor III, is a recognition of the Member’s growth and development as a Librarian or as a Counsellor, and of the Member’s service. A Member’s entire record of work will be assessed.
10.3.3.2 In order to receive Promotion, a Member must present a demonstrated record of achievement consistent with the criteria in professional practice and in service.
10.3.3.3 Where scholarly activity is a component of a Member’s workload contributions, the Member must present a demonstrated record of achievement consistent with the criteria in scholarly activity. The assessing committee will take into consideration the percentage of the Member’s cumulative workload that has been allocated to scholarly activity when determining the emphasis placed on this component.
