Professional Advancement a. A teacher who submits a program of study for a sabbatical leave shall undertake a full program. For purposes of this Article, "full program" shall be defined as follows: (1) sixteen (16) hours undergraduate study per semester, or (2) twelve (12) hours graduate study per semester, or (3) the equivalent thereof. The program submitted shall be designed to increase the teacher's understanding of educational psychology, improve the facility in teaching technique, or broaden experience in special subject fields. b. At the beginning of each semester, the teacher must submit evidence of registration in an approved college or university. (This evidence may be submitted in the form of a letter from the registrar of the school, or the registration card from the school.) c. At the end of each six week period, the teacher granted sabbatical leave must submit to the School Board through the office of the superintendent of schools a written statement affirming that the employee is still in attendance at school. d. At the conclusion of each semester, the teacher granted sabbatical leave shall produce evidence of the work completed during the semester.

Professional Advancement. The following paragraph applies to any bargaining unit member employed by the District during the 2004-2005 school year: A certified teacher, by provisional or permanent or life certificate, shall (upon satisfactory proof) be reimbursed for semester hours of graduate value to the extent of one-half (1/2) the cost of tuition which the teacher has paid and had not, nor will not, be reimbursed from any other source. This payment is to be made upon return to the district in September for credits earned during the previous school year. The following paragraph applies to any new bargaining unit member employed to teach during the 2005-2006 school year or later: A certified teacher employed under a provisional certificate shall (upon satisfactory proof) be reimbursed for up to eighteen (18) semester hours of graduate value to the extent of one-half the cost of tuition which he himself has paid and for which he has not, nor will not, be reimbursed from any other source. Upon becoming eligible for Professional certificate, this initial benefit terminates. Once the teacher has received their Professional certificate, the teacher shall (upon satisfactory proof) be reimbursed for up to six (6) semester hours of graduate value every five (5) years to the extent of one-half (1/2) the cost of tuition which the teacher has paid and has not, nor will not, be reimbursed from any other source. This payment is to be made upon the teachers return to the district in September for credits earned during the previous school year. Upon becoming eligible for movement from one track to another, the teacher shall notify the administration in writing with appropriate documentation for placement on a new track. If this eligibility occurs during the school year, such new placement will be made at the beginning of the next semester, with new salary beginning upon such placement.
Professional Advancement. 1. Each certificated teacher will advance to the next higher column for educational attainment on the state salary schedule when sufficient quarter-hours of post graduation education have been attained. 2. Credits earned for advancement on the salary schedule will comply with requirements listed in WAC 392.121.261 and 392.121.262. Only a grade of C or better, or pass in pass/fail courses is acceptable.
Professional Advancement. Employees who have completed three (3) consecutive years with the District may be granted up to one (1) year’s leave of absence without pay for the purpose of furthering approved educational objectives. An employee on leave of absence will retain her/his salary rating and accrued sick leave earned prior to the year of leave, and upon return will be reinstated in a position the same as, or equivalent to, held at the time the leave was granted, subject to the needs of the District. Application for a leave of absence under the policy shall be made to the District in writing at the earliest possible date.
Professional Advancement. The Board agrees to provide up to $18,000 for professional advancement per fiscal year to be used as described below. a. Course Reimbursement (Year-Round, Full-Time, and Regular Employees) Course reimbursement is for job-related education, or for classes necessary to obtain a post-secondary degree (associate's, bachelor's or master's) or for Para Educator or teacher certification. Payment for each graded course shall be made to the employee at the time of enrollment. The employee shall be required to earn a grade of "C" or better (or Pass in a Pass/Fail course). In the event the employee does not earn a "C" or a "Pass", the amount of tuition paid at the time of enrollment shall be repaid by the employee to the district in equal installments from each paycheck due to the employee over the next sixty (60) days from the date the Board receives notice of the unsatisfactory grade. Satisfactory proof of enrollment and of completion shall be required. Reimbursement shall be made on a first come, first served basis. No employee shall receive payment for college courses beyond six (6) credits or two (2) four (4) credit courses per year before May 1. Employees may then apply for reimbursement for additional credits between May 1 and May 10 and the funds will be equally divided between the applicants, provided that the funds have not been expended. Reimbursement will be the actual cost of the course, but not to exceed $1,500 per course. Employees who access the course reimbursement benefit will be required to return to service in the district for a minimum of one (1) year. If the employee does not return to service for the required twelve (12) month period, the employee will be required to reimburse the cost of the previous twelve (12) month's tuition. Repayment shall be forgiven if no degreed job is available in the district or if the employee applies, but is not chosen for a degreed job in the district. The Association shall have the right to submit for group workshops, courses, and seminars including related materials associated with approved activities. The Association may apply for up to $6,000 of the total funds allocated under section annually. The Association shall be subject to the same requirements as an individual member under this section except for the initial amount accessible and the ability to apply for materials associated with the group activity. Professional Advancement a) Educational Credits: Employees shall advance (when educational credits/clock hours earned makes them eligible) to the next higher vertical column(s), provided that the credits and/or acceptable clock hour equivalents meet the requirements set in 3b above.
Professional Advancement. 6.2.8.1 Professional advancement as used within these provisions must directly relate and contribute to the competence, performance or effectiveness of the unit member in his/her current assignment and possible future needs of the District, with the District approval. Unit members who request professional advancement credit shall submit a completed application, from Appendix F, to the District administration which contains a description of activity, and its relationship to the teaching assignment, and acceptable documented evidence of successful completion of the professional advancement activity. Official grade cards may be accepted pending the receipt of official transcripts in order to meet deadlines. Official transcripts must be received no later than 6 months from receipt of the grade card. Should the request be denied by district administration, an ad hoc committee shall be formed to review the request. This committee shall consist of two district representatives, chosen by the district, two teachers, chosen by the union, and one mutually agreed upon person. The committees decision will become final. 6.2.8.2 All degrees and units, except as provided in 6.2.8.5, must be from institutions accredited by the American Association of Schools and Colleges or its regional affiliate. Courses submitted for credit must be completed after the granting of the Bachelor’s Degree. 6.2.8.3 All course work will be recorded in semester hours. Quarter units shall be converted to semester units by multiplying by two-thirds. All course work submitted for credit must carry a grade of “C” or better or of “Pass.” 6.2.8.4 Graduate or upper division units submitted for salary schedule credit must be in the unit member’s present field or in professional growth courses jointly agreed to by the unit member and the Superintendent or his/her designee. 6.2.8.5 Credit for lower division courses, education travel and organized institutes or workshops will be subject to recommendation by the District Superintendent or designee. Prior written approval is required in order to be granted credit, except in extenuating circumstances. The Superintendent must approve for credit to be applicable. Professional Advancement. 1. Employees may be allowed one (1) day each school year, upon the recommendation of the building principal, and with the approval of the Superintendent to visit an educational institution of their choice in order to observe varying practices, methods and manifestations of educational philosophies. The building principal or Superintendent may request a written report on said visit. Travel and meal expenses will be borne by the employee. 2. Employees may attend the Plymouth County Teachers Convention upon recommendation of the Superintendent and approval of the Committee. 3. Employees planning to attend approved workshops, seminars or other professional activities must submit appropriate purchase order request(s) to the office of the superintendent. Employees who fail to attend a prepaid conference will be responsible for reimbursement to the school system at the discretion of the Superintendent.

Additional Hours Teachers who plan to advance on the salary schedule by earning additional hours or degrees must notify the Director in writing on forms provided by the Director prior to the 10th of May. In case of emergency or unusual situations, the Director may accept this notification at a later date. Hours of credit to be used toward advancement on the salary schedule must be in the teacher’s teaching area or related field and must be approved by the Director in advance of being earned. The official transcript indicating completed hours must be on file with the Board Clerk by September 10th of the contract year. Failure to comply with the procedure specified and/or failure to meet any date specified could result in denial of advancement on the schedule. B. Inservice Points Teachers with a current IDP will be allowed one college hour equivalent to twenty (20) inservice points for movement on the salary schedule. Credit for movement will be from the Bachelor level through M.S. + 45 columns. A maximum of 100 points (5 college credit hours) will be allowed for each column movement. Teachers must have a local Professional Development Council’s (PDC) approved verification forms on file in the Tri-County office on dates specified by the PDC. The accumulation of IDP points may only be used for movement on the salary schedule when points are earned outside of the contract day/year (e.g., after school hours, holidays, weekends, or summer.) For those inservice activities conducted during the contract day, the district may still pay mileage, registration and/or other expenses. IDP points earned during the contract year/day may be used for recertification but not for movement on the salary schedule. Inservice points accumulated prior to the 1997-98 contract year may still be applied to movement on the salary schedule. C. State Requirements All teachers are required to pursue educational preparation in accordance with the standards of the Kansas State Department of Education regardless of type of certificate held.
