Granting of Vacation. Vacations will be granted at such times as the Business Unit finds most suitable considering seniority, the wishes of the employees and the efficient operation of the plant. Vacation dates may be changed by the Business Unit in cases where it considers it necessary for efficient operations. Where an employee is entitled to 2 weeks vacation with pay such weeks shall be consecutive, except when the Business Unit and employee otherwise agree. Where an employee is entitled to 3 weeks vacation with pay such weeks shall be consecutive unless the Business Unit considers otherwise in order to maintain efficient operations. In determining the length of a vacation, a week shall mean seven consecutive days, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays falling within the period. Where an employee is entitled to three weeks vacation with pay such weeks shall be consecutive unless the Company considers otherwise in order to maintain efficient operations. During the term of this Agreement only, employees may commence annual vacations on any calendar day unless the Company considers otherwise in order to maintain efficient operations. For the purpose of this trial, a week shall mean the equivalent of 40 hours worked. When an employee takes vacation in periods of less than 40 hours in a week, such days of vacation shall be counted as time worked for the purposes of calculating overtime pay under Article 24.03 (Overtime Rate).

Granting of Vacation. The department heads shall have the authority to handle the granting of vacations. Each department has their own system of granting vacation hours. The Employer shall use this past practice rule when granting vacation hours. No vacation hours will be denied unless it would be a hardship to the Employer. The City and the labor management committee of the Union will meet at least fourteen (14) days prior to the start of an employee’s vacation time request to work out any hardship claims caused denials of vacations by the Employer.
