Studies Assistance. 62.1. CASA may approve studies assistance involving financial assistance and/or paid leave where an employee’s proposed study is considered to be relevant to their current work duties or career aspirations within CASA and is not considered likely to impact adversely on operational requirements. Further information is provided for in the relevant policy.
62.2. Full time study
62.2.1. Approval of leave without pay may be granted for full time study up to a maximum of 3 consecutive years. Approvals must be made annually. Approval criteria are the same as for other study leave.
62.2.2. Leave without pay for full time study counts as service for long service leave if determined at the time of application and for personal leave and incremental advancement, subject to the employee resuming duty on completion of the period of leave.
Studies Assistance. The Secretary may, under this clause and in accordance with relevant policy, determine that an ongoing employee is an “approved student” for the purposes of providing studies assistance. The Secretary will consider: the personal development needs of the employee; the financial resources, operational needs and corporate goals of the department; the effective work performance of the approved student; the length of the course; and the demonstrated requirements of the broader APS. An approved student may receive studies assistance for full time or part time studies, in the form of: paid leave; unpaid leave; and/or full or partial reimbursement of costs associated with studies. An approved student is entitled to paid leave to attend examinations and/or formal assessments requiring attendance held during normal hours of duty including reasonable travel time. Leave without pay for study purposes will count as service for all purposes other than annual leave and salary advancement if the approved student returns to the department following their study leave. LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT The department is committed to ensuring that employees have the skills and knowledge they require to perform their duties, and supporting employee career development. The department will ensure that all employees have access to appropriate learning and development opportunities on work time. Managers and employees are responsible for: active participation in all aspects of the employee’s learning and development, including encouragement, support and the application of new skills and knowledge; understanding employee capability, including identifying strengths and reviewing individual needs; and providing regular feedback to each other on all aspects of the employee’s learning and development. Learning and development opportunities may include: experiential (on-the-job) learning and development activities; coaching and mentoring activities (exclusive of performance coaching); and formal off-the-job learning and development activities. Where an employee requires professional skills in order to perform their duties, the supervisor and the employee will agree a Learning and Development Plan in accordance with subclause I.4.2 that facilitates the employee to maintain their professional development and skills. Studies Assistance. The Commission supports the principle of life-long learning and subject to the Studies Assistance Guidelines, employees will be encouraged to undertake tertiary study to improve their career development opportunities.
(i) Approval for studies assistance is not an automatic entitlement but may be granted subject to operational requirements of the Commission and equity with other employees of the Commission.
(ii) In considering approval for studies assistance, the relevance of the proposed studies to the needs of the Commission (as per 15.2 and 15.3),operational priorities and resource capacity will be taken into account.
(iii) Employees who have been unable to complete schooling or commence tertiary studies due to personal circumstances will be encouraged to apply for assistance.
(iv) Where an employee undertakes approved formal studies, the Commission’s Studies Assistance Guidelines will apply.
Studies Assistance. Where an employee undertakes formal studies, relevant to the business needs of the Department, the Secretary may approve studies assistance to a maximum amount of $5000 per annum and study leave.
Studies Assistance. C2.1 All ongoing employees and non-ongoing employees engaged for 12 months or longer, except participants of the Graduate program, Technical trainees and Cadets, are eligible to apply for studies assistance.
Studies Assistance. XXXX may grant study assistance to a staff member to assist with courses of study whether or not leading to an award, at the discretion of the CEO. Assistance with courses of study may be granted where the following criteria are met:
(a) the course is directly relevant to the work of the staff member at ACER; or
(b) the course, while not being directly relevant to the work of the staff member, is related to the work of ACER and is important to the career development of the staff member. The following assistance may be granted for approved courses of study (pro-rata for part- time employee and/or where study load is part-time):
Studies Assistance. 26.1. All ongoing employees, and non-ongoing employees engaged for 12 months or longer, except participants of the Graduate program, Technical trainees and Cadets, are eligible to apply for studies assistance.
26.2. The provision of studies assistance is discretionary and should not be considered an automatic right. Approval for studies assistance will be on an academic period basis.
26.3. An approved student may be granted:
a) up to 2 and a half hours of paid leave per unit/subject to a maximum of 5 hours study leave per week, or a pro-rata amount if the employee works part-time; or
b) in exceptional circumstances, up to 3 hours of paid leave per unit/subject to a maximum of 6 hours study leave per week; or
c) a total of 8 hours per week for employees with special needs and/or requirements, for example, First Nations Australians, people with disabilities or working in remote locations.
26.4. If an approved student’s study commitments require less than the full weekly amount of study leave, the unused portion of the entitlement may, subject to approval by the employee’s manager be used during the relevant academic period for other study commitments, for example, preparation of assignments or study for examinations.
26.5. An approved student may be granted examination leave for up to 2 days per unit/subject in an academic period for preparation for an attendance at compulsory examinations, or for the completion of assignments, essays or projects that are a required component of study.
26.6. Unless the Chair determines otherwise, an approved student may be granted financial assistance of up to $3,000 (plus any GST component) per academic period for compulsory fees, books and study materials. Unless the Chair determines otherwise, financial assistance will be by way of reimbursement at the end of the relevant academic period on proof of expenditure and successful completion of studies.
26.7. For more information about studies assistance including the responsibilities, rights and obligations of employees and managers, employees should refer to the relevant People Management Instruction.
Studies Assistance. 26.1 Studies assistance for external study will be provided to eligible AFSA employees.

59.2 There are three levels of studies assistance: approval as student; study leave; and financial assistance.
59.3 The provision of the various levels of assistance is discretionary, and should not be considered an automatic right. Approval for all levels of assistance is on an academic period basis.
59.4 An approved student may be granted: up to two and a half hours of paid leave per unit/subject to a maximum of five hours study leave per week, or a pro-rata amount if the employee works part-time; or in exceptional circumstances, up to three hours of paid leave per unit/subject to a maximum of six hours study leave per week; or a total of eight hours per week for employees with special needs and/or requirements, for example, Aboriginal and Xxxxxx Xxxxxx Islanders, people with disabilities or working in remote locations.
59.5 If an approved student’s study commitments require less than the full weekly amount of study leave, the unused portion of the entitlement may, subject to approval by the employee’s manager be used during the relevant academic period for other study commitments, for example preparation of assignments or study for examinations.
59.6 An approved student may be granted leave for up to two days per unit/subject in an academic period for preparation for and attendance at compulsory examinations, or for the completion of assignments, essays or projects that are a required component of study.
59.7 Unless the Chair determines otherwise, an approved student may be granted financial assistance of up to $3,000 (plus any GST component) per academic period for discounted Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) fees, study/unit and compulsory fees, books and study materials.
59.8 Unless the Chair determines otherwise financial assistance will be by way of reimbursement at the end of the relevant academic period on proof of expenditure and successful completion of studies.
