Taking sick leave. (a) A teacher, other than a short-term reliever, who has sick leave entitlement available under clause 4.1.1 or, from 28 January 2024, clause 4.1.2, can take sick leave on pay when they are absent because they are sick or injured or the teacher’s spouse, partner, or someone dependent on the teacher for care is sick or injured. (b) The employer may grant paid sick leave in advance from the teacher’s next annual entitlement i.e., up to 10 days, which will be deducted from their next entitlement. (c) Teachers will have sick leave deducted from their entitlement as follows: i. Sick leave is only deducted on days that the school is open for instruction, and on which the teacher would normally have worked. ii. For full time teachers, sick leave will not be deducted for an absence that is less than two hours. iii. For part time teachers, sick leave will not be deducted for an absence that is less than 25% of the hours normally worked on that day.

Taking sick leave. Sick leave may be taken in increments of less than one full workday. Employees may not take sick leave before it is earned. Sick leave may be used for illness, disability (including disability due to pregnancy) or injury of the employee or their spouse or dependent child, or appointments with Doctors, Dentists, or other Professional Medical Practitioners. For periods of absence of five (5) consecutive workdays or less, when the District can substantiate a pattern of abuse of sick leave, the District may, in its discretion, require evidence to substantiate that such leave days were used for the purposes herein set forth. For periods of absence for more than five (5) consecutive workdays, the employee shall provide written verification of the reasons for such absence upon the employees' return to work. The employee shall furnish written verification by persons licensed under the "Illinois Medical Practices Act" or under similar laws of Illinois or of other states or countries or by an individual authorized by a recognized religious denomination to treat by prayer or spiritual means. Such verification shall show the expected duration of the sick leave. Such verification shall be submitted to the Medical Department immediately upon the lapse of more than five (5) consecutive workdays taken as sick leave and shall be resubmitted no less than every forty-five (45) days thereafter. The District may require, in its discretion that an employee take a physical examination at any time during the period when an employee is on sick leave or in connection with an employee's request to return to work after an absence of five (5) or more consecutive working days. Failure of an employee to provide such verification or to submit to such a physical examination shall on due notice cause termination of such leave.

(b) Only absences on working days will be debited from sick leave entitlement. (c) An employee who is absent due to illness for more than 3 days must provide a medical certificate from a recognised medical practitioner in support of the period of absence. (d) Where an employee has a proven pattern of recurring absences on sick leave the University may, in the event of future absences, require a medical certificate in respect of each period of sick leave for a period of 6 months thereafter.

Taking sick leave. (i) Full and part time Employees may take accrued paid sick leave in the event that they are not fit for work because of personal illness or injury affecting the Employee provided that they: • notify their line manager as soon as reasonably practical that they intend taking sick leave and the period of leave they expect to take. This may be before or after the sick leave has started; and • supply a satisfactory medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner if requested by their line manager or other person authorised by ANZ. (ii) A satisfactory medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner will otherwise also be required when an Employee: • has taken more than 30.4 hours of sick leave without a certificate in any one anniversary year, or pro rata for those who work other than 152 hours in a 4 week cycle; or • is absent for more than 2 consecutive working days; or • is absent due to sickness and has no entitlement to paid sick leave or workers compensation; or • is absent due to sickness during industrial action involving a work stoppage. (iii) Where an Employee is not able to provide a medical certificate, ANZ may require the Employee to sign a statutory declaration that the Employee was unfit for work because of a personal illness or injury. (iv) If an Employee wishes to resume work before the expiration of the medical certificate, another certificate may be required from a medical practitioner, stating that they are fit to resume duty. (v) If you leave work due to illness or injury after working for part of the day, you will be required to take sick leave for the part of the day that you do not work.
Taking sick leave. (i) If you cannot attend work because of illness or injury, you must, as soon as reasonably practicable notify Redpath of the absence (which may be a time after the leave has started). (ii) Must advise Redpath of the period, or expected period of the leave. (iii) In order to access an entitlement to sick leave you may be required to provide satisfactory evidence of illness and/or injury (a medical certificate or statutory declaration will be satisfactory evidence of illness or injury).
Taking sick leave. 1. An employee who has a Sick Leave credit is entitled to take Sick Leave if the employee is too sick to work. (a) An employee will be allowed to take two (2) single days Sick Leave per year without an appropriate Doctor's Certificate. Once this allocation is used all further Sick Leave within that year must be covered by an appropriate Doctor's Certificate or other reasonable evidence, for payment to be made for such Leave. (b) Any absence of two (2) days or more in length must be covered by an appropriate Doctor's Certificate or other reasonable evidence for payment to be made for such Leave. 3. An employee who has a Sick Leave credit, and who is on Annual Leave, is entitled to take Sick Leave instead of Annual Leave if the person is too sick to work for a period of at least three (3) days.
