Temporary Openings. Temporary openings, i.e., to cover absences, PTO coverage, overtime coverage or other unanticipated temporary staffing requirements, will first be filled with employees from within the same classification within the same unit. Volunteers will be solicited based on classification seniority. If the temporary vacancy cannot be filled with volunteers, then qualified employees may be assigned to cover the temporary vacancy in reverse order of classification seniority. The employer will make every reasonable effort to fill the shift with a member of the bargaining unit.

Temporary Openings. Temporary openings will be filled at the discretion of the District. When temporary openings become vacancies, they will be opened to Bargaining Unit members and will be filled in accordance with Article 14.4.

Temporary Openings. The Employer may assign employees to temporary openings in positions within the bargaining unit. In the event the employee’s pay schedule is equal or higher than that of the temporarily assigned duties, the employee’s pay shall remain the same. In the event the employee’s pay schedule is lower than the pay schedule of the temporarily assigned duties, and the employee assumes these duties for a period in excess of four (4) consecutive work hours, exclusive of breaks, meal periods or time performing incidental work of a lower classification, within one (1) pay period, the employee shall be advanced to his/her current pay step in the new pay range for the duration of the temporary assignment. If the temporary opening assignment exceeds thirty (30) work days, it shall be filled by posting and transfer in the same manner as set forth in Section 2. The filling of a temporary opening in this manner shall be shown as a temporary transfer and its posting shall designate such fact and indicate the estimated length (in excess of 30 work days) of the temporary transfer. A temporary transfer shall terminate upon the return of the employee originally leaving the position or at such time as it is determined by the Employer that the original employee will not return, resulting in either the existence of a permanent opening or the elimination of the position.

Temporary Openings. The Employer determines if a temporary opening exists, for how long and if it will be filled. A temporary opening is an opening that results from a leave of absence, extended vacation or other extended absence from work of at least thirty (30) days. Temporary openings will be posted for three (3) calendar days. The temporary opening will be awarded to the most senior qualified employee from the job classification in which the temporary opening occurs. If not filled by a bargaining unit employee, the temporary opening may be assigned to a casual employee. It is understood that none of the provision of this Section nor its application shall entail a "bumping" procedure.

Temporary Openings. A position is defined as that which is created by the extended absence of an employee due to disability, extending over a period of more than forty-five (45) work days but not to exceed eighteen (18) months. A vacant position may be held for more than forty-five (45) working days by mutual consent of the Custodial Union and the SchoolDistrict. Temporary positions shall be filled by qualified applicants who respond to postings of the position in the same manner as the regular posting procedure. Employees holding temporary positions will be paid the salary the position is regularly paid. After eighteen (18) months, the position would be posted as a regular position. Holders of temporary positions will return to the position held immediately prior to the temporary appointment. Current employees may not apply for temporary positions that are in the same classification and shift as their current position. An employee holding a temporary position would be eligible to apply for any and all bid openings that occur during the temporary appointment.
Temporary Openings. 1. a. Temporary assignments required for cross-training, workload needs, temporary vacancies due to illness, leaves (including personal and vacation), or emergency may be filled by the City. If the temporary work is not of an emergency nature, the City shall first seek volunteers for temporary assignment by posting notice of the temporary work for a period of three (3) workdays. Volunteers will be assigned based on seniority and ability to perform the work. Assignments shall be for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days within any 90 day period by transferring any seniority employee or employees to the job. These assignments shall be on an inverse seniority basis. Volunteers are not subject to the sixty (60) out of ninety (90) day provision.
Temporary Openings. 17.1: Temporary openings to a higher paid position may be filled by the Employer by transferring an employee or employees to the job on the basis of the top person on the existing promotional list. Temporary openings will not exceed four (4) months.
