Christmas and New Year’s Scheduling. Full-Time The Hospital will schedule employees off work for not less than three (3) consecutive days at either Christmas or New Year’s. The Hospital will give Christmas Eve off with Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve off with New Year’s Day. Employees who normally work Monday to Friday will have the option to make alternate arrangements for time off at Christmas and New Years in accordance with past practice. Part-Time The Hospital will endeavour to schedule part-time employees off work for not less than three (3) consecutive days at either Christmas or New Year’s.

Christmas and New Year’s Scheduling. I.1 Where possible, the Hospital agrees to maintain scheduling for nurses during the Christmas and New Year’s period while providing nurses with five (5) days off at either Holiday period on an alternating basis from year to year. The Hospital may waive all scheduling/staffing requirements for a three (3) week period which will be determined by April 1st each year and communicated to the Bargaining Unit President in writing. Christmas scheduling will take precedence over vacation request for this three (3) week period. The Hospital agrees to schedule five (5) consecutive days off for nurses during the Christmas or New Year’s periods, unless the nurse makes a written request by October 1st to the Manager or designate, for fewer days off or a request for specific days off for the stretch of five (5) days. This provision does not apply to Nurses that are scheduled both holidays off. When possible to provide both Holiday periods off to some nurses, it shall be done by seniority on a rotating basis from year to year. When extra time is available to be granted off, the time will be granted off as per the Shift Cancellation Article. Time off at Christmas shall include December 24th to 26th, all scheduled shifts. Time off at New Year’s shall include December 31st to January 2nd all scheduled shifts. For the purpose of clarification, working Christmas is defined as December 24th to 26th, any scheduled shift; and working New Year’s is defined as December 31st to January 2nd any scheduled shift. The parties agree that scheduling of any vacation requested will only be considered after the Christmas and New Year’s schedule has been finalized. It is understood and agreed that all nurses (excluding casuals) will be scheduled to work, if required, either on the designated Christmas or New Years periods mentioned above. All nurses (excluding casuals) will alternate working Christmas and New Year’s from year to year. The Hospital will post the Christmas/New Year’s schedule no later than November 15th each year.

Employees will not be scheduled for the other holiday nor for the same holiday two years in a row unless the employee and the Departmental Manager or designate mutually agree otherwise. For the purpose of this Article: • Christmas is deemed to be Christmas Day and Boxing Day commencing at 2300 hours on December 24 and ending at 2300 hours on December 26 for those on eight (8) hour shifts and commencing at 1900 hours on December 24 and ending at 1900 on December 26 for those on twelve (12) hour shifts. • New Years is deemed to be New Years Eve and New Years Day commencing at 2300 hours on December 30 and ending at 2300 hours on January 1 for those on eight (8) hour shifts and commencing at 1900 hours on December 30 and ending at 1900 on January 1 for those on twelve (12) hour shifts.
Christmas and New Year’s Scheduling. Alternating Christmas and New Year’s time off may be introduced for either part-time and/or full- time in any unit where 60% of either group so indicate by secret ballot. All scheduling regulations will be adhered to except in the case of G-11 (f) and in the case of a dispute, seniority shall be the deciding factor. The alternating arrangement would be for a minimum of two Christmas schedules. Alternating Christmas/New Year’s time off may be discontinued by either the part-time and/or full-time after a minimum of two Christmas schedules, when 70% of either the full-time and/or 70% of the part-time so indicate by secret ballot. Voting by secret ballot would need to take place prior to the second Monday in September of any year with the exception noted below. A vote can be initiated by a nurse or at the request of the Hospital and will be conducted according to established voting procedures. The parties agree that a vote will be conducted on all units for both full-time and part-time nurses which require Christmas and New Year’s scheduling. A vote will not be conducted on units where full-time and/or part-time nurses currently have an alternating schedule. The results will be implemented for the 2011 Christmas and New Year’s schedule. In such areas, Nurses will be off no later than 17:00 hours on December 24 and December 31.
