Christmas Scheduling. If a full-time/regular part-time employee works at Christmas or New Year's she/he shall be scheduled at least five (5) consecutive days off over the holiday not worked. The Employer will attempt to schedule seven (7) consecutive days off. Employees must request either Christmas or New Year’s time off by October 15th. Christmas time off will include Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day until day shift December 27th, and New Year's time off will include New Year's Eve Day and New Year's Day and January 2nd evening shift inclusive. Unless otherwise requested by the employee and accommodated by the Employer, the Christmas and New Year's holidays will be scheduled alternately each year. In the event that a nurse requests both Christmas and New Year’s off work, the most senior nurse at each site shall be given the opportunity to take both these holidays. The scheduling provisions set out herein are waived between December 15th and January 7th to provide for Christmas and New Year’s scheduling. The shift schedule shall be posted by November 1st.

It is agreed by the parties that scheduling of employees off at Christmas will allow employees who were not scheduled off for Christmas in odd numbered years to have preference for Christmas in even numbered years. After this procedure has been followed, remaining available time off at Christmas will be scheduled by seniority.

Christmas Scheduling. (All shifts)
(a) A nurse will be scheduled off work for not less than five (5) consecutive days* either at the Christmas or New Year's Season except where nurses are not normally required to work on weekends and paid holidays. (*five (5) days for extended shifts.)

(e) Those nurses who are off on pregnancy/parental leave are to be considered as if they are not at work. Therefore upon their return from leave they pick up where they left off (e. g. if they were off on Christmas then pregnancy/parental leave the following year, they return to be scheduled on for Christmas.)
(f) The normal scheduling conditions may be waived* to accommodate the special scheduling arrangements between December 15th and January 10th. The full-time weekend worker will continue to work their Master Schedule during the Christmas period * Clarity Note: The waiving of the normal scheduling conditions must be reasonable and can be subject to a grievance.
Christmas Scheduling. The schedule covering Christmas and New Year’s shall be posted as soon as reasonably possible, but not later than November 1st.
Christmas Scheduling. Each nurse will be scheduled off work for not less than four (4) consecutive days at either Christmas or New Years. It is understood that nurses who are granted vacation in the two pay periods which includes the Christmas and New Years’ period will not be guaranteed the four (4) consecutive days off noted above. This provision will not apply to areas where nurses normally work Monday to Friday and are not normally scheduled to work on paid holidays. A nurse may request a lesser benefit under this provision. Such request is subject to review and approval by the Employer. Definition of Christmas to include Christmas Eve Day, commencing at 0700 hours, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day, concluding at 1900 hours on Boxing day. Definition of New Year's to include New Year's Eve Day commencing at 0700 hours and New Year's Day, concluding at 1900 on New Year’s Day. If you are scheduled to work Christmas you will be scheduled either Christmas Eve and Christmas Day or Christmas Day and Boxing Day but not all three. Full time and part-time nurses will be required to work either Christmas or New Years. Employees will submit their preference for Christmas or New Years off by October 15th of each year. The schedule will be posted no later than November 15th. If there are more requests for the Christmas or New Years time off than the employer can accommodate then scheduling for time off will be given to those who worked the Christmas or New years the previous year. If it is possible to schedule nurses to have both Christmas and New Year’s period off, then nurses will be schedule to be off by rotation and seniority. A nurse may exchange her holiday time off with another nurse by mutual agreement.
D 20.01 When a permanent full time line becomes vacant in a unit, it shall be offered to permanent full-time nurses on that unit up to two (2) times, in accordance with article 10.07, prior to posting the vacancy hospital wide.
Christmas Scheduling. (a) Employees shall be scheduled off at either Christmas or New Years on an alternating basis.
(b) Time off at Christmas shall include December 24, 25, 26. Time off at New Years shall include December 31 and January 1. The Hospital will schedule not less than five (5) consecutive days off for each employee at either Christmas or New Year, except employees who normally work Monday to Friday and are not normally scheduled to work on a paid holiday. If an employee is so scheduled to work, she or he shall be paid premium pay, in accordance with Article 14.03. Employees who normally work Monday to Friday may use vacation or lieu time to request up to five (5) consecutive days off during this period. Such request for time off will not be unreasonably denied.
(c) Nothing shall preclude the above conditions, unless the employee has made a written request for a change and her or his immediate supervisor has agreed in writing.
Christmas Scheduling. (i) The Christmas schedule shall be from December 15 to January 15 10 and will be posted on October 1 each year but no later than October 15. The Employer reserves the right to alter the scheduling regulations as defined in the Collective Agreement during the above referenced time period of the Christmas schedule. For greater clarity, this shall not apply to any changes to the schedule as a result of shift exchanges. The Employer agrees to keep the scheduling regulation disruption to a minimum.
(ii) Nurses will be granted alternating time off at Christmas or New Years. The Employer will schedule not less than five (5) consecutive days off for each employee at either Christmas or New Year's. Time off at Christmas shall include December 24, 25 and 26. Time off at New Year's shall include December 31 and January 1. An employee may request in writing to be exempt from having 5 days off at Christmas or New Years in accordance with Article P.1. A nurse may make a written request to her immediate supervisor to work specific day(s) or to have specific day(s) off during this time frame. Such request may be granted upon mutual agreement of the parties. Requests that have been granted by mutual agreement will not result in overtime payment. For the Christmas scheduling period, scheduling regulations governing Christmas time off will take precedence over vacation requests. Any vacation time requested during the Christmas period will be considered only after Christmas and New Years’ time off has been granted, such requests will be granted by seniority and will not be unreasonably denied.
Christmas Scheduling. K.1 The Employer agrees to schedule five (5) consecutive days off for full-time and regular part-time nurses, unless the Nurse submitted a written request to the Manager by September 15th, for fewer scheduled shifts off during the Christmas and New Year’s period. Nurses will have either Christmas or New Year’s period off. The Christmas period will include December 24, 25 and 26. The New Year’s period will include December 31, January 1 and January 2. It is expected that nurses will be scheduled to work alternating periods of the Christmas period and New Year’s period from year to year. In the event that additional time off is available during the Christmas and New Year's periods it shall be offered by seniority to those nurses scheduled on a shift with additional staff scheduled. The Employer may at its discretion waive other scheduling/ staffing requirements during the period from December 15 to January 15. This provision will not apply to areas where nurses normally work Monday to Friday and are not normally scheduled to work on a paid holiday. The schedule covering a minimum of four (4) weeks during the Christmas and New Year's period will be posted by November 1st. Request for specific days off and the submission of part time availability for the Christmas/ New Year’s schedule period must be submitted in writing by September 15th.
