The 'Custodial Staff' clause defines the responsibilities and requirements related to personnel assigned to cleaning, maintenance, and general upkeep of a facility. Custodial Staff. The normal workweek shall consist of forty (40) hours per week, comprising of five (5) eight (8) hour days, Monday to Friday inclusive, excluding lunch break.

No eight (8) hour shift shall be spread over a period longer than nine (9) hours with a maximum of one (1) hour off for lunch. Custodial Staff. The nature of the work requires that these employees report. For this reason, a snow bank of twenty (20) hours pay is made available at the start of each year. The employees in this classification must attempt to get to work unless otherwise notified by the superintendent or his designee. Employees who do not report will be docked for the time missed. An employee who works at least four (4) hours may use hours from his snow bank to bring the total pay to eight (8) hours for the day. The employee will be docked all hours missed in excess of the twenty (20) hours provided for in the snow bank. Earned bank hours should be used when students are not in session and do not carry over to the next school year.

Custodial employees shall work eight (8) hours per day, on either the day shift or evening shift, the day shift being 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the evening shift being 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Subject to operational requirements and the school year, the evening shift may be discontinued and employees shall be scheduled for the day shift.

(a) The Head Custodian shall receive $14.00 per month over and above the basic rate, for each employee they are responsible for.
(b) Where a full-time custodian is known in advance to be absent for three (3) consecutive weeks, but not more than six (6) consecutive weeks, the shift will be offered to a part-time custodian who has previously notified the Supervisor of his/her interest in such work. This Article only applies to custodians holding one District posting.
(c) Where Custodians are employed on less than a full day basis, the assignment will approximate 2,000 sq. ft. per hour to a maximum of approximately 16,000 sq. ft. per day.
(d) Every school shall be supplied by the Board with rubber gloves, goggles, dust masks and hearing protection when required for the use of Custodial Staff. The Board shall issue for use (but to remain the property of the Board) coveralls for custodians working in shop areas and the Agriculture building.
(e) Under special circumstances, and by mutual agreement between Management and the Custodian, or Custodians concerned and the Union, a Custodian may be transferred to another Custodian position.
(f) Where special circumstances warrant, a Custodian may be assigned to Correlieu Secondary School, Quesnel Junior School, and/or École ▇▇▇▇▇ Elementary, for duties resulting from such circumstances, on Saturdays and Sundays at the regular rates of pay. Regular staff will be given first preference for extra work as a result of Continuing Education and rentals provided they accept this work at straight time rates. Student based activities requiring custodial services will be given to regular employees at prevailing pay rates.
(g) When written Custodial shift evaluations are undertaken, a copy of the written evaluation form will be provided to the Custodian evaluated. By mutual agreement, a Union representative(s) may be called on for assistance.
(h) The Custodial Shop Stewards, Negotiators, Foreperson and Management will continue with the Joint Committee to keep communications open and develop team building.
(i) Preference will be given to hiring employees to the Custodial Department who have a Building Service Worker level l and level ll Course or comparable certification. Employees in a posted position wishing to bid into the Custodial Department must first complete the Building Service Worker course. Building Service Worker course to be expanded to include Resilient Floor Care.
Custodial Staff. A. When the building or buildings are used by school or outside groups for scheduled events, a custodian must be on duty.
B. Custodians shall be paid their regular hourly rate when employed for the above purpose and shall qualify for overtime if the employee has exceeded working eight (8) hours in a day or forty (40) hours that week, as defined in this Agreement.
C. The Maintenance Supervisor shall rotate overtime among custodians. An overtime roster shall be posted in the maintenance area, which shall list the names of all custodians desiring to work overtime. Any custodian interested in overtime must submit a letter of interest to the Maintenance Supervisor. A custodian who declines to work overtime for any reason, other than for absence, shall be rotated to the bottom of the list and will not be eligible for another event qualifying for overtime until their name reaches the top of the rotation. If an event is cancelled, the rotation list shall stay in effect. Any custodian interested in overtime must submit a letter of interest to the Maintenance Supervisor by September 1st of each year.
D. A lunch break not to exceed one half (1/2) hour shall be paid to Custodians by the sponsoring group, when the number of hours worked exceeds five (5) hours.
E. The number of overtime hours paid to Custodians will be shown on his/her paycheck.
F. An annual clothing allowance of $175.00 will be paid to employees for the purpose of purchasing clothing (pants, shirts, and shoes) for work. Reimbursement will be conditioned upon proof of purchase (i.e., receipt) that must be submitted to the Supervisor within the current school year you are submitting (ie: July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022).
G. If the daylight custodian's absence is for five (5) days or more, custodians in line of seniority from the building working the afternoon shift shall be offered to move to the daylight position. If there is no custodian is interested to fill the position, a substitute will fill the position.
H. In the event a substitute is not available for an absent custodian, the available work will be offered to regular custodians according to the overtime rotation list. Regular custodians will be offered the full number of contracted hours of the available position. If a regular custodian is required to do work in the area of an absent custodian during their regular work shift, they will receive an additional bonus (1) hour at their regular rate of pay, not to be included in the calculation of overt...
Custodial Staff. In the event school buildings operated by the district are closed or delayed for opening due to inclement weather or any Act of God, Intermediate School District custodial staff shall report to work as scheduled. Employees who are delayed due to road conditions or bad weather will be expected to make up the time the same day or sometime during the same week unless they elect to take the time as unpaid. This should be arranged with and approved by the employee's immediate supervisor.
Custodial Staff. Each year, two (2) members of the custodial staff will be permitted to attend the New Jersey Education Association Convention (one day maximum). Selection will be made on a first come basis with seniority being a consideration. All staff members will be provided an equal opportunity to attend.

If a job is abolished by the district, any affected employee required to change jobs within the bargaining unit may not lose more than $1.00 per hour regardless of the position they end up working in. Seniority also prevails in “bumping positions” in the case of layoffs, school closings or job eliminations. The employee affected can bump anyone lower than themselves in seniority but only for the reasons stated above. If a person bumps a person in a higher classification, that person will have to pass a test administered by the Facilities Director.
